A recent addition is the B-bike electric bike rentals. I also have seen guys fishing along the small canal. Across the street is the bait and ice cream shop which is handy in many regards. They serve the typical hot dogs, burgers and Babcock ice cream. Once a month in summer they hold beer garden events with bands. Another plus. A nice community asset.

There are walking paths that take you alongside the water front and back around to the condos and up to Monroe, but it is not for much beyond a short leisurely stroll. j The grounds were well kept and clean, as were the docks, pathways and other areas. There is dedicated parking at the entrance, but also plenty of nearby street parking. While Wingra Park is not the largest or best equipped park in Madison, the lake provides a cute backdrop and the field provides the perfect place to relax and hang out. We made two passes around before heading back to Monroe and popping into the local tavern that is essentially connected to the park. Overall, Wingra Park is a quaint spot in Madison and I can dig it!

It is part of Henry Vilas Park, which also includes the free zoo (just across the street) and recreation area. It's sandy area is very small, and there is a marked swimming area. There is a small building with restrooms. The park has paved angled parking, which pretty empty on this weekday. My goal was to pick up some sand to remember my daughter going to school and growing up in the area. Mission accomplished.

It is pretty small compared to other beaches, but it is free which is nice. The sandy part got filled pretty quickly, but there is a little grassy area were able to sit by. There wasn't really any parking around the area, but you might be able to snag a spot by the zoo. The water was shallow, so if you have younger children, this might be a good option. Overall, it is definitely a decent beach to spend a couple hours after walking around the zoo.

Ahuska is a rare find for it being right in the heart of town. You can rent the pavilion to hold an event with seating in both the shade & sun, prep area indoors. The bathrooms always seem to have soap, paper towel, and a mirror. Most public parks are short on at least one of these amenities. Bathrooms are open earlier than Memorial Day too! While you can hear the beltline behind the fields, it can't be seen after mid May given the lush treeline & berm. The playground is well placed next to the baseball field, which appears to be the most used field & what I come for. This is pretty rare but kind of allows for watching a little person while watching a game. Cherry on top? Farmer's Market on Sundays! One stop for a coffee, pastry (entire bag of cheese bread), and hanging at a park. Check it out.
