After going to…read moreseveral different garages and being told a variety of things like "you may as well go on eBay and buy a new gearbox for cheap" and "I'll take the gearbox out and send it on to a specialist gearbox place," we were eventually sent to Tameside Transmissions as apparently they know all there is to know about gearboxes. I brought the car here and immediately got taken on a short test drive with one of the mechanics so he could listen to what was up with car. He diagnosed the problem really quick and quoted us a price of £400 plus VAT, which is a good £200 cheaper than we'd been quoted by other places. I took the car in the next week and everything was sorted in three days (this was a big job). I picked the car up and since then it's been working just great. All I can say about Tameside Transmissions is that they clearly know what they're doing and are excellent at fixing gearboxes.
The fact that I have to leave 1 star is an understatement…read more...... I phoned Tameside Transmissions for a procedure which I didn't have time to undertake and wasn't 100% sure on what steps to take. Believe me, for a company that specialises in transmissions, my problem would have been relatively simple. I could quite easily find out how to solve the problem myself but thought I would pass the work onto a specialist company, especially in these difficult times. Instead of `yes sir we would be obliged to do the work for you at this cost`, I got `anyone can do that, it's simple, we are busy for the next 10 days so won't be able to do it`. How did the person on the end of the phone know I needed it doing immediately? Asked why I wanted the problem solving, I explained it was an intermediary step to determining a larger problem. Funny how he said he could take on the larger job but not the one I needed doing prior to this. I'm sure Tameside Transmissions offer good quality workmanship but I certainly won't be bothering with them again, simply due to the arrogance of the person on the end of the phone. If I was female, would he have said the same thing? If I was disabled would he have said the same thing? Remember Tameside Transmission, "Assumption is the mother of all *k ups!"

I didn't have overly high expectations really, as my previous experience with manufacturer dealerships hasn't been overly brilliant - though, admittedly, that was with a different manufacturer (Ford) and a different area. In all honesty, though, RRG were great. They were able to not only book my car in at relatively short notice, as I only called up a couple of days ago, but being able to book it for a Saturday was brilliant. The icing on top came in the fact that they were willing to price match a quote from another dealership for the same work, and offer me a deal on future work to boot. The staff were friendly, and more than happy to answer my daft questions about servicing plans and how they compared to paying outright at the time. There's complimentary drinks available - I opted for a bottle of water - and some little snack things on the tables, like biscuits and sweets. In terms of the actual service, for the car that is, that's a pretty standard routine dictated by the manufacturer but the paperwork I received back was clear and detailed with everything which had been checked and to what standard. The staff also weren't pushy. They tried to upsell me some stuff, as you'd expect any dealer to do when they've got you, but it was very much along the line of "Here's the information, take it home and have a read and if you're interested, let us know". Overall, I'm very happy with the service I received from RRG and would happily recommend them to other Mazda owners. The site also houses a Suzuki dealer, and for those of you with more money a Lexus showroom too.

We purchased a Jeep from VIP cars, impressed by the website and initial contact with the company and we fell in love with the car. Richard seemed genuine enough. The engine light was on as we drove away, he plugged it into a computer and he assured us it was just the valves. We took it back to be fixed but the next day the light came back on. We got a second opinion from a local garage who said our turbo was on its last legs in OverBoost mode, rather annoyed that we had been sold a car with a known fault by a seemingly reputable garage, we contacted Richard again, he said it would be a couple of weeks till he would be able to look at the car, but I explained we couldn't risk driving it around as it was literally on the verge of blowing. He said to call the AA if we broke down. Without a choice, we drove the Jeep 70 miles back to Richard, we live in North Yorkshire. We were given a Y reg Ford focus with ripped seats, no radio, no blower (in the height of summer) broken windows and only 1 door that would open with a key. We have 2 toddlers and I was 7 months pregnant. A month later after chasing him weekly, Richard said he had reconditioned the turbo "out of his own pocket", but sure enough the next day the light came on again. After a second opinion again, the garage informed us that the engine cover had not been removed and the turbo was in the exact same OverBoost condition. I threatened to take it back and recover my money under the Sales of Goods Act which Richard refused to do and said it doesn't apply to motor vehicles. I wanted him to pay for the new turbo fitting, he refused but after numerous calls he said he wouldn't pay for the labour and would only pay for a second hand Turbo. The total bill was £1100. They incorrectly completed the forms for the DVLA and sat on them for 4 months! In which time he sold my car with my personalised plate on, which I have now lost! When the forms eventually came through we found out that our MOT ran out in July 2014, not in March 2015 as advertised when we purchased the vehicle. Fuming, my husband called Richard who's response was "you sort it, that car has already cost me enough money!" The MOT bill was £680 so we decided to contact the small claims court. Last week we received £1,226 in compensation from the small claims court (not without a visit from the bailiffs) and Richard received a CCJ. We no longer have the Jeep after the Cam Shaft failed just 2 months after the turbo! We decided we wouldn't spend another penny on it and opted for a shiney new Kia Sportage :)
