Let me start by saying that anyone that visits the El Paso Zoo from a larger metro needs to lower…read moretheir expectations. This is the El Paso Zoo, not San Diego. With that in mind, I think that for the size of the city this zoo has a lot of potential for the size of the city and has improved significantly in the last few years. I recently visited the El Paso Zoo for the first time in 15 years and was amazed as how much it has changed. Compared to other zoos, their prices are very reasonable and I like that they also offer military and senior discounts. We visited on Super Bowl Sunday and it was absolutely perfect! The place was not super busy and since it was a little chilly all the animals were super active. Some of our favorites were the penguins and the meerkats. One thing to keep in mind if you visit very early is that all of their stores and vendors are still closed so it does take a few hours for them to open everything up. They also had some sections of the zoo closed up for renovations but not too many. Frankly it was nice to see that they are working to improve the living conditions of the animals. Overall, we had an amazing time and will definitely back next time we are in town.

I debated back and forth on going to this zoo while in town, as it didn't seem like it was that…read moremuch. I'm glad I decided to give it a chance though, I was definitely wrong! While this zoo is on the smaller side, I felt like there was enough to see to make it worth it. It's also only $13-15, depending if you're a resident or not! What really stood out about this place were the unique animals - There's a lot to see from the Chihuahuan Desert, and other nearby regions. Each area is also nicely organized by Africa, Asia, The Americas, etc. There were a few places closed due to renovations but I'll assume that's because of the time of year. This zoo is pretty great! And only a short ride from downtown!
