I was on the phone with a family member and the bus driver told me that I had to get off the phone because he didn't want other passengers hearing me. I wasn't being loud and I wasn't being disrespectful, I was just trying to tell the bus driver that he couldn't kick me off the bus for something I didn't do. Two passengers started to cuss me out and threaten me. I asked the bus driver if they were also going to get kicked off for being hostile, but he ignored me. The passenger who threatened me proceeded to assault me and the bus driver, nor any of the passengers, did anything about it. When I received a response from customer service, they also rejected my complaint and basically told me it was all my fault. If your bus driver is an older man, with bright blue eyes and a baseball cap, beware and be careful. - Gabriel

The Short Version: Small train station with the tiniest…read morelounge I have ever seen in my life, lol. The Long Version: So while the train station is open everyday, there are only 3 departures and 3 arrivals a week. The only train inbound or outbound at this station is The Ocean which goes to and from Montreal (with several stops along the way). There is economy class where you sit in chairs and there's Sleeper Class where you get a cabin (with your own bathroom and shower). The entire Halifax to Montreal trip is 23 hours. If you do the entire trip, with Sleeper Class you get 3 meals included which are served in the dining cart. There's a canteen for Economy class passengers to buy snacks. The main waiting area is large, but the lounge for Sleeper Class customers is the tiniest lounge I have ever seen in my life. There are only 11 seats (!) So people who got there closer to departure had to sit in the main waiting area. The lounge has a Van Houtte coffee machine, teas, soft drinks and juice, which are complimentary for Sleeper Class travelers. I could only take one picture of the lounge because the rest was full of people, but it was very dated looking and even had those old school water radiators. I don't know if they are functional and the room is heated by the radiators or if they are vestigial from times past and the place actually has central heating. I guess it looks homey and has its own charm. It is very different from the Business Class lounges in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa, which are much more modern, but I suppose one could argue are more corporate-looking and less cozy. The main hall is large and spacious and has the same look and feel as other VIA Rail stations. There is a Maritime Bus ticket wicket in the station and a car rental office. There are no food vendors. It's attached to a hotel (the Westin Nova Scotian), which does have a restaurant, but it's quite pricey. There is a supermarket within walking distance (The Atlantic Superstore) and a few restaurants within walking distance. We travelled Halifax to Montreal recently and while our cabin was small, it had the amenities we needed and was as comfortable as can be expected. The seats in your cabin convert to bunk beds for sleeping. It's snug but the small space is thoughtful designed with a tiny foldable night table and reading light. Staff were pleasant and meals were satisfactory. They sounded and looked better than they tasted. Strangely, I found the food on The Ocean not as tasty as the food served in VIA1/Business Class along the Windsor to Quebec City corridor. Although the presentation was better and of course eating in a dedicated dining cart has its charm, over eating at your seat. There's a dining cart on the train where meals are served. They have 2 seatings for lunch (12pm and 1:30pm), and 3 seatings for dinner (5pm, 6:30pm and 8pm), you chose which seating time you want. Breakfast is open and you go anytime 6am-9am. Be advised that if you are traveling as a couple you may be seated with strangers at a table for four, if all the tables for two are occupied. The have activities like wine tasting, railway trivia, Maritime trivia and some live music entertainment. The Ocean is fun to take. We've done the trip several times. The Halifax train station itself is ok. I suppose since it has so few departures and arrivals it's not surprising that it has less there than stations with more traffic. I was going to give it 3 stars, but considering the low traffic to and from this station compared to the bigger cities, I guess I need to compare it to train stations in small towns, so I settled on 4 stars given the situation. My friend a I took a much anticipated overnight trip from Montreal to Halifax last week and found…read moreit to be very disappointing. Although most of the staff were helpful and pleasant the train is very outdated ( not been updated since the 70's.) Also the WIFI was basically non existent. The food they served was mediocre at best and my friend actually developed a stomach ache and diarrhea after eating his dinner of some sort of beef dish.

The 42 serving Kempt Rd going downtown is always 10-20 minutes late. On rare days it comes early or…read moreeven later. It's supposed to show at 5:07. Often, an Out of Service bus goes by before the 42 does. Yesterday while my coworker and I were waiting miserably in the second dumping of the first big snow storm the Out of Service bus arrived at 5:11, but this time the driver stopped. He let us on and said "Who knows when your bus is going to show" and he wouldn't let us pay because "I'm off!" I got home earlier than normal even in a snow storm. Honestly, the transit system in Halifax is disorganized and sometimes woefully inconvenient, but the drivers are honest, caring, hardworking people that deserve so much more respect than they deserve.

Oddly enough, the Maritime Bus station in Truro seems much bigger than the one in downtown…read moreHalifax. It has a convenient location right off the highway as well. The place looks very dated, and it doesn't look like anyone's paid much attention to its upkeep lately. The thing I hate the most is when the bus pulls up to the Truro station, and they let all the people lining up just smoke up a storm right by the entrance to the bus and to the station. When the bus door opens, the cabin fills up with cigarette smoke as the bus' intake vents suck up all the fumes. If you're allergic to smoke or not used to cigarette fumes, it can be quite an eye watering experience. What I like better about this station than the one in downtown Halifax, is that there is more seating and room inside the building so you don't have to freeze to death on the curb while waiting for the bus to pick you up.

But his tone was so rude he might as well have said "How stupid are you that you can even imagine I'd have a taxi to send you" I don't know what the rest of Yellow Cab's service is like but I give them a top score for nastiness.

Two out of the last 4 times I've called for a cab they didn't even show up!! The driver kept getting randon calls from someone, he kept asking us for our address even though he had it plugged into his map. He made a wrong turn and accused us of giving him wrong instructions, he asked for the house number and when we repeated it clearly three times, he told us to just describe the house features. Terrible experience. if I can avoid that driver, I would continue to gladly use Casino taxi.
