Almond Crusted Salmon with Wild Rice Pilaf and Sautéed Vegetables
    Taste B.

Brett's Bistro has prime real estate on the main strip in Red River, NM. This tiny, quaint restaurant is absolutely wonderful. The staff is nice and friendly, the service is speedy and the Chef is nothing less than amazing. Brett's Bistro is always on our list of restaurants to dine at when we visit Red River. We will put them up against any high end Steak Restaurant. Food Review: Almond Crusted Salmon - a large piece of perfectly cooked moist, juicy flavorful salmon topped with wonderful seasoning and crusted thin almond slices. Sautéed Vegetables - very tender, well seasoned zucchini, onions, broccoli and corn with a hint of olive oil were absolutely delicious. Wild Rice Pilaf - perfectly cooked seasoned wild rice was absolutely amazing. Rib Eye Steak - large steak, grilled to medium perfection was seasoned good. The steak was tender and absolutely amazing. Baked Potato - topped with cheese, butter, extra sour cream and bacon bits was very good. House Salad with homemade Blue Cheese dressing - crisp greens, tomatoes, carrots and onions covered with homemade blue cheese dressing with bits of blue cheese crumbles was absolutely wonderful. *this place is top notch and highly recommend*

While in Red River, NM the Whiskey Bros happened upon a jewel of a restaurant. We were walking to a certain planned destination but happened upon Brett's outdoor signage claiming to have prime rib. Prime rib, being what it is, instantly captivates the attention of any unassuming Whiskey Bro just as a flower captivates a bee. We were, as these things seem to happen, whisked into the restaurant on hopes and dreams that only sensual culinary satiation can provide. The let down that we experienced when the sweet waitress exclaimed that they were indeed out of their prime rib was an axe to our revived core. As culinary adventurism often requires, we determined that we would see things through. With a commitment to this ideal we would stay, order a bottle of red, and try to make the most of a bloody disaster. What followed provided shocks and surprises the wisest Whiskey Bro could never have hoped for. Often we must pull ourselves from the depths of a sensual culinary dive to gain a critical perch from which to judge a meal. We tried, but to no avail. The smorgasbord of steak, trout and lamb accompanied by various interestingly 'sauced' sides locked us into an olfactory journey only the best of critics could dissect. When we had the group realization that we could taste Key lime in the mushrooms our brains nearly exploded with awe. Everything before us was merely... complex and perfect. After the meal, our plates showing the magnitude of the destruction we laid upon them and us moaning after a battle hard won. Our kind waitress merely asked an otherwise unassuming question. "Dessert?" I don't exactly recall what the dessert was. Sensing our severe struggle with thinking in general, not to mention our limited capacity to merely communicate, our waitress ordered for us. She was so empathetic to our pain. It was a cake 'something' with ice cream. More than enough for three very large men. I only remember the frenzied attack that occurred after that first hesitant taste, the likes of which can be witnessed in zombie movies. If you are ever in Red River, New Mexico; or Taos, or anywhere in this corner of the world. Do yourself a favor and devote an evening to a serious exploration of Brett's Bistro. Like us, it may well set a new standard for your own culinary adventures.

The French onion soup definitely deserves a 5 star. The salmon is also a great meal and is very fresh tasting. The chicken fried steak is also delicious- expect a large portion size for this meal. This place serves good food but however for the price this may be considered unreasonable. The carrot cake was served very cold and the frosting was no good. Could have been a better cake. I would give this a 3 star but for how good the soup and bread is I'm giving it a 4.

Really surprised about $19.95 mushroom dish -appetizer - that did not meet description and service that did not care. Early visit, excellent service and meal with in expectations.

We go to Red River once a year to see snow, and it's one of the most friendly towns that you can find except for the Alpine Lodge. They hate dogs. anyway, we have never tried the Bistro, however my wife is extremely picky about crab cakes and these are some of the best she's ever had except they were kind of large. We will be going back next year!!

Not what this place used to be, unfortunately we will not return. While the service was good the dishes were not up to par.

Don't get me wrong, we love Mexican food, but nothing can beat our TexMex! Beware they are open 7 days a week for the holidays until 5 Jan. They open at 4:30. When you come in, it's beautifully decorated for Christmas! They have a fire burning where you can wait and not definitely had a rustic feel to it! They sat us next to the fire which was really nice for it being cold outside. Our server was very attentive, nice and knowledgeable. The menus were pretty spiffy too as it looked like an old newspaper clipping! They had a variety of steak and also had different animal options like elk & bison. The prices were a bit steep but given the quality and how well they executed the meal, I would say it was well worth it! You are offered a pretzel like bread with butter while ordering. Our waiter was on it and he continued to fill our drinks before we could even ask for more! What we ordered: - Bison ribeye (medium+): this was a gem! If you've never had bison before, don't get scared! It tastes just like cow only it's better for you! The cook was perfection and the seasoning on point! My 13 year old ordered it and devoured it! He had initially asked for A1 sauce but because it was flavored so well, opted not to use it. He said it was one of the best steaks he has ever had! - Ground Elks (medium) w/ chile and grilled onions: it comes dry but our waiter suggested adding green chile and onions to it (beware that's an $11 up charge). It was flavored well, cooked well and tasted amazing. My husband never had elk and said it was really good. Tasted just like ground beef with just a hint of something different. - 12 oz New York sirloin (medium): cooked to perfection, seasoned perfectly and topped it with a garlic/butter compound. My daughter, who rarely eats anything more than a 3oz, ate more than half because she liked it that much. - 10oz ribeye (medium): cooked and flavored to perfection again!! On top of that, it was so tender and melted like butter in my mouth! It was so smooth, and just an amazing quality I hadn't had in such a long time. While ribeye comes fatty, this was utter perfection! I typically only eat about 4-5 oz, but ate the entire thing! If we decide to come back to this area, we will definitely stop here! If you want a good steak, go here!!!

The service was kind of bad where our waitress was not very helpful and all of the steaks in the table were temps below warm. The steak I had was a bit undercooked and was the coldest of them all. The butter on top did not even come close to melting. We sent our steak back to the kitchen to get reheated, which is something I never do. The reheated steak was just a bit better, and they forget to add the butter in it. At this point we should have just had a brand new steak. The added quail on the plate was a bit overcooked. I highly recommend going elsewhere on this street that did not disappoint this badly.

They have a beautiful screen, however they play random movies and there isn't a start time. They have areas set up social style as if you're sitting in your living room, and traditional table settings. The social areas are very nice and trendy. A different vibe for a small town. The Waitress was really nice, and even packaged our leftovers for us. Food Review: CHICKEN WINGS - deep fried with red chile and bbq sauce on the side. The wings are good but the sauce is nasty. Get the sauce on the side because it isn't good at all. The taste is bland, watered down and lacks basic flavor. CAESAR SALAD - fresh, crisp greens, topped with a nice amount of caesar dressing, shreds of parmesan cheese. very good and tasty. SURF & TURF - large, juicy, sweet, steamed to perfection lobster tail and huge bone in rib-eye steak, grilled to order with flavorful seasonings, and a side of delicious vegetables. very good. CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE - very hard but tasty chocolate chip cookie, topped with a scoop of ice cream. much better the next day after the ice cream melts into the cookie to soften it. The owners were so friendly and very passionate about the restaurant. You can tell by the quality of the dishes here. Food: The food was absolutely spectacular! I did not expect much coming here, but my mind was blown away! Each and every person in our group raved about the dish they ordered so I don't think you can go wrong with any of the dishes on the menu! For starters, we ordered the Brussels sprouts, and meatballs to share. For those in the group that were veggies-adverse, the Brussels sprouts were still a hit! The meatballs were so juicy, and flavorful. I'd order both dishes again. I ordered the smoked chicken quarter. The chicken was so tender and seasoned impeccably. The sweet potato puree was the star for me. My husband kept stealing some of the sweet potato puree from my plate! It was so good! I stole some of my husband's order of the meatloaf.
