    Awesome A.

I love craft beer and have been looking forward to the opening of BRET for some time. A collaboration of the folks behind Hannekes Boom and Nordman Beer, this beer cafe and restaurant is going to be awesome! I've been by a few times while it was under construction and on opening day. The menu will focus on sustainability and food that pairs well with beers. They will have beer from local brewers in stock as well as hosting beer events and festivals here. Can't wait! Also they will have food from local purveyors like De IJsmakerij (best ice cream in Amsterdam, people) and Dikke Lepel. Come sit in their garden or on their roof terrace on a sunny day. I was very excited when I saw that they were going to open this new place in Sloterdijk. Let's face it, it is not the most exciting part of town, with mostly office buildings and the occasional tourist staying in one of the hotels in the area. Bret is a breath of fresh air in the area and will most definitely will become a success. Their menu is focus in sustainable/organic products and their beer menu is very very good, with emphasis is local craft beers. This should not come as a surprise as the people behind Bret are the same as the creators of the classic Hannekes Boom. They also have a great garden for the sunny days which I believe they will be using not only for the sunny days but also for hosting beer events.

Food is good. Service is excellent. I had the seitan burger and a starter. Their fennel zucchini soup was very good

I was familiar with croquettes but I have never had the Dutch variety. Needless to say, we were all very happy and full with what we chose. My wife had the beef with artichoke sauce and loved it. My picky 13 year old chose the Dutch shrimp with mustard- mayo sauce and he ate it all. He insisted that I mention that he does not like seafood. Please note that Yelp has the location wrong. I posted a correction and hopefully it is corrected soon.

I've never had a croquette so I was excited to have a Dutch treat--my husband not so much. We walked in and were seated immediately. It appeared that there was only one server so I wasn't sure we would ever get waited on but she was running all over the place and finally got to us. It didn't take too long so I was in awe of her energy. I ordered a veggie croquette and water. It arrived fairly quickly and was delicious. It was served with a delicious salad and bread. Our server checked on us quite a bit while running food back and forth to other tables and taking orders. Again, I was in awe of how she managed to do all that she was doing and keep a smile on her face. We discussed going here for dinner but they were closed so we ended up going to Pont 13 which was great as well.
