"Dr" Levin is supposedly a "pain management specialist". I wound up having to see this "doctor"…read morebecause my prior pain management doctor retired. I had a pair of ruptured discs and Mr. Levin told me that all I had was a "case of mild disc degeneration". He was further angered with me for my disinterest in attending group therapy sessions. I simply didn't feel that talking about my blown-out discs to other people would do anything to fix them. Mr. Levin even went so far as to suggest that I might be faking my injury to get a couple pain pills a day. In the end, I wound up with a mouth full of broken teeth that State Comp is going to have to pay for because of his incompetence. Mr. Levin told me that he was no longer interested in treating me (thank God!) and my attorney recommended an outstanding doctor. Mr. Levin even had so much spite for me that he booted me without refilling my pain meds - so fortunately I was able to have my HMO fill them as they didn't want to see me have a stroke as my blood pressure was incredibly high. Within 14 months of getting a new doctor, I was in for my surgeries to have both of my ruptured discs replaced, and I'm finally doing much better pain-wise. All I can say is to avoid this doctor at all costs, as all they will do is "milk your health benefits" for all they can while providing you as little relief as possible. Please note that I have referred to this "doctor" as "Mr. Levin" - because I fail to see how such an incompetent individual could ever get a license to practice medicine.

I moved from Southern California and have been flying back and forth each month to see my regular…read morepain management dr. I finally got settled in a new apartment (had been staying with my sister) so I made an appointment with a new pain dr in town. It did not work out with that dr because it turned out his prescribing license had expired and the day I showed up he was missing and his staff had no clue where he was (another review for another day)...so I was forced to book a flight last minute to my usual dr. Because I had gone to another dr my usual dr would only agree to give me 2 weeks worth of medicine (he said he shouldn't have given me any, but understood because I was trying to find a dr where I moved). They gave me copies of my records and a referral to Dr. Levin's office (who I had called before I left for the trip to see what was required to come in). So when I got back to town I brought my records and referral to Dr. Levin's office. ..they said their policy was for the dr to review the records and see if their was 'anything he could offer' and then if so he would schedule an appointment. I figured no problem because I gave a crap load of issues, I have had physical therapy, spinal injections, acupressure, acupunture, massage therapy, chiropractic adjustments, water therapy, and medication. ..and I included MRIs, CT scans...and a stack of records so thick it cost $7 for me to get a copy made at 10 cents a page. So I go in, I give them all of that and tell them could they please hurry with getting back to me because my other dr only gave me two weeks worth of medicine. ...and I was very explicit about this and how important it was. This was Monday. Friday rolls around and I FINALLY get a phone call from their office (Btw I did call them and leave messages earlier in the week...heard nothing). I answer and the lady says she is sorry but the dr feels he can't 'offer me anything' because he doesn't prescribe pain medication at his office. I am thinking 'Are you kidding me?' He is a pain doctor, but doesn't prescribe medication. That doesn't even make sense. So he can't offer me physical therapy or spinal injections either...anything? I mean it's not like I only need meds...I also need other help. The point is he could have offered something or recommended a dr to help. They knew that at that point I only had one week of meds left...thanks to their quick review of my records. I am frankly pissed because I explained my medication situation on the phone to the receptionist when I called the very first time before I ever made my trip to my old dr and asked him for a referral. She could have informed me Dr. Levin did not prescribe medication at that time and I would have kept looking for another reputable doctor. I wouldn't have been left with my thumb up my ass without a dr looking like some addict about ready to suffer from narcotic withdrawals, also in extreme pain. Not to mention I do have a life...I can't just stop everything and keep going from Dr to dr, or check into the hospital if things get really bad. I have a son to take care of and responsibilities.

When writing a review for a business, I think of the people that work there. After all, a business…read morecouldn't be a business without people to make it happen. I have seen some pretty nasty reviews from folks that really get mad about how they were treated and how awful that particular business treated them. No matter how well the business may be operated, or how dedicated the people are, there will always be someone who complains. This office is no exception. I have seen some pretty upset folks in their reviews, but I have also seen some great reviews too. To be fair, the good reviews far outweigh the bad ones. I have been a patient at this business for awhile. My first impression was that they were extremely busy. Especially so because of the latest de facto "laws" that have arisen because of opioid abuse in the U.S. This office is taking a lot of risk at putting themselves squarely in the crosshairs of litigious and self-centered people. It makes it tough on folks who genuinely need help with their pain. There have been a great deal of people that have been forced to go to an office like this one because most general physicians in this area have chickened-out at prescribing pain meds because of the abuse issue. The first few times that I went to this place, it was really overcrowded. However, the individuals that work here strike me as dedicated and caring. Starting off with Heather in the front. This woman works her tail off. I watched her get the tongue lashing of a lifetime by someone who was completely out of order and wrong. But she took it and dealt with the problem like a pro. She juggles several balls at once and does a superb job at it. I met with Dr. Kim on several occasions and he was thorough of his examination of my condition and pain. He did a good job. Jennifer Kelly and the other PAs there also do an outstanding job. Considering that they are dealing with people who are in pain most of the time, it takes a lot of patience and understanding treat each person fairly and professionally. I don't think you will find too many other places in this area that do a better job at their work in pain mgmt. than this office. If you have a need in this area, these folks will take good care of you!

Hello. I am the victim of a late night car accident in which…read moreI was struck by a teenager under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The driver emerged unscathed and I emerged with a crushed spine and a world filled with unrelenting pain. After several surgeries my level of pain hadn't changed much since I was wheeled into the E.R. over eight months ago. I was referred to the pain management people at Roger Stephens by my PCP, against my better judgement. He assured me it was the proper step to take since my injuries had not responded well to the surgeries and it looked like I was in for a long road to recovery. The middle-aged female M.D. I consulted with at Stephen's was condescending, abrupt and unhelpful - and that's putting her in the best light. One would expect a pain management specialist to have at a minimum some empathy for anyone resorting to pain management as a remedy for unrelenting pain. The physician I spoke with had none of this. Rather than being interviewed by a compassionate care-giver who understood the discomfort and embarrassment associated with having to resort to pain management in order to live any kind of decent existence, I was greeted by a soulless functionary who made it clear that I was going to be given the absolute minimum dose of a common pain-killer, which I already had been using reluctantly and sparingly. She also made it clear that the dosage had little to do with 'what worked'. Her taciturn manner perfectly fit her message which was "we don't want you getting high on these medications." The ludicrousness of this message delivered to a 72 year-old, former marine pilot was completely lost on her. Most of her comments involved making sure that I understood the physicians at Stephen's were not there for my convenience (already obvious by the fact that they refuse refill requests by phone) but to make sure no one was abusing medication. She backed up that assertion by making me provide a urine sample for a drug test which was mandatory before any scripts would be written and would be required regularly to make sure I wasn't abusing substances. All of this was delivered with a gratuitous half-smile that was more alarming than the circumstances that brought me there. Had I not just placed myself in their hands for maintenance of my medication schedule prior to my next surgery (and had I been able to walk, never mind run) I would have run from the building like it was on fire. If you are contemplating short-term medication maintenance for any reason, please research the organization thoroughly in advance and read the reviews. I wouldn't recommend these people to my worst enemy. I am this close to filing a complaint with the medical board in Sacramento but am convinced they are already aware of the callous regard with which these physicians view their clientele. Hopefully they are the exception rather than the rule when it comes to this type of clinic. It's hard to believe that at this time in our society there are medical people this despicable and unconcerned with respect to the oath they supposedly once took. This is as much warning as I can give. Hopefully, for your sake, it will be enough.

They explained what was going on at each step and it was an enjoyable time . Check in was quick and I didn't have too much paperwork at admittance . Another patient was experiencing this challenge, but the staff was able to easily assist. Given whatever reason you are at the PD&TC; it was my specific experience that the staff actually put in the "TLC"...perhaps they rename the center "PD&TLC". Anywho...who is responsible for my experience and who did I interact with here? Well, who didn't I interact with is more like it. I was lucky that they provided me with a large envelope with their names so I could recognize them specifically. First, Krystal...not only was she very helpful but I observed her with others as well. The nurses...the three amigas.... Shannon, Sunny and Kameko...all of them brought their own personalities to the party. I love my party hat! The warm blankets were a super comforting touch, and a little refreshing apple juice was a nice touch.... like a 5-star hotel! I can't forget Scott, the anesthesia guy! Explained the process and what would take place. It's really great since I'm guessing some have the fear of the unknown and not only Scott, but the rest of the staff I mentioned above, were very reassuring and explained everything. Can you imagine, not only do they have to perform their jobs well, but they also have the emotional aspects to manage. I bumped the IV in my hand and they fixed that straight away. That was reassuring as heck! Seriously, I can't thank you enough from my heart to all of yours. Oh yeah, hearing them interact with each other and just chit/chat was also comforting...could you imagine if there was dead silence...no bueno! For post-op, when being wheeled out to the car, I believe her name was Nancy, but I was still feeling the effects of the anesthesia...she was wonderful as well. If I have to come back for anything else, I would love to request the same team! If I'm in the area, I'd love to stop by to bring y'all some goodies!! 5-star care, and that's for pre and post op "CARE". The only recommendation I could make is to perhaps "update" the waiting room. I think the building is a bit older which comes with it's own inherent challenges. I didn't think it was a big deal, but if you compare that waiting room to other hospital/professional waiting rooms, perhaps subconsciously it would be reassuring to the first-time patient. Just trying to think of something that could be improved...lol.
