It's conveniently located in town within walking distance to the Best Western also about expectations, everyone is under staffed, so I always appreciate the service  staff who are working.  The serving staff I had that night were professional and attentive.  This restaurant still has that old time feel it's a definite classic type vibe It's in the sense of good food and high quality and really nice views even though it's a bistro.  Its family-owned business and the owners seem to be committed to quality.  I had the house salad and I was told it was organic and farm to table with fresh local ingredients. My other entries were simple a nice steak medium rare and some great mashed potatoes.The food was well prepared hot and delicious.  I had a nice house red cabernet which was tasty. I had the 10 oz prime rib special that was prepared in duck fat and had a choice of red pepper au jus which I had to try. Was an excellent meal for both of us. Our server Jay did an awesome job. While in Red River, NM the Whiskey Bros happened upon a jewel of a restaurant. We were walking to a certain planned destination but happened upon Brett's outdoor signage claiming to have prime rib. Prime rib, being what it is, instantly captivates the attention of any unassuming Whiskey Bro just as a flower captivates a bee. We were, as these things seem to happen, whisked into the restaurant on hopes and dreams that only sensual culinary satiation can provide. The let down that we experienced when the sweet waitress exclaimed that they were indeed out of their prime rib was an axe to our revived core. As culinary adventurism often requires, we determined that we would see things through. With a commitment to this ideal we would stay, order a bottle of red, and try to make the most of a bloody disaster. What followed provided shocks and surprises the wisest Whiskey Bro could never have hoped for. Often we must pull ourselves from the depths of a sensual culinary dive to gain a critical perch from which to judge a meal. We tried, but to no avail. The smorgasbord of steak, trout and lamb accompanied by various interestingly 'sauced' sides locked us into an olfactory journey only the best of critics could dissect. When we had the group realization that we could taste Key lime in the mushrooms our brains nearly exploded with awe. Everything before us was merely... complex and perfect. After the meal, our plates showing the magnitude of the destruction we laid upon them and us moaning after a battle hard won. Our kind waitress merely asked an otherwise unassuming question. "Dessert?" I don't exactly recall what the dessert was. Sensing our severe struggle with thinking in general, not to mention our limited capacity to merely communicate, our waitress ordered for us. She was so empathetic to our pain. It was a cake 'something' with ice cream. More than enough for three very large men. I only remember the frenzied attack that occurred after that first hesitant taste, the likes of which can be witnessed in zombie movies. The French onion soup definitely deserves a 5 star. The salmon is also a great meal and is very fresh tasting. The chicken fried steak is also delicious- expect a large portion size for this meal. This place serves good food but however for the price this may be considered unreasonable. The carrot cake was served very cold and the frosting was no good. Could have been a better cake. I got the almond crusted salmon, my wife and son split the large chicken fried steak and my youngest son got the garlic butter spaghetti. The sides of rice pilaf (with worcestershire sauce), mashed potato's, and mixed vegetables were all really good. The food was great and the everyone was extremely friendly. I'd highly recommend this over the trendier place down the street that has long wait times. Let me start out by saying the food was delicious. And that's where the good news ends. The service in this place is just incredibly terrible. First of all, when I went to check in with the host to tell him we had a party of 7 he was incredibly rude - like we were putting him out by asking him to eat there. When I went back to ask him if our wait was almost up (after 45 minutes) he automatically said, "Nope" and then looked up at the actual restaurant and found a place to put us. He wasn't even trying to sit us. We finally got our seat and after 20 minutes they took our drink and food order at the same time. We asked them about bringing bread out and they did but didn't bring us any bread plates. We asked them to bring us plates and they did but 5 of the 7 plates were broken/chipped. I finally went up to the host to ask him to find our waitress because we never got our drinks. When we went to check out the host was actually eating steak on the counter at the front where we were checking out. It was totally unprofessional and gross. Like I said, the food was good but the ambiance and the service DO NOT make it very easy to spend the kind of money they are asking for their food. The prices are high and I wouldn't mind paying it at all of our experience was better. If you do brave this place, get the cracklins and the mushroom sauté. They were delicious. But just go into the experience with open eyes. read more

We attempted to go here to celebrate our anniversary while in town from out of state. I called ahead of time because we had a larger group (7) and I wanted to either make a reservation or at least give the restaurant a heads up that we were coming. They do not take reservations s, which is fine, and I was told that our anticipated arrival time of 5:30 wouldn't be an issue to accommodate our party of 7. This was all that was said. My party and I arrived promptly at 5:30 and were told we couldn't be seated as a group of 7 because 6 was the maximum number and that it would be at least 40 minutes. The hostess wasn't necessarily rude but also did not seem at all interested in the fact that this was a special day, offer any kind of real alternative and honestly came across as though she couldn't be bothered with our group who wanted to dine with them. I'd originally picked this place OVER Texas Red's because of similar types of reviews, thinking this small town business would be the perfect kind of place to enjoy dinner AND their menu looked amazing I was sorely disappointed over their lack of hospitality and needless to say, doubt I would attempt to dine their again. They have rearranged a bit and put a hostess desk up front (for those two reviewers that complained about being ignored). Fyi, their food portions are huge so sharing is possible. I don't normally add reviews, but I want to let Brett know that you have fantastic food. We usually eat there every time we come to Red River. Food is great, but the service and atmosphere, not so great. We could hear the kitchen staff freely throwing the "F" bomb all through our meal. Then when the check came they charged us 10$ for an extra plate of vegetables and cold potatoes. We never asked for the extra plate. We were splitting one Chicken Fried Steak. They have never charged us before. I guess new owners translates to new policies. Even though the food is great, we probably won't be back again. read more

This is hands down the best food in Red River. It's a great place to take older kids to, but they have options for younger kids too. It's pricey, but a great place to go for New Years or another holiday (or date night)! I ordered the seafood paella, and it was delicious (picture below). Yelp led us to Brett's Bistro and overall it was a good experience. We went around 3 in the afternoon and were just about the only ones there. I ordered the lobster tail, and my husband the filet. I'm not sure how long we waited, but it seemed like the food took forever to come out. I would hate to go there when it's busy! When it finally did, the veggies were not completely warm. Cooks smoke tobacco and other things at their work station,drains constantly back up on the kitchen floor dish machine doesn't clean properly so people are eating off of dirty dishes.
