With most businesses, high frequency of customers and prominent location usually lend to success and high quality. Unfortunately, with op-shops this can be a fatal draw back. Strolling along the aisles in this community store, you can't help but feel some other young trendster got there before and picked up all the cool shirts, jeans and hats. They left you with daggy, out of size dress pants and jackets missing buttons and smelling kind of like death. It's a shame. I can't speak for the women's stuff, but I assume it would be the same or worse for them. Regardless this is a good store to find simple second hand clothing. Daggy shirts to paint in, or throw away pants and jackets for a costume party. There's also a lot of kids stuff kicking around, if you want some crazy toys or old VHS and story books for the young 'uns. The women that work their are lovely too, and offer some of the lowest prices I've seen in my op-shopping experience.

Maybe it's a girl thing, but I find myself drawn to clothing. In particular the vintage kind. heeeellllloooooo swwwooppp! I was so excited to find swop! Love that I can swap my old for new. Woo hoo!! Just set off Hindley Street, you will find the store down some stairs. Lucky I saw the sign. This set up is a good size, split into two rooms. What is great about this store (wait for it boys...) is that you will find an almost equal amount of mens and womens clothing here. I was actually pretty surprised on the mens clothing selection. So awesome! As for pricing, not too bad actually. These are good quality brands. They do not accept any "fast fashion". So that means, no cotton on, valley girl or supre. Phew! This totally reflects on what you will find here. Winning! The staff here are really lovely as well. Not pushy or intrusive. They welcome you and are happy to answer questions. I love feeling comfortable to browse and not feel pressured into buying. Looking forward to bring my first batch of clothing here to see what it is like to swop or sell. YAYYYYYYY!!!

Floor to ceiling is covered in everything from new made to look old and genuine vintage articles. Most importantly these guys completely under price everything in store. I am amazed at the quality of furniture and homewares here and the bargains that can be found. It has also some of the best range of unique female items of clothing from skirts to dresses and shirts, nothing would be over $40. Every week or so the shop front window changes and the inside of the store is constantly changing too based on the product available. Sometimes I wish some of the items in store were for sale like this awesome fluoro pink coin operated children's elephant ride they have in store, but beggars can't be choosers! These guys don't mind a bit of negotiating on price too.

A new addition to the Prospect area, Littlest Vintage is a browse-able haven of retro delights…read more I recently discovered the shop on a wander down Prospect Road, and was immediately attracted to the visual display of retro sideboards, 70's sofas and 60's oil paintings. I'm a sucker for genuine vintage and this place had it in LOADS. When I stepped inside I wasn't disappointed: despite the name the space is pretty spacious, and full of fashion finds, home wares and artworks of the 1960's - 80's era. It has a welcoming, market stall kind of feel to it - you feel as if you could rummage and uncover a genuine gem in here. All of which invites long, lazy browsing. I uncovered a pair of patent leather docs which I would've SNATCHED up for $65 (alas they were one size too small, curse you feet!). I was also especially delighted by the analogue amazingness on display: old SLR and instant cameras, working typewriters. I'm a sucker for 'em. The store was established by the good folks over at Renew Adelaide, who find spaces for creative, community minded businesses around Adelaide, and once again I say bravo *fist bump*. Their Facebook page is also flashed up on the front window, which is worth a look too: www.facebook.com/littlestVINTAGEshop

Sally's Seconds is attached to the Salvation Army next door (get it... "Sally's"?) and is jam-packed with all manner of clothing, toys and bric a brac. Because it's kind of tucked away and unassuming looking, Sally's can often be overlooked by bargain hunters and thrift lovers, but don't make the same mistake! I've found some amazing (and super cheap) stuff in here. On my last visit I scored a brand new kookai top for $5, an amazing retro set of '70s tumblers for $8, a lovely tin with geometric designs for $2 and I was tempted to take home "The Bill" board game for $2 but somehow resisted. Being in Norwood, the stock is generally of high quality and good brands, and I find it's rotated quite quickly as well, so you can come in for a weekly browse and find something new. The lovely ladies behind the counter are always a pleasure too!

Oh dang, what a shame. This should be so much bigger than what it is…read more I was actually quite surprised with this store. Right in the middle of Norwood you would think that there would be a bunch of stock and some really good finds. I would say that Norwood is more of the upper-middle class area, so generally thrift stores in these areas have great gear to get your hands on. But, this one is just lacking in a lot of areas. This thrift store is small and separated into three rooms. I could see a large storage area at the back, maybe this is a staff area? Shame they do not use the space to expand the store. There was minimal clothing, books, crockery, etc... The staff also did not welcome me in the store like they do in the other Salvos stores. Such a let down and something that I like about their stores. Good customer services and generally helpful in most of them. Oh well... maybe I caught the staff on a bad day. But, I probably will not be back.

Hills Discount is quite an anonymous little shop in Stirling despite the fact it's the only cheap…read moreshop in this region. I don't know the history of it as it's either new and not listed just yet or they prefer to stay out of print. Whatever the case it's as I mentioned the only cheap shop around and there is a reasonable mix of stuff you'd expect to find. I asked the Chinese / Vietnamese man behind the counter if they stocked any solar powered lanterns and they didn't, but there are quite a few others which are battery operated or the plain simple decorative ones hanging about. A few kitchen utensils on the side wall and lots of things everywhere I looked, even the man was almost camoflaged. Anyway, it's good it does exist and just across the way from Matilda Books.

If you're young, he may be a little cold towards you and follow you 'discreetly' around the store pretending to rearrange things. This is because so many young Stirling kids used to come here and steal his wares and now he's slightly, justifiably paranoid. I came here just the other day because I needed fake money for a dress up party, the party store across the road didn't have it but Hills Discount didn't disappoint. Basically you will find everything a $2 shop might stock, only some of it has a weird asian twist like the little fighting wooden toys.
