I was referred to Dr. Moroz by another physician and is one of the best referrals I've ever…read morereceived. A little background: After surgery for nerve pain in my neck (two vertebrate fused) I continued to have problems. I was prescribed pain killers including opioids and Lyrica and nothing was working. I was then referred to a pain management clinic which did injections, nerve blocks, ablations and I was prescribed additional controlled narcotics. All the while they seemed to be focused on setting me up for a spinal stimulator trial. In fact, they got the approval from my insurance before even trying the blocks and ablations. I felt like the goal of the treatment was the implant and I didn't feel comfortable with their line of treatment. So it was time for a second opinion. Fast forward to Dr. Moroz. He agreed to see me and asked for all of my previous MRIs, CTs, physical therapy, etc... When I arrived for the appt it was obvious he had done his homework and was familiar with my history. His approach was let's deal with the pain, and not worry about what had been done in the past. It was history and couldn't changed. After a thorough discussion he addressed the pain simply by prescribing a prescription strength NSAID and cold compresses. No opioids or other pain killers! Two days later I was without pain. He also ordered another MRI to rule out any other issues or complications... which showed no additional problems. Today I had a follow-up appt via phone (I was offered in an office, video or phone appt) and we discussed follow up options. Since I was no longer in pain, he did not recommend any additional treatments, which I loved. His only goal was that I was in no pain! To say the least, I am super impressed with his knowledge, treatment, bedside manner and staff. See him before you have surgery! You could possibly save yourself weeks or months of pain and significant amounts of money. If I had it to do over again I would have gotten a second opinion before the first surgery, which may have resulted in no surgery a all! While I'm at it. Let me also recommend the Doctor who referred me. It might not make sense on the surface, since he is a dermatologist. But I've seen Dr. Jason S. Reichenberg for over 15 years and trust his advise explicitly. So, if you need a dermatologist, he's the guy.

Dr Moroz was condescending and seemed perpetually annoyed. The appointment was extremely rushed, I…read morefelt he did not listen to me or really cared about the outcome. He kept cutting me off mid sentence and never even got to my actual pain complaints until the end as an afterthought. If your aim is to leave the doctor's office feeling small, unimportant, dismissed and stupid, give Dr Moroz a try. His nurse, Stephanie, is an angel.

She was patient with me whenever I got antsy and calmly answered any questions I had, even the pesky annoying ones that could drive doctors nuts. She does her job efficiently and in a careful manner, always walking me through the uncomfortable bits, especially for some procedures that could easily leave one feeling traumatized if something went wrong. I've had many bad experiences with going to the doctor's office, but never once has she ever made me feel unsafe. At the practice where I was seeing her, she was one of the only decent people there; I'd call the office and sometimes whoever answered clearly had a bad day and would go off, amongst other interactions that made me question my time there(pre-COVID too no less), but knowing how clinics are it's no skin off my back and PA Enos is someone I can trust. While I can no longer see her until she's at another clinic I can go to per my insurance, I'd feel confident seeing her again knowing she has the patient's best interest at heart.

This is all the more astounding because nutrition was her undergraduate degree. She also doesn't appear to practice evidence-based medicine. After her asking me what I eat in a typical day, she asked, "Where do you get your protein?" (Ugh. The idea that protein is hard to come by is flatly wrong and severely outdated. As Dr. Nestle, chair of the NY University nutrition dept. said, *26* years ago "We never talk about protein anymore, because it's absolutely not an issue, even among children. If anything, we talk about the dangers of high-protein diets. Getting enough is simply a matter of getting enough calories." The DV/RDA is ~8% of calories from protein, while grains are ~13% protein, vegetables 23%, etc.) She then tried to tell me that I had to combine plants foods to get a complete protein. (That was an urban legend promoted by a popular 1971 book, whose author recanted ten years later. The USDA nutrient database shows that individual vegetables, grains, and beans have all essential amino acids, in higher amounts than what we need.) Finally, she said I should eat more fat. I asked if there were science to support the idea that an addition of fat to an otherwise healthy diet improves health outcomes. Her reply was like, "I've been a doctor for 20 years...." Meaning, no science. By the way, she asked why I chose her, and I said that one of her patients wrote in a review about how he was able to get off all his meds for Crohn's Disease. Dr. Ikbal replied that the patient took himself off the meds, it wasn't her doing. Anyway, after hearing so much misinformation in just a brief, limited interaction, I have to wonder what other misinformation Dr. Ikbal is operating on. If you want a physician who practices evidence-based medicine, you'll probably want to look elsewhere. UPDATE: After I left the above review, suddenly DOZENS of glowing 5-star reviews appeared within a few days, about 1/3 of which are from people not even in the Austin area, many not even in the same state, and many of whom have zero other reviews on Yelp. Yelp has understandably moved most of these to the "Reviews Not Recommended" section. Is Dr. Ikbal buying fake reviews? Draw your own conclusions.
