She carefully lifted and tinted being careful with what I have and I am thrilled with the results. The person who made the appointment for me was great and sent me a picture of the outside noting there had been some confusion with a place nearby. At that point I had resigned to the idea of having my card charged the no-show fee of half the price of the service I scheduled myself for ($100) and just having to eat it because it was my stupid fault when my phone rang and it was the lady who was waiting for me to show up. I apologized and told her what derpy thing I'd done getting on the wrong bus and that my job as a professional pet stylist ALSO relies on people showing up when they're supposed to and how it really bones up our day when they don't so I'm not upset about the fee in any way whatsoever. She was so nice too. I could tell this had happened with other clients of hers in the past because of how she tried to nicely explain why they had to charge the no-show fee, and had a sense of "please don't yell at me" in her voice. I know EXACTLY what that is like having to have that exact convo with someone using that exact voice in my own business. So I assured her I was not upset, admitted again that I knew it was all my own fault and that I'd re-book on the website before thanking her and hanging up. As I got BACK on the bus (which to my surprise came very quickly believe it or not) my phone rang AGAIN from the salon!! It was the same lady and she actually said if I could get there within a half hour she could still juuuuussst fit me in still!! F YEAH!! I told her that I was at the mercy of the CTA but that since the bus back toward western had come quickly I actually might be able to do that! She was so nice and just reminded me it couldn't be but a minute later since she had other clients after me, and I said I'd do my best. WELL... once I got to western and stepped up to the bus stop there I SAW THE BUS ACTUALLY COMING MY WAY!! I was delighted at first, then after getting on I realized it was an express bus that wouldn't be stopping at Augusta OR Iowa so I started to panic a bit as it was less than 5 mins before I had to be there!! When the bus stopped at Chicago though I RAN LIKE I WAS BEING CHASED BY THE CHICAGO MOTHMAN HIMSELF and got there JUST as the clock "struck midnight" so to say. And the nice woman was right there waiting for me too. She showed me to my seat where she'd already set up and I started borderline violently ripping my coat and other winter gear off while thanking and explaining to her that I totally understand because my job works the same way and that I knew she'd need to begin ASAP in order to keep her schedule on time. She really was awesome (and I friggin WISH I could remember her name because she needs an award immediately) and said I could take my time and all that. But like I've said I know how it works and knew that was her just doing her job and being polite. She asked me what Style/length/shape I wanted to which I replied "STRIPPER BIG" and she laughed in a way that acknowledged that she understood the assignment precisely. So I hopped in the chair and before I knew it she was DONE! And not RUSHED done either.... She took her time, made sure I didn't feel a thing, and KILLED IT!! To top it off she gave me a little box with some eyelash brushes to keep them all aligned, and in my line of work: to get the dog hair out of them at the end of the day, AND instructions on what face stuff to use/not use to lengthen their longevity. SUCH a DELIGHTFUL human... I'm telling you!! A friggin PLUS PLUS! If I figure out her name (which I'll have to when I see her for my fill-in soon) I'll come back to update this review. Until then THANK YOU FOR COMING TO MY TED TALK AND PLZ GO TO THIS PLACE WHEN YOU NEED FANCY LADY LASHES!!

I found Briette through a friend of a friend. I was doing a semi-nude photo shoot for my 30th birthday, a gift to myself. This situation could be awkward for many people, but Briette handled it with ease. She was extremely professional, and took care to stay with me through the shoot so there was another woman. She paid attention to details so I wouldn't be unhappy with the photos after the shoot. My make-up looked great and natural. It really matched the style I was going for. I would recommend her to anybody. read more

My husband could not stop telling me how great I looked! I saw him grab a nice stack of Briette's business cards, and whisper to me, "She's good". I went for a photo shoot to get professional head shots, and luckily, Briette was my hair and make-up artist. She made me feel so comfortable with the entire experience. Thanks to Briette's work I looked like me, but the better, enhanced me. I wish I would have known about her before I got married. read more

We did a hair and makeup test run a few months before the wedding. After the appointment Nika sent me a detailed summary of the look they created and products used. They were also very responsive and proactive about confirming the day of schedule and services. Kristina is so great at creating a look that is polished, elegant and fresh. She can turn up the volume/glam it up as well without it looking too heavy. I also liked that she uses individual lash extensions rather than a strip. It creates a much more natural look. Xochitl is so talented as well. I arrived to my trial run appointment with a few pictures but not a clear idea of what I was looking for. After looking at the photos for a less than a minute she pulled together this Old Hollywood Glamour do with the most gorgeous waves. Probably one of the best investments you can make for your day. My sister died suddenly and unexpectedly in March. A few days after her death, her fiancé and I began notifying wedding vendors. I reached out to NVBA over three months before the wedding date. I received a response expressing their sympathies, and the email ended with "you can be sure that we are set". It was me who had to bring up that my sister had paid NVBA in full ($1700). When I asked about a refund, I was told 50% could be refunded. Even when my husband spoke with Nika herself, she would not budge on the 50%, essentially stating that all of the contractors had already been paid, even though zero services were provided. Every other vendor for the wedding, from the venue to the DJ to the photographer, immediately offered a 100% refund. I notified NVBA over 3 months prior to the date, and we had even suggested a refund down the road after summer season, which they refused. Somehow "scheduling" enables them $850, even when the bride dies before the wedding day. I cannot relay how heartbreaking it is that my sister never will get her wedding day. What is so aggravating on top of that is to see how heartless a response NVBA had to the situation. NVBA is making money by doing nothing - and if they rebook (for June 19) they are double-dipping. Shame on you, NVBA. I honestly don't know how you sleep at night. Shout out to all of the other vendors (Salvatore's, Molly's Cupcakes, Artistrie Co.) for having compassion and doing the right thing.

Joanna B Artistry

Our wedding was almost 1 month ago, and I've been trying for weeks to find the appropriate words…read morethat convey the gratitude I have for Joanna (Joanna B. Artistry). Joanna is one of a kind, extremely personable and a true professional in the industry. Our original wedding date was set for 8/15/20 and getting engaged less than a year before, I was in a rush to lock in my team of vendors. I reached out to a friend who sent me multiple MUA suggestions, one being Joanna, as my friend was a bridesmaid in a recent wedding of hers. Joanna was available for my date and after chatting on the phone I quickly locked her in for myself plus 8 bridesmaids, my mom and future mother in law. We did my initial makeup trial in December 2020 and I was the bride that brought a few inspiration photos but didn't really give much direction to the look I was going for. Joanna was patient, confident and so skilled that she knew what look would complement my features/skin tone and went to work. She delivered A+ bridal glam while still having me look like my natural self, false lashes and all. She even updated my look right then after the trial by adding a red lip for my engagement shoot that afternoon, which was such a sweet and unexpected gesture. Fast forward to spring 2020, pandemic in full swing and a new wedding date of 6/26/21. Joanna stuck with me through all the many changes, didn't take advantage of the situation by adding contract addendum fees and even offered a Black Friday deal for rehearsal dinner glam for her brides. She stayed in touch, checked in and made me feel confident and excited for our new wedding date. Joanna also stayed on top of beauty and makeup trends while events were all cancelled or postponed during the spring. Her Instagram is my favorite as she shares honest opinions/reviews about both skin and makeup products. I also booked another make up session for round 2 engagement photos with Joanna that October and it's true talent when you can create multiple looks on the same person for different occasions. On the wedding day, Joanna brought an assistant with her (as planned) for our wedding day as we had 11 people total and her assistant was top of the line talent as well. My whole bridal party felt beautiful and our makeup lasted the entire night without even needing to touch up (although Joanna provides her brides with a generous touch up kit, just in case). It's also important to note that it was raining sideways and extremely humid, but looking at the bridal party, you'd never know judging by our long lasting glam. I highly recommend getting your makeup done for the rehearsal as well as I wish there was a recording of my reaction when Joanna showed me the "finished product" in the mirror. I was SO excited and after already having 2 trials, having one the day before the wedding made me confident that I would feel like my best self on the biggest day of my life and let me tell you, I did. I have never felt so beautiful in my entire life. I have also never seen my mom look so gorgeous and it made me happy that she was so happy! I call Joanna a wizard because she's casually chatting with you, so calm, focused and voila! hands you the mirror and it's truly a natural work of art. I'm already trying to think of reasons why I need my makeup professionally done to utilize Joanna again.
