Dr. Hofmann is an amazing dentist. All the staff here are wonderful. I highly recommend this office.

Dr Hoffman was my dentist for over a decade. **was**. The office and Dr Hoffman have changed and not for the better. I don't live close anymore, so travelling there is not simple. This last year, they really treated my time as something they could waste on more than one occasion. (The last visit, my treatment was delayed for 20+ minutes as he chatted with an ex-employee who stopped by. Never knew pickleball could be discussed in such detail!) The kicker was that I complained of tooth pain for 3 visits; he just sold me special tooth paste then sent me on my way. Whether true or not, my new dentist was very unhappy with a crown Dr Hoffman installed and blamed that for the state of my tooth. A new crown, root canal, and over $3k later, I am pain free. I don't know if Dr Hoffman could have prevented 2 years of discomfort. Or the cost of repair. But he could have taken my complaint seriously and addressed it. read more

Dr. Hofmann is pretty much the best dentist I've ever been to. He's got a small practice, which as it turns out, I like that very much. You can definitely tell that everyone there cares about their patients as individuals; they aren't just trying to churn you through the dental-assembly-line like some other dentists I've been to. Dr. Hofmann takes the time to explain and show you exactly what's going on with your teeth: they have a fancy dental-camera-thingy that's connected to the computer screen in the room so you can easily see the cavity or whatever it is that he wants to talk to you about. And when it is time to grind away at your teeth, they have a personal SiriusXM radio for you to listen to (I'm all about the 90s on 9!) to help drown out the drills. Sadly, I moved away, and as I continue my search for a new tooth doctor, I realize how lucky I was to have such a great dentist (with such a friendly and caring staff, too!!!) over the last 5 years. read more

I am someone who really doesnt enjoy going to the dentist because I had a really bad experience with my childhood dentist growing up. I hadnt been in a few years because of this but decided to try Dr.Hofmann and I am glad I did. Both him and his staff are super friendly and made me feel very comfortable and welcomed. They were gentle and when I was having discomfort from doing all of the xrays (because unfortunately i have a very sensitive mouth lol) they offered me a quick little bit of numbing cream that tasted like yummy pina colada. I had never been treated with such attention and care before and I am so glad I chose Dr.Hofmanns office. read more

Creepy place - I tried to like this guy but I can't!!!! I'm shocked at all the positive reviews. I am far from perfect and have missed a few appointments but I have been a patient for several years now. When they decided to charge me for a missed appointment I decided to move on and I am relieved. The receptionist is passive aggressive and phony. NEVER felt right going in here. I felt judged and looked down on I can't pin point it exactly but so glad I found a dentist in downtown San Carlos I like MUCH better. read more

Nobody likes going to the dentist, but this guy is as good as it could ever get. The staff are all very friendly, as is Dr. Hoffman. They also provide you with headphones and satellite radio while they work on you, which is a pleasant distraction. The particular reason I must hand out the five stars is anecdotal... I went to Dr. Hoffman in part to acquire a night guard, they fitted me for one (this before I even committed to buying it), and I asked what materials this night guard would be made of (mostly to avoid BPA). Rather than simply tell me he didn't know, Dr. Hoffman had his staff call the lab that makes them and find out for me. He then mailed me the sheet detailing all materials used in said night guard. Suffice it to say, Dr. Hoffman and the entire office go out of their way to accomodate. read more

I've been a huge fan of Dr. Hofmann for the entire 10 years I've been living in the Bay Area. I'll be the first to admit that I'd always been squeamish when it comes to dental visits, but not any more. First, Dr. Hofmann is just a great guy and inspires a lot of confidence. That's important! Second, his staff is all top notch. They make you feel welcome and appreciated from the moment you walk in the door. They know how to make a schedule so that you're NOT kept waiting for hours (or even minutes). They respect you and your time. Lastly, Dr. Hofmann has invested in all of the latest, most modern equipment and can perform the latest procedures. You can feel good that you are getting the best treatment available, here. Amazing and wonderful office!! Professional, competent and clean office! I'm especially happy with his honest, sincere and caring candor. I had a filling removed and in the process we found some other problems and I had to make a decision to pull a wisdom tooth or not. Dr. Hofmann explained the options so that I could make an informed decision, I decided to pull it. After the extraction, I had minimal pain and it all healed quickly with no problems. Now we're working on other issues. I definitely feel that I'm in great hands with him and his staff which are just as wonderful. This place has a wonderful positive atmosphere and attitude. Right from the start, Dr. Hofmann and his team has gone above and beyond with their care for me and my teeth. I started coming here in 2008 after avoiding dentistry for years. My previous dentist was rude, and made my entire family wish they never had to go back. However, right at the start, Dr. Hofmann asked about my experiences with previous dentists to make sure he never makes the same mistakes they made. The staff here make me feel welcome every time I'm there, and I have gotten pretty much my entire family into the office at one point or another. Everyone there genuinely cares about patients, and they are more than willing to work around busy schedules. Not open Fridays or weekends, but they will gladly schedule something at a lunch hour or first thing in the morning if that's what works for the patients. I can't imagine going to any other dentist office, and dread the day when the drive to Belmont becomes out of the question. If you need any dental assistance of ANY kind, this is the place to go. If anything, Dr. Hofmann knows exactly who to recommend you to if he is unable to do the job himself. read more

I had a fabulous dentist that unfortunately passed away. His practice was sold to another dentist and I thought that would be fine. Big mistake. That dentist replaced a crown that I still have trouble with today. So I searched for a local dentist for my family who would take the time to make sure everything was exactly right. I'm so fortunate to have found Dr. Hofmann and his fabulous staff! They have done a wonderful job with my very challenging teeth, but have also done a great job with my kids. I have recommending Dr. Hofmann to several of my friends and they are all as happy as I am to have found him. If you are looking for a dentist that is fabulous with both adults and children, takes the time to make sure crowns and fillings fit just right, and has a wonderful staff that is so nice you just want to hang out with them, look no further! read more

He is always on cutting edge technology, for clients and his practice, also stays current with new procedures which other professionals don't have the time to explore. This is a review for the admin staff only! I haven't actually been to this dentist... Admin staff - when I made my appointment, they made sure to phone my insurer, and then called me back to explain my benefits. As a result of their explanation, I found that I wouldn't be covered 100% so chose another provider. I haven't seen such diligence in any of my previous dentists' front desk staff. read more

We live in Pa. but were visiting our daughter in San Mateo when my gums started bleeding profusely. Coincidentally my daughter had her first appointment scheduled with Dr. Hofmann and asked him if I could schedule an appointment sometime soon. When I called in to make an appointment, I was given an appointment the next day! I expected to be rushed in and out between patients. When I arrived at 8:00 am I was warmly greeted... like a long time patient by Dr. Hofmann's staff and then spent an hour in the "chair" being examined, x-rayed, and treated. Dr. Hofmann spent a good part of the hour with me explaining what the issue was and how to best prevent a recurrence. He took a considerable amount of time explaining my x-rays and discussing an issue unrelated to the specific problem I was having. Even though Dr. Hofmann knew it was highly unlikely that he would ever see me again, he went above and beyond in answering my questions, thoroughly explaining everything with diagrams and photos, and never made me feel rushed. My biggest surprise, however, was when I went to take care of the bill, Dr. Hoffman simply accepted my insurance payment without a copay! When I called in today to ask if my x-rays could be emailed to my dentist at home, I again was treated like a long-time patient by Linda, who was more than willing to send the x-rays on. I can't say enough for Dr. Hofmann and his staff. They succeeded in completely turning around a stressful start to our vacation, somehow making bleeding gums into a positive experience! If we ever move out here... not an impossibility after two incredible months in the area!... there is no question who our dentist will be. read more

Dr. Hofmann is great. He doesn't push services on you like I've had with other dentists. He only tells you what you need to have done and to do it on your timeframe when you can. The dental hygienists and Linda at the front desk is great. She works with you to try and find appointment times that will work with your schedule. After relocating to the bay area, my husband and I were dreading finding a new dentist. I read Dr. Hoffman's reviews on yelp and I immediately called. Lets just say he is one of the only dentists with 5 stars. Like most people...I hate going to the dentist. But it is different at Dr. Hoffman's office. Everyone is so nice at his office, from Linda at the front desk to Nicole (dental assistant) to Dr. Hoffman himself. I'm so glad we found him!!! Perhaps the best dentist ever! My wife and I finally gave up our old, boring dentists in SF and embraced our life in the burbs and decided to give Dr. Hofmann a try. All I can say is that if all dentists were like him and his staff, we may all go monthly and like it. Dr Hofmann runs a great practice and really works to make sure you are happy with his services. The office is clean with ample parking and they never seem backed up. His staff is super friendly and happy. His service is great. He explains things in simple terms, tells you exactly what he is doing at all times and is not afraid to ask for feedback on how he could improve things. I recently got fitted for a night mouth guard (don't ask....). Dr Hofmann helped with the fitting and had the guard at his office days later. I came back for a fitting and found that it didn't fit correctly. Dr. Hofmann did another cast and rushed the order. Three days later I came back to find that he had gone ahead and ordered two mouth guards of different types to ensure a fit and make sure I didn't have to come back. Second time was a charm and both guards fit. He let me keep both guards and apologized several times for the hassle. What dentist would actually do that? Bottom line - great guy, great staff, great service. Make him your dentist, you won't be sorry. read more

Dr Hofmann is the best!!! I worked at his office as a dental hygienist and then in January of 2015 I relocated to Arizona... I will never have any other dentist to work on my teeth but him, because over the years working for him I saw the quality and the precision of his work and further I had experienced the most gentle touch when I had some work done.I will always come back to have him to take care of my dental needs, because he is just so extraordinary !!! I was scared when Dr. Hofman took over my old dentist's practice. How lucky we were! He is fabulous!! I am the biggest chicken in the world when it comes to dentistry and I am not the least bit worried when he does ANY procedure (and I've had some interesting work done) Can you imagine a shot that you barely feel, even in the worst locations? Yes, he is that good! Plus, he is a real artist and cares that you leave looking good, so any restorative work is excellent. Although he has modernized the surroundings and equipment, he has kept the excellent staff, all of whom share the same caring attitude towards the patients. In other words, FABULOUS!! I cannot believe I heaven't yelped this place yet! I have been seeing Brett for years-dating back to just after he graduated from dental school. I had LOTS of painful and unhealthy issues going on in my mouth when I started. Nothing but good things to say. I have been going to dr. Hoffman for a few years now for my routine checkups. The office is very clean and seems more 'up to date' than the average medical office. The patients needs and comfort always come first here. Just like most people I avoid the dentist office at all cost but recently I had somewhat of a dental emergency, they fit me in the same day I had called, and Dr. Hoffman really did a top notch job to remedy the situation. read more

Wow...Dr. Hofmann received so many stars he must be out of this world. As a matter of fact, that's the experience I had with him...think "Twilight Zone" theme song! After going to him to have my teeth cleaned, on the recommendation of a friend, he told me that he would not accept me as a continuing patient because he felt we didn't strike up an appropriate rapport. Huh????? Since when is rapport a qualification or even a consideration for working on someones teeth? As a person who is friendly, sociable, outgoing, and who presented myself to Dr. Hofmann in a professional manner, his attitude left me feeling like I was sucker-punched in the stomach. i guess dentists are exempt from the Hippocratic Oath that actual doctors must take, wherein they swear that their utmost concern is the healing of their patients. In fact, isn't it usually difficult to converse with a dentist when your mouth is wide open with all kinds of tools stuffed in it? How does rapport play into this scenario?!!! Well, dear readers, if you decide to give Dr. Hofmann a try, be sure to get your resume up to date as you will be the one being interviewed for the position of patient. If you don't cut muster, be prepared to feel the door slam on your behind as you are sent on your way. If I could give this guy zero stars, I would do it. All of this made me feel like I was in the middle of a Seinfeld episode. I am now an ANTI-DENTITE. read more

Where do I start?? First of all, Dr. Hoffman and his staff are sooo nice, caring, comforting and friendly!! The office is very hip and updated (not like your grandpa's dentist) and just makes you feel good about going to the dentist. I originally went in for a cleaning and was very surprised at all the cool dental gadgets, like a camera that takes pics of your teeth and puts them right up on the screen so you can see what he is seeing in there! It was definitely an eye opener. I have never had a shot in my mouth, only a few small cavities that were filled 20 years ago (in the midwest) and have since been told my teeth are amazing. :-) Well after I saw the pics of what the dentist was seeing, I was almost embarrassed. The old fillings needed to come out and get redone since none of them were even sealed. I was sooooo scared because I was going to have to have a shot in my mouth! Dr. Hoffman and his staff assured me that they would make it as painless as possible as did my friend who had referred me there. I think I am the first person to walk out after having a shot in their mouth with a smile and a thank you ... it wasn't bad at ALL!! I was even ready to go back to get all the others done at the same time - HA! Just got finished last week with the last of the fillings and feel GREAT!!! Not to mention no more yucky silver fillings in my mouth. I can't say enough about Dr. Hoffman and his team ... oh yeah, he also has these glasses you can put on and watch TV in while he is working on your teeth. Dr. H. makes going to the dentist as painless as possible. He uses the most current technologies and products - he walked me through a computer-modeled tooth landscape to consider invisalign v. night guard - it was very cool. The staff is uber-professional and very friendly - they have been very accommodating when scheduling. If you need a dentist, I can't recommend Brett and his team highly enough. read more

Both regularly scheduled appointments and emergencies are treated with same concern and courtesy. I broke a tooth over the weekend and expected to wait several days. Instead I was able to cover a cancelation to be treated on the same day that I called. Fortunately Dr. Hofmann has an inter-oral camera that diagnosed my tooth. On the same visit, he prepped for a crown and I was out the door. His "touch" is light and well paced so that the procedure moved along steadily. Every dental event from the cleanings, to checkups, to crowns have been dealt with in an exceptional manner. No wonder the 5 star ratings! read more

This place is wonderful, Dr. Hofmann and his staff are so professional and kind, and they always have time to listen to all my questions and concerns and answer them thoroughly. The building may not look like much from the outside, but inside it's really nice and everything is super high-tech! I just switched here six months ago , after my last dentist recommended that I get a crown (which I've never had done before), and wouldn't even spend 5 seconds explaining it to me -- she just ran out of the room to her next patient and yelled over her shoulder for me to schedule the appointment with the front desk. Argh! So I came to Dr. Hofmann for a second opinion. They got me an appointment during lunch for the next day, and they took pictures of my teeth and actually spent an hour explaining what a crown is and why I may or may not need one. They also called my insurance before my appointment and told me exactly how much could be covered and how to use my HSA to pay for it. And this was before I was even a patient there -- they were just giving me a second opinion! Well they were so much better than my previous dentist that I switched that day. AND in the end I didn't end up needing a crown, and they were honest enough to say that rather than just taking my insurance money. I just went in for my first cleaning and once again I was very impressed. Dr. Hofmann himself did most of the exam (most dentists have the dental technicians do everything and then just pop in for five seconds at the end), they took pictures of everything and explained how each procedure they did would inform them about my tooth health or gum health. And they have headphones so you can listen to 100 different channels of Sirius radio, or glasses that you can watch TV on. By far the best dentistry experience I've ever had in my life. I can't imagine ever wanting to switch dentists again! read more

I switched Dentist because I had heard good things about Dr. Hofmann and his office. My experiences have been very positive. Brett Hofmann's staff: Linda, Laura, Nicole, Beth, Amy and Karon have been great and made me and my wife feel "at Home". My latest experience was a filling: Nicole put the head phones on me with soft music. When I woke up, I felt great. I noticed that Christine has not had many good experiences. read more

Dr. Hoffman and his staff are the best by far! On a resent Friday evening, my daughter broke a tooth. We left a message for him that night, and were impressed that he called us back that evening. He asked if we could come in the first thing Saturday, a day they are normally closed, and he would see what he could do. He even came in early to turn the heat on so that we would be comfortable. Dr. Hoffman worked his magic and was able to save the tooth and repair it. He went way above and beyond what a normal dentist would have done. We could not be happier. read more
