You've got yourself a legally binding will, power of attorney, health care advance directive, etc. Betsy also told us everything about death we wouldn't have even known to ask. I worked with Steven Shaw from 2006-2009 for my car accident that occured in Maryland as a…read morepassenger in a friend's vehicle. I was referred to him by a family friend shortly after the accident and we met him about a week after we returned to Seattle. We hired him immediately after meeting him as we did not want to deal with the insurance companies at all which turned out to be so worthwhile. In anticipation of possible issues with an out of state claim, he networked at a conference in DC and made a business connection with another attorney just in case we had to file anything in Maryland. Our cost to him wouldn't have increased had we hired a second attorney so that made me feel comfortable about what could happen. This made me feel even more confident in his abilities to represent our case since it was out of state. Fortunately, we did not have to file a lawsuit in Maryland so that saved us another 2 years of waiting to settle. Overall, we were pleased with his work and would refer him to anyone needing representation for a car accident. The case took about 3 years to settle but that was because we had to go through medical treatment and weren't in any rush to settle. Usually people wait until they are ready to settle before they retain counsel so we jumped the gun a bit but not having to talk to an adjuster was worth the contingency that Steven collected upon our settlement. The settlement he negotiated for us was fair and he did a great job. If I were to ever get into another accident, I would hire him in a heartbeat. He's earned our business and referrals for life.
