We had such a fun time finding my sisters bridesmaids dresses here, and they were AWESOME. The dresses were so beautiful and matched the fall elegant wedding. Thank you to the girls here, they made this process quick and easy. I was planning this wedding in a 5 month time frame, and they made getting the dresses quickly a breeze. One thing that erked me the wrong way was the suggestion of dress sizes. We were suggested to order larger sizes in two of the dresses to maintain the length of the dress. When we received the dresses, the one we ordered in the smaller size was exactly the same length as the larger dresses. We are just speculating here, but they may have been suggested or order a larger size to get the alterations. Otherwise great store and beautiful items! read more

Do NOT go there!!!! My daughter and several of her bridesmaids arrived, on time, for their appointment with the consultant, Nicole. This was the third bridal store that we had visited and by far they are the least helpful. After chatting with my daughter, Nicole kept bringing her dresses that were not even close to what she wanted. Of course, no one else is allowed to look through the dresses if by chance we might find "the one". After numerous dress failures, Nicole finally found one that was great. It was the last one that she was going to try on because we were very frustrated. We agreed to the dress and put down the 50% down payment. We were told that it would be about 5 months before the dress would be delivered. No problem - 10 months before the wedding. Five months go by...no dress and even worse, no follow up by the shop. A phone call to the shop - RUDE!!!!!!! We were told that the dresses take 7- 8 months....more waiting...no phone calls. Another call to the shop...RUDE again!!! Now it is a 10 month wait..seriously????? 2X the wait the customer should have been given a phone call. Very poor customer service. What is supposed to be a wonderful, memorable experience has turned out to be a nightmare. In a nutshell: 1. Was not made to feel welcomed - neither was the wedding party and mothers 2. Nicole was not pleasant to work with - did not listen, kept bringing dresses that were not suitable. 3. Mislead us with a delivery date of 5 months - took our money 4. No communication regarding delays - or were they delays?? 5. Five month lead time is now 10 months????? When people are spending thousands and thousands of dollars, customer service should be a priority! read more

So I am the maid of honor, not the bride, but from the experience we had here I would highly recommend finding a dress here and then getting it altered elsewhere. They have a great selection of dresses, you need an appointment. The service is just OK, and from other experiences in boutique shops I'm afraid to say this was the worst. Usually you are pampered and treated with interest and care (isn't this one of the reasons of not using a huge bridal store?) but here I would say we were treated more like a number than a customer. Our alteration service was subpar at best and management didn't quite seem to care. We came in for multiple appointments feeling nothing had been done since the last one, (and they admitted that was the case) so why did we even come in? Then a week before the wedding when we were promised certain things would be done, we show up and nothing was ready or done! They make us come in AGAIN and the things that should have been done are now done, but it needs to be pressed. We come in for the final fitting and the bustle is still up and there are creases in the front, but are assured it was pressed. Really? On top of EVERYTHING the seamstress loudly pointed out during a fitting that weight had been gained and we would need to take the dress out and went on to ask "Just how much weight had she gained" ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Obviously we are aware but it is not to you to point this out or make her feel bad for it. We left half of the fittings crying and the bride is a VERY reasonable bride, and hasn't been emotional at any other point of the wedding planning. When Hurricane Sandy hit NJ, I thought I had for sure lost my bridesmaid's dress for my best friends wedding on 11/16. It was at the seamstress whose business was flooded. When I randomly called BB (I looked up the shops that sold Jim Hjelm and picked a random shop in Pittsburgh because I have always heard that Pittsburgh has kind people), they could not have been more kind and more eager to help me locate a replacement dress. Cheryl was a complete GODSEND. For her to go out of her way for a stranger, I can only imagine the service that she gives her clients. I only wish I lived closer so I could visit the salon and give her the biggest hug. If I was a bride, this would be where I would buy my dress for certain. I didn't realize I was a bridezilla until I started dress shopping... I could not have been more picky about every single tiny detail! I cannot recommend Bridal Beginning enough, but specifically because of Emily! The rest of the team was also amazing, but I swear Emily would have let me try every single dress in the store if that's what it took. She was so patient, had the best suggestions, and consoled me while I whined about every wedding detail that I was stressed about! Let me start out by saying that my experience is coming as a bridesmaid, not as a bride shopping for her wedding gown. My friend who is getting married chose the bridesmaid dress styles so I didn't have a choice in that regard, and it just so happened to be quite an expensive dress. But that's not my issue because the price is what it is. My issue is that the consultant who took my measurements seems to have taken them completely wrong. At the time of measurement, when she told me what size to order I thought it sounded big (I'm usually a size 4 but she told me to order an 8), but I figured that it was just that the dress ran larger. And she reaffirmed that the dress could always be taken in so it's better to order larger. However when the dress arrived it was WAY too big and so I definitely needed to get alterations, which now on top of the cost of the dress itself has put me way above what I was planning on spending. The woman who did my alterations said it was at least a full size too large for me. The mother of the bride said that other girls in the bridal party had the same issue with their dresses being way too large. My advice is to check with the consultant on the actual measurements they take and pay more attention to it than I did. If they seem off to you, definitely say something. read more

GO TO REWEAVING AND REKNITTING SHOP FOR ALTERATIONS AND ANYWHERE ELSE TO PURCHASE YOUR DRESS!!! I wish I could give this no stars and a thumbs down! The first time I went in to try on bridesmaid dresses the woman gushed over every dress I tried on, even though I looked like an 8 year old child in the extremely oversized dresses. I hated every dress we tried on because they were down to my mid calf and about 8 sizes to big. The bride chose a dress hoping it would look better in a smaller size. When we were being fitted for the dress, I measured a size 6. When I tried on a size 6, it was way too big and fell right to the floor. I tried on a size 4 in a different dress and it fix perfectly. They recommended I get a size 6 though because it was a different dress. I'm not sure as to why they would waste my time (20 minutes to get the size 4 from downstairs) to try on a dress that wasn't relevant to the decision making. They then went back and forth as to whether I should in fact get the size 4 or 6. They told me it was up to me, that the size 4 may fit perfectly, but may be too tight. I lost my temper immediately after because this is their job and they do this everyday! They measured me! They know my measurements, they should know what size I should get!! They told me I should get the 6 and will just have to have it taken in (they love the fee for alterations!!). I decided on the size 4 because at this point I did not trust them. Of course, when I get the size 4, it is too tight in the chest (partially my fault!). So I take it to be let out, which is a half inch on each side. She had me stay in the dressing room while she was out front discussing my alterations with the rest of the staff. I was tired of waiting so I went out front and it got very quiet and awkward. Almost as if they were trying to hide something from me. She then said the bride wanted all dresses to be 2 inches above the knee so she had to take it up a quarter inch...really?! The cost of the alterations were $90!!!! And I would have to leave work early to come back for TWO fittings. I called the bride, she said she never said the dresses has to be a certain length. I then began looking up other alteration places to go to and Lu Lu's (Reweaving and Reknitting Shop) had wonderful reviews. I took my dress and said I was going somewhere else very politely. They said okay, you will pay the same amount.....which I did not! read more

I can't complain about the service I received when I went to pick out my gown. Karen was good - not spectacular, but good - and better than I expected from the reviews I read. I found my dress quickly and she definitely played a role in that by listening to my thoughts. Move forward 7 months when the dress finally came in (after it was promised to be delivered in 6 months)...First of all, I live out of town, called a month ahead and they were still making a big deal about trying to "fit me in". I went with my mom to try it on but was not taking it with me so that I could go with my dad and have him pay for it the following day. The dress was in a nice zippered, heavy garment bag. Was it in the same nice bag when I went to pick it up? NO. It was in nothing more than a large pink garbage bag that you would expect to receive a prom gown in. I would expect more when paying over a grand for a dress and don't understand why they actually switched it. Here we are 2 weeks out from the wedding...as recommended by my seamstress (who contracts with Exquisite Bride), I called Bridal Beginning to discuss taking my dress to be steamed before the big day. When I confirmed that I purchased my dress from them but did not receive alterations there, she immediately switched tone and said she'd need to have someone else call me back. During the 2nd phone call, I was told that it would be a $100 charge for steaming!!! When brides spend a great deal of money on their gowns, you would think the least they could do is steam a dress free of charge regardless of whether or not you use their alterations dept. Maybe I'm out of line thinking I shouldn't have to pay, but apparently this is the service one will receive at Exquisite Bride and I'm sure other bridal salons who obviously offer much higher quality customer service! You may be lucky to find a decent sales rep like I did, but overall customer service is terrible! read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! After getting recently engaged, and deciding to go the Vegas route vs. having a traditional wedding, I immediately started looking for a dress knowing I only had a couple of months before the big day. I explained that out of the gate, along with the type of dress I wanted--somethnig more evening gown and elegant, nothing frumpy, flashy, or over-the-top. After making that clear, I was shuffled into a dressing room, where dresses were brought to me. I didn't even get to pick any out! All of the dresses looked like Vegas showgirl dresses that would have just made me look like an expensive call girl on my wedding day!!! When I did finally get to look at dresses for myself, they didn't have anything that fit my description, so I decided to look at bridesmaid dresses since they can be ordered in white/ivory colors. I caught hell about that from the woman helping me out. Now, I had no problem dishing considerable amount of money for a wedding dress, but the store just didn't have anything I wanted. The woman essentially became useless to me after I started looking at $200-400 bridesmaid gowns (I could only assume because the commission wouldn't be as great as the $1200 gowns she was shoving at me). I narrowed it down to two dresses. When they checked the production time on them, they tried to pressure me about ordering them that day to have them in on time for my January wedding. I told them I couldn't make a decision until my sister was present, as her opinion is extremely important to me, and I just got a ton of attitude about it. After reading several bad reviews on bridal beginnings I decided I should share my experience with everyone. I went there and had Sam as my consultant. She was fantastic! I have had horrible experiences at many other boutiques; from the dull personalities, to the horrible dress to selection, and to most importantly them not knowing a thing about what you want and putting you in the opposite of what you said. My experience today was nothing of the sorts. She didn't act like I was an inconvenience at all, which you'll get at other places, she even stayed an hour after the place closed to finalize my purchase. She catered to all of my needs, and the dress I bought was actually the first I tried on, that's how well she zoned in on what I wanted. I recently went here for dress shopping with some bridesmaids and the bride for a wedding I'll be in next year. I have to say I was pretty impressed with the service we received, even on a busy Saturday. First, we walked in and discovered only the bride could check in for us (maybe because she booked the appointment) but that was OK since she was just parking. The parking is horrible here the lot v. small so you'll likely have to park on the residential streets around the place. Our consultant came up to us and introduced herself, Beth. She then took us downstairs where the bridesmaids dresses were. As soon as we got downstairs she asked what we were looking for, if we wanted to match, etc. She told us to start browsing and pull things we liked. There were 7 of us there total, 3 trying on dresses, 1 bride, and 3 onlookers. Most places would get irritated with so many people, but Beth was a champ! We had a ton of dresses to try on, with 3 of us trying on dresses we went through them pretty quickly. At the end of the stock, we had narrowed it down to 3 dresses and we were discussing what the dresses would look like in other colors, suddenly Beth was standing there with her iPad to show us the dresses in different colors from the designer's website! One of the other things I liked about this place is that they have samples in larger sizes, not just 6 and 8... there were some 12 and 14, and we even saw a sample in 20! read more

Unfortunately the bridesmaid dress experience was terrible. My daughter came directly from work and was in scrubs. Immediately the ladies had an unwelcoming attitude. As the evening went on it was obvious that my daughter did not fit the profile of the clientele that was expected in this bridal salon. When it was time to take measurements, one bridesmaid was told that if she lost 20 lbs that the consultant would be able to utilize the sizing chart. The second bridesmaid, who has gone through a remarkable transformation of loosing 150lbs with more to go, was told that they didn't know what do with her except special order costing an additional $200 plus alternations. So sad that these ladies were judged by the consultants stereotyping and not who these young ladies truly are. read more

Everything went wonderfully and I never once second-guessed whether my gown was in good hands. Each time I went in, the staff was welcoming and friendly. She was positive and pleasant to talk to, and she put me at ease and addressed any concerns I had about my dress. Forgot to update this for about 1.5 years. As we expected, the dresses were WAAAY too large. I accepted sizing up 4 sizes, which was a highly miscalculated (and expensive) recommendation. I say this because when it was time for the fitting, I was 5 months pregnant with my 2nd child (I was NOT pregnant when I tried the dress on, with the original recs) and another bridesmaid's dress that was a size smaller than my usual dress size fit me perfectly. To recap, that's 6 sizes smaller than they recommended, and a size smaller than originally fitted at. I fit in a 10, they recommended 20-22, and the size 8 was a perfect fit at 5 months pregnant. I know this, because they gave me the wrong maid's dress. We took out dresses to a very skilled local seamstress. However, because the sizes were so off for 4/5 of us, they did not fit well. There was way too much fabric and no way to really to make them flattering. I had a stich put in the bust so my breasts and bra wouldn't be obscene. However, shortening the straps didn't work, because it pulled up the bust and the waistline would be right under our breasts and was unflattering. I can confidently say this, because my comparison was trying on that other, better fitting dress, which was flattering. So, all of us were frustrated and poorer $300. The dress went right to donation after the wedding. The entire experience was off-putting, whether it was a poorly trained employee or unfortunately greedy sales tactics. I would certainly not recommend this place. read more

I expected wedding dress shopping to be one of the best things about planning my wedding. Boy was I wrong. The employees at Bridal Beginning were snooty, rude and terse. As soon as they found out my budget of $2,000, it was like they could care less. Marissa kept bringing out dresses that were priced up to $8,000. When I asked to bring cheaper ones, her demeanor changed terribly. She kept telling us that the $2,000 and $3,000 dresses were "cheap" and "tacky" and said, "You get what you pay for." This was the worst customer service I have ever received!!! There was a designer there that day, and Marissa would only bring out her dresses -- even though we kept asking for different designers. I could go on and on... Everyone in our group was completely uncomfortable because of Marissa's attitude. The whole experience was devastating and humiliating!!! read more

I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Bridal Beginning. There is such a huge and varied collection of dresses. The ladies there were all so very nice and helpful. I lucked out getting to work with Sam, who after just a few minutes was able to explain my taste and my idea of what I wanted 10 times better than I was able to! Was so ready to give this place 5 stars. Went today looking for the perfect dress. There was such a big selection and I cried when I put the dress on and felt gorgeous in it. My mother was taking about the price with the consultant and it was $50 more than our budget. We were going to leave to grab lunch and 99% chance we would have been back to write a check. While getting helped out of the dress by the consultant she said "I probably shouldn't be saying this but I'll say it anyways. I'm offended that I helped you find the dress and you may be going somewhere else and I don't even collect commission..." and spent a good 5 minutes lecturing me and reaming me out about this. The consultant was also making rude remarks about the people I had with me and was pressuring me "well can't you just pitch in money yourself instead of your mom paying for all of it?" I was in such shock and was taught to always be the bigger person so I didn't say anything. I entered the dressing room with my dream dress on such a high feeling overjoyed that I found my dream dress and left feeling disgusted and almost in tears. As a business professional, if you don't like something you handle it professionally. Especially in the bridal industry, you should never say anything like that to a bride and make her feel awful over something out of her control. If she didn't like something, she should have held her tongue and not vented to me about it. I walked out upset and not smiling anymore. We got to the car and my mother asked me what was wrong and I told her. She almost stormed in to talk to the manager but I said I would go myself. I talked professionally and very calmly to the consultant telling her how unprofessional it was for her to make those remarks and how upset she made me. Although she apologized and seemed sincere, it still ruined my experience. Spent the whole 2 1/2 hour ride home not even being able to think about the dress I loved but instead about how badly I was made to feel when we would most likely have returned to purchase the dress 30 minutes later. I totally agree about the sizing. I was told to order a size 12 in my mother-of-the-bride dress while I was standing in a size 10 at the store that fit me fine...we were just ordering a different color. Subsequently the dress is in and I am NOT going there for alterations because they will have to charge me a boat load to rebuild the dress. I have gone to my own seamtress/tailor and the entire upper half - armholes, back, side seams - are all being taken in; but due to all the embroidery the chest area can not be reseamed to fit my smaller bra size. Probably will have to stuff some breast cutlets in there to fill the space!!! Everything I had tried on before this bridal store and every dress I had considered were all size 10s. They would not listen and insisted they had the correct measurements. I think it is a sting operation - consultants have you order the wrong size to boost the revenue in the alterations department!!! PS...the dress is beautiful, hence why I gotta make it work!!!! read more

I stopped in on short notice to look for Mom of the Groom dresses and did not have an appointment....It was a Saturday morning and obviously swarming with brides and their parties. The receptionist quickly helped me and assigned Lisa to show me to the lower level. Edie assisted me there immediately. Even though I have a very short time span she offered several good options.Sadly, the one I was interested in was not available by order in the color I needed. The dress was very elegant, but simple and even had to remove from a display. Not looking for matronly, stuffy look. They have a great selection, were very accommodating and helpful. I was reluctant to stop there due to other reviews I looked at prior to going. I'm glad I did! I just needed to start my shopping sooner. read more

I ordered an Adriana Papell bridesmaid dress here and when it arrived I realized that the fit was too big, the color was completely different and overall was dissatisfied. I tried to rectify the situation with the store directly--both with the buyer and the person who assisted the bridal party--but they said they could not help. They actually refused to take it back because they already had the same size dress in the store. To add, each one of the bridesmaids dress colors arrived COMPLETELY different from what we swatched which is unfortunate as we are all variating muted tones and were extremely mindful of selecting the right shades. Now the shades really aren't even cohesive. I don't recommend shopping here due to the fact that I was sold something at a size too big (which makes altering more expensive) and a color completely different than what arrived. They also refused to make it right. I have since had to purchase a NEW dress since they would not help me. read more

I found my perfect dress at Bridal Beginning on Saturday!! I attended the Pittsburgh Bridal Showcase in March where I first heard about Bridal Beginning. Although the showcase was kind of a bust for me, I made a great connection with the Bridal Beginning team. When I first walked up to the booth, I was immediately greeted and they showered me with congratulations and compliments on my style. They seemed super genuine and so nice, and I knew that I needed to make an appointment with them, and in particular, Sam. I told one of my friends that I was going dress shopping at Bridal Beginning and she told me that she bought her dress there and had Sam as a consultant. She ranted and raved about how great she was, and I became super excited for my appointment. When I first arrived for my appointment, the store was extremely busy. My family and I began looking at dresses that they had out in the front of the store, but we didn't really see anything that I was looking for. We waited for about 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment before someone came up to me to let me know they would be with me shortly. My family was pretty upset that it took that long for anyone to notice us, and I was beginning to feel discouraged about finding a dress there. Shortly after, though, Sam came up to me to begin our search. I had forgotten to request Sam when I made my appointment, but THANKFULLY she was my consultant. It seemed meant to be! She began by asking me about my wedding, my style, and what I thought I was looking for. She took me back to the dressing room and quickly pulled several dresses for me. I had a pretty tough crowd with me judging each dress I put on, but Sam continuously reminded me that I looked beautiful. We talked like we had been friends forever, and finally, I she put THE dress on me that I had been looking for my whole life. I don't know how she did it, but she knew exactly what I was looking for. I walked out to show my family, and everyone started crying. I had to have that dress! Interestingly, the dress I chose was from Bridal Beginning's own line. It is absolutely beautiful. I wanted a fitted lace dress to show off my curves, and the lace is perfect. A lot of dresses I have seen in other stores and by other designers seem cheap, but this lace is absolutely flawless. They use the best material. It was kind of expensive for Pittsburgh, though--I spent over $3000, but it is WELL worth it! Overall, my experience was great. I HIGHLY recommend Bridal Beginning. I don't know about the other consultants, but when you make an appointment, ask for Sam. She's like a little dress fairy, and I've heard only great things about her. She just made me feel so comfortable, beautiful, and important...and she knew exactly what would look perfect on me. My dress is gorgeous, and I highly recommend trying on Bridal Beginning's line. The material is top notch. The only negative part about my experience was that it took a lot longer than I expected to be waited on. However, to me, that means that they are willing to take their time to find the perfect dress for someone. I think its really important to make a great connection with your consultant, and I definitely was able to. I would suggest to Bridal Beginning that they maybe not overbook their appointments since they take their time with their customers. I had a rough start at Bridal Beginning, but with manager Lisa by my side and seamstress Amanda I wound up purchasing the dress of my dreams. Both of these ladies embody the meaning of customer service and put me right at ease. The dress transformed so much during alteration that I just fell in love and was in tears that it was everything I wanted and so much more. I'd give it 10 stars if I could. I walked in pretty much having no idea what I wanted. Carole was so kind and welcoming, immediately made me feel comfortable, and guided my decision making process perfectly. If I wasn't super excited about something she wisked it away. She challenged me with things I never would have thought to try on, it was an adventure!! She was supportive and enthusiastic without being pushy. She felt like family by end of it. Was so excited to get my dress from here because I knew so many people who loved theirs. Unfortunately, 2 months after getting my dress, my fiance called off the wedding. So in addition to losing a deposit for the venue, I also was cut no break by Bridal Beginnings. They said it happens all the time. Oh how nice... so you are constantly kicking newly dumped girls when they are down at one of the most traumatizing/devastating times in their lives?? I offered for them to keep my deposit (over 50%) and to have the dress just cancelled. Apparently that is against policy and "no company does that". Thanks Bridal Beginnings for making my nightmare worse. Will NEVER recommend anyone to go here!! Bridal boutiques are a dime a dozen. read more

Beware! Do not listen to their saleswomen about your size. I was told that I needed a size that I thought was pretty large, but trusted the seamstress that she measured correctly and knew the designer. I called a few days later, after trying on dresses by many other designers for another wedding. Dresses 3 - 4 sizes smaller fit me everywhere else. I was told there was nothing I could do, to wait until it came in and then see. Well, I went to try it on, and it literally fell off of me. The manager kept pulling it back saying that it fit. Obviously, it fits when you are pulling it. There was no arguing with them. Save your money and go elsewhere for alterations. There is no way they will every get another dime out of me. Also, the manager came in and called me by a shortened form of my first name, I guess as a way to make it seem like we were old friends. I found this particularly irritating because they were not taking me seriously at all. When I informed them that I would write a bad review, she told me how insulted she was that I would do that to a family business. Edit: 6/17/10 - I just took the dress somewhere else to be altered. They have to take 5 inches off of the width of the dress that the woman at bridal beginnings was insisting fit me. read more

i was a bridesmaid very recently and the bride got her dress here. for the bride everything went perfect. for the brides maids it was a freaking disaster. first the dresses were ridiculously expensive and with me being an out of towner i had to call in my measurements, the woman who took my measurements was very rude and recommended i get a size 14! I'm a 4!! even after telling her this she wouldn't let me get anything less than a 12! when it came time for the dress to be shipped to me the woman who took down my address wrote it wrong and fed ex lost it! a new dress was sent to me very speedily but no one offered to refund the s&h! when i finally got the dress i was swimming in it!!! and when i went to look at the receipt there were rude comments written on it about how i was argumentative and how i was shy about my size!!! i had to rush the dress to a tailor, the other ladies said the same thing and the one got her's altered at the shop said they charged her over $100 for the dress to be taken in 2 sizes! in short the women here are rude and have poor customer service and they are completely over priced!! if your a bride and don't want a headache for yourself and your bridesmaids have your ladies go somewhere else!!!! read more
