Additionally, the reverse gear did not work...the employee told us before departure that the reverse was " a little tricky, it doesn't always take." The reality was that the boat did not operate in reverse and we had to use manpower to avoid running into other boats when we attempted to dock/anchor. This was the most disturbing aspect of the rental because it was a safety risk, never mind the damaged and taped sections. We tried to discuss with Madison Jet Ski, but good luck reaching someone. There is no one to call, and slow or non-responsive to email. As a last resort, we attempted to find resolution with our credit card company, but were presented with legalese that we signed away any recourse in event of a complaint. Buyer beware, you have to sign off on everything BEFORE you take the boat out. Once you get on the water and discover any issues, you're stuck. My attempts at recourse began in July, and it is now mid-October. I will not waste any more of my valuable time dealing with this company, but it is my hope that sharing my experience will help others avoid the same fate. You can do better than Madison Jet Ski and your ~$700 with other firms on Lake Mendota or Monona.

Day of, the owner doesn't flinch at my mistake. He quickly corrected where I dropped the ball and it didn't seem to interrupt his operation. The Sugar river is a blast. Smaller and more technical than the nearby Wisconsin River. PLUS! There's some killer breweries, tacos, cocktail bars, & a live music venue to welcome you back once you're off the river. 100% would recommend and will most certainly use Sugar River Outfitters again.

However, the front desk and administration is quite poor. They frequently would not have people able to take phone calls during business hours leading to many phone calls going unanswered. The biggest problem is that they don't manage accounts well. Since we joined a private pool for the summer, we had cancelled lessons for one of our kids (the other had already been cancelled) at the end of May, which was too late to cancel for June as they billed for the next month on the 20th of the month prior. That's fine. Though, it was quite the process to cancel. We tried to cancel in person at the end of a lesson with the desk worker. They told us that they would put in a request to a supervisor to see if we're able to cancel. What?! They ended up telling us we were unenrolled, but that's quite a bizarre way to manage accounts. Whatever, we continued through June and planned to be done at the end of that month. One of the weeks during the month of June, we asked to switch the lesson to another time that week, which was a fairly standard request and which they did. Fine. However, what they didn't tell us is that they then instead re-enrolled him for that time slot going forward. So, to our surprise, we got a tuition charge for the month July on June 20th, which we didn't notice for a week or two. We called and asked what happened. They admitted that they re-enrolled when we asked to change the lesson time for that one week. The desk person said they would have a supervisor look into fixing it. We waited a week or so. Nothing. We called again and left messages. Eventually, they said they credited our account for that month. We said, "No, we unenrolled, we don't want a credit, we wanted a refund as it was your mistake." They said they would make that correction. Okay. We kept checking calling about once a week to no avail. No answer, no returned calls. Fast forward to July 20th while we wait for them to resolve it. We get billed again for the month of August! We noticed it right away as we were waiting to get refunded. We called again and actually got a hold of someone. They apologize and told us a supervisor would look into it as well as the charge on June 20th. On June 31st they refunded just the charge on July 20th but not the one on June 20th. We call again on August 1st, no answer, no return message. We call a few more times to no avail. Then, on August 20th we get some random charge of $25. Ugh. We have no idea what's going on. I suppose we'll just have our credit card block all charge from them. Moral of the story, DO NOT GO HERE. This is basically stealing, right?

We spent over two hours playing with our young grandchildren at the free water park - open 10am-7pm. Lots of water features to keep kids cool on a summer day geared toward kids up to about age 10 or so. Picnic benches and shade available. Next to the water park is an area of padded Astroturf with a slide and climbing net. The water park also has a section for toddlers with a gentle stream of water for the really young children to play in. The snack bar opens later and has a limited selection of treats and drinks so I'd recommend bringing your own snacks and drinks for you and your kids. For the adults, there's a nice coffee shop across the street that also sells pastries and beer. Fishing and swimming activities for older kids, teens, and adults are available at the beach area and lake - open 1-6pm ($2-$5 dollar entry fee, pay with cash or check only). Nice basketball courts here also.

I called Capital Boat Club and…read morerequested a boat rental reservation, I spoke to Paul and he would not take my reservation and directed me to their website where I placed a reservation for a boat in early June of 2022 for July 1, 2022. I arrived for my reservation one hour early for the reservation and was told I didn't provide a Wisconsin license and they could not rent the boat. I asked them to cancel the reservation and they refused and charged my credit card for the rental. It would have been very helpful if they required a Wisconsin license prior to accepting the rental. I would also add Paul was extremely rude and not certain how he feels justified to charge for a service that was never provided. If you are looking to rent a boat in Madison, you should pass on Capital Boat Club.
