Ruby at Bridal Couture saved my sister's wedding. And no, that's not an overstatement. When my sister began looking for her wedding dress, we knew it would be a difficult search. Anytime we went into a bridal salon, as soon as she said she didn't want strapless the saleswoman would sigh and bring out the 3 or 4 non-strapless dresses they had. It was really frustrating. So when my sister heard about Ruby and went to visit her, she was so excited to learn she could have the dress of her dreams. The dresses that Ruby had available in her shop were beautiful and helpful so my sister could point out what she did and didn't like. Ruby kept my sister informed all along the way and would fit her in for additional fittings. My sister ended up with the (non-strapless!) dress of her dreams: it fit perfectly and suited her personality. After all, it was made for her! My mom's search for a dress was even more difficult. When she finally found one she liked, she was so upset to see that it had been ordered in the wrong size (she needed a petite). She brought the dress in to Ruby and she was able to work her magic and make it look perfect. The dress was very detailed with lots of ruching and Ruby managed to pull it all together in very little time. She also did some small alterations on my maid of honor dress and created a sash for me to wear. All of her work was beautiful and she couldn't have been nicer. I recently went to Ruby for services on my dress for my November wedding. I was not pleased with the overall final product I was given. When I went to pick up my dress and try on for a final fitting I noticed there was some bunching on the dress. When I pointed this out to Ruby her response to me was: "I would just have to pull my dress down". To me that is unacceptable when I am coming to you to fit a dress to my body. She went on to explain that because the way my dress was constructed it was impossible to fix. When I left her shop I immediately called around to other alterations shops to see if someone could fix what Ruby couldn't. I found a wonderful shop that was able to fix my dress 2 weeks out from my wedding day. It's unfortunate because I decided to trust Ruby with my gown due to her 5 star reviews and her also being a referral. In return, I had to pay additional money to have someone fix my dress last minute. Not the experience, anyone should be subjected to. For a bride to voice concerns over their dress being ill-fitted and to be dismissed is unacceptable. Ruby is sweet, sensible and accommodating. My mom and I walked into the store not knowing what to expect. We got soft music, a variety of dresses and a helpful owner who stood back and let us make our own decisions but stepped in when we needed help. The only drawback is that all of her dresses are size 10 and not everyone is a size 10. Of course you order your dress in your own size, but if you can't zip all of them up then how will you know if they're worth it? We were surprised by the (relative to the bridal industry as a whole) low prices, many dresses were around $700. read more

I spent $1300 to have my mother in law's vintage dress altered at Ruby's. It was in amazing condition (preserved 3 times), but was a high neck, long sleeve, full sleeve Priscilla of Boston dress that was 38 years old. It needed to be restyled. Under no circumstances would I advise you take to anything this valuable to Ruby. I was under the impression she considered herself a designer, but the "couture" in her name is quite misleading. She never once took on the position of a designer. She never sketched her vision for my dress. She never suggested alternatives to my more challenging ideas. She only had blunt "no's" or hesitant "okays" to the alterations I suggested. The only time she was cheerful and agreeable was the first fitting, before she had my money. I paid her $1000 to "restyle" my dress. She said I would leave happy. I was under the impression I would and that $1000 would definitely cover the alterations I wanted. Wrong again. Ruby charged me an additional $300 to restyle the skirt of the dress. At that point, I wanted nothing more than to leave her establishment with dress in hand and go somewhere, anywhere, that might value me as a customer...especially when I had spent the equivalent of 2 of dresses that she carries in her store. Nothing you see on the racks was designed by Ruby, by the way. Every fitting after the initial one was cold and unpleasant. Even my mom, mother in law, and maid of honor remarked that the she was distant and snobbish. The receptionist on the weekends is quite friendly. I'm so disappointed that what I thought would be my favorite and most enjoyable part of the wedding planning, was the most frustrating and dissatisfying. I'm taking my dress to the neighborhood seamstress to remove the Madonna cups Ruby put in (after I explicitly stated my dislike for their pointed look), remove the tacky speghetti straps, and sew in the bustier. I can't wait to be finished and finally happy with my dress after my experience with Ruby. I wouldn't spend another penny in her store, but the choice is yours. If she's your neighborhood seamstress and you just need pants hemmed, go for it. If you need something more extensive done, don't be fooled, shop around. read more

I recommend Bridal Couture by Ruby V to all of my friends in the Atlanta area for their bridesmaid dress alteration needs. I've used Ruby several times and have never been disappointed. I would recommend calling to make an appointment well before you think you need to because her hours are limited and she does get booked up (especially if you work a 8-5 job like me and need the latest appointment time). I have never felt like Ruby recommends unneeded alterations just to charge a bit more. Her prices are extremely fair when compared to other alteration shops and I have never been charged more than originally quoted. I did have one minor problem with my bridesmaid dress that I got altered for my brother's wedding. I only got the dress hemmed and I was in a hurry when I picked the dress up so I did not try it on. This was completely my mistake and I will be sure to not do this again. A few days later when I tried it on, the dress was still too long. At this point it was only a few days before my brother's wedding and I began to have a minor freak out. I called Ruby right away and she told me to come over anytime and she would look at it. I was there within 30 minutes and Ruby saw me as soon as the bride she was currently with was done. She fixed the dress within two hours and did not charge anything extra. I went to Ruby with my daughter's bridesmaid dress that was too tight. The store we bought it in sent us to Ruby to see if it could be let out a half inch to an inch. She told us no that we needed to order another dress. She said without even looking at it there was no extra material for her to let it out. I ask her if we were to order extra fabric from the manufacturer would that help. She said absolutely no that we just need to order another dress. I called the shop we purchased it from, and they told us to come down for them to re-measure my daughter and see the dress again. They told me there is plenty of material and they do not know why she told us that. They sent us to another alteration shop who said there is extra material, and they would have no problem letting it out. I was going to have Ruby do the alterations on my daughter's wedding dress but not after this. How good could you be if you do know you have room to let out a dress. read more

How can anyone in good conscience spend $10,000 on something that will wilt away in a dry cleaner's storage room? So, for all of you ladies who are shocked that even pricey $2,000 dresses have exposed zippers or just a lack of refinement, and know that $10,000 dresses are out of line... Go to Ruby and start from scratch. Ruby and I were able to hand-pick gorgeous raw silk and Alencon lace for my dress, and Ruby made everything exactly the way I wanted it - no generic styles, no cheap fabric, no over-pricing just because it's a wedding dress (yes, the ladies at Saks told me it would cost $800 to add cap sleeves to one dress - that's about 8" of fabric...what a joke). Ruby is a true, old-school dressmaker. That means you won't get the sample size 10 dress that either has to be let out or taken in to fit you. From the beginning, your dress will fit you exactly (and of course, can be taken in as you keep that workout routine going up to the big day). I could not have been happier with the quality of my dress, and with Ruby's endless patience and willingness to make everything perfect. Think twice about spending all that extra money just to say you have a Vera Wang gown... Ruby can match designer quality, hands down, for a lot less money. I wish I could give Ruby 10 stars!! I ordered my custom gown from a different designer and when it finally arrived it was COMPLETELY and DRAMATICALLY wrong. It was MULTIPLE sizes too big and we were worried we would have to send it back for a new gown because the number of alterations required to fix the designers mistakes. The bodice was gaping in multiple areas and they had sewn on the wrong skirt. We brought the gown to Ruby and by the very next fitting, she had the gown tailored perfectly to my body, exactly as it should have been when it arrived!!! She is incredible and did an fantastic job transforming a poorly fitting dress into my dream gown. In addition, she took my mothers veil and customized it to match my dress. I would recommend anyone to Ruby! I had a very complicated dress with 1.5 inch diagonal tiers covering the entire dress - she had to alter each layer. Ruby altered the dress PERFECTLY. It was beautiful. She provided her opinion as I wanted to have my train "cut off" and made a great suggestion - something I wouldn't have known, but she knew due to her expertise. Sadly, many of the bridal salons I visited while on the quest for a perfect dress in Atlanta either begrudgingly tried to accommodate my request or simply told me that I should look elsewhere. More important facts: I never felt rushed while trying on dresses, I didn't have to fight for space or attention with crazy brides, Ruby never tried to upsell me on a dress I couldn't afford, and in general she runs a shop that really makes brides feel that they're a part of her family. I also found *the dress* at Ruby's, had several fittings done on site and am proud to share with Yelpers that in the end the dress fit beautifully and Ruby stuck to the pricing and timeline she originally proposed. She is a truly skilled seamstress and runs a good business. She even made a veil to match my dress and didn't charge a fortune for it either. I couldn't recommend her salon more highly. Ruby is spectacular! She made my wedding dress that I designed and it looked absolutely gorgeous. I couldn't find one I liked in a store -- it seemed like they were all strapless, had too much or too little lace, too much of a ballgown skirt, etc. I wanted a mermaid dress, lace only at the top and on the straps, no train, sheer fabric at the top, open upper keyhole back, and very fitted in the waist and hips. So I sketched one on a piece of paper (I am no artist or a designer by the way), gave it to her, and she quoted me a great price that was more affordable than many of the gowns I tried on, and she made me the perfect dress in a few months. She lets you pick out the fabric too of course and gives suggestions. I had several fittings and at the end, I had my dream dress!!!
