I stumbled across this gem from a ClassPass membership and quickly knew it was where I wanted to stay. I was sick of bouncing around trendy-licious gyms that are all flash & no substance, and Beantown Bootcamp gave me exactly what I was looking for. This gym has a community of seriously incredible athletes that push you to be better & have a good time doing it. From the traditional classes to intensive small group classes, I always leave this gym sweating more than I thought humanly possible & with a huge smile on my face. Worth every penny.

There is a shower but you bring your own towels and also bring your own water to drink, there wasn't much left as they don't have a bubbler but just a gallon bottle. Lightest weight there is 12lbs. For such a small race it was very well organized and just an overall nice event. Here's why this race was so great: - Nice looking, navigable website with all the right information. - Packet pick-up took place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning at the restaurant (Tory Row) and was very well run. - The course was basically flat with some rolling hills and went through a cute little Cambridge neighborhood, starting and ending right in Harvard Square. - Nice drawstring SWAG bag and a shirt that can pass in everyday life! - Used the chip timing system (surprising for a small race). - Text message and email sent to runners with time about 5 minutes after finish. The best part of the race was the after party, which took place in a parking lot right near the finish line. The party featured unlimited (yes, really!) beer and cider for all participants -- and good beer too! There was also tons of orange slices, bananas, granola bars, energy bites and water to go around. I'm surprised how much I enjoyed this race and I look forward to next year's!

The group classes are super- the trainer/owner Bobby keeps things moving and does a super job combining strength with overall conditioning. He listened to my goals and was able to tweak things. I had NO clue what I was doing, but that wasn't a problem. We started on the basics and form/safety. The other people in the classes are awesome, and range from newbies to really experienced athletes. It's a really fun environment where everyone motivates each other. After a couple months of the classes, I'm now trying individual training that has a martial arts focus. Bobby definitely did his research on my sport and caters the workouts 100% towards better performance. The prices may be a little higher than the big chain fitness centers, but you are paying for extremely high quality training and guidance. Totally worth it!!

Shortly after moving to the area I walked into the SBC and was greeted by the owner Bobby. Before discussing prices or anything of the such he gave me a walking tour of the facilities and asked me questions about myself and what I hope to achieve. His interest in his clients and members is genuine. He also does personal training sessions and you can tell from the man's physique he knows what he's talking about. So listen up. The facilities are perfect for improving yourself in anyway you see fit. Here you will NEVER have to wait for a squat rack haha. The gym's equipment definitely caters to the strongman/powerlifting/Olympic lifting crowd but it's not at all intimidating. Bobby has instilled a culture of family and respect. It's a very close community that you will be accepted into almost immediately. Even if I don't know the person someone is always ready and willing to give me a spot or give me some advice. There is also an on site Physical Therapist/Trainer named Brett. After dislocating my shoulder I wanted to get back into lifting heavy so I had a consultation with Brett. He set me down and went over my medical history, went through an examination of range of motion and strength. Then he proceeded to show me exercises to ease back into the lifting world and make sure I don't risk reinjury. It's been a year since the injury and so far so good. Brett also does training seminars and has a YouTube channel you should subscribe to. Also occasionally Bobby/Brett will bring in there dogs. Deadlifts & dogs? Can you ask for anything better? There is no other gym I would rather train at than SBC. It simply has the best equipment, community and personnel.

The instruction is great, there are classes morning noon and night to accommodate any schedule and the culture is so positive and supportive. If u are new to BJJ the structured curriculum will guide u in starting the journey. Invictus is built around learning, open-mindedness, and respect for the evolution of the sport. Nate leads by example, constantly encouraging exploration of different styles and techniques rather than forcing a "one-size-fits-all" approach while maintaining a structured class with high percentage moves. The environment strikes the perfect balance: it's competitive enough to push you to improve, but not so much that it leads to injury. As a beginner, I've never once felt out of place. The training partners here are top-tier, technical, tough, but incredibly generous with their knowledge and genuinely invested in helping each other grow. You feel like part of a team from the moment you step on the mats.

I must have driven by BodyBurn about a billion times before finally giving it a try. I remember…read moreseeing that it was a personal training gym for a while and then suddenly it looked like a club from the outside. A friend of mine became a fan and convinced me to give it a try too. One class and I was hooked! The BodyBurn 1.0 class utilizes motorless cardio machines and strength sets to get you sweaty and basically just want to lay down and die at the end of the class. The cardio machines range from your basic bike and row machine to the coolest climbing wall and ski erg. If you are a new to fitness and this sounds daunting, don't worry. You don't have to be an Olympic athlete to be able to do this stuff. If you are super fit and want a challenge, you can get that here too. There are ways to tailor it to make it a great workout for whatever level you your fitness level. And the best part? The instructors don't make you feel like a big ol' baby when you get nervous on the climbing wall and decide to take it to climb up it rather than run up it like the dude (my husband) that was on it before you. As a matter of fact, they are just encouraging (and not in that really annoying way that some group fitness instructors can be). There is also a BodyBurn 2.0 class that focuses less on cardio and more on strength using weights and TRX. I haven't had a chance to take those classes but it is on my To Do list. In addition to a good class they seem to be interested in building a whole community. They are active on Instagram, have unique sections on their app and seem to remember every client's name. The *only* critique I have of this studio is the price/class packages. Drop-in classes are $30 (first class is $15) and they have some X number of class packages and monthly memberships. If you want to go several times a week, you are looking at almost $300/month. I don't know why, but once you get over the $225 range for monthly membership, I can't justify it in the budget. This critique isn't enough for me to give it 4 stars though. I'm sticking with the 5! Note: I've never had any pressure to sign up for a membership. I've taken 2 other people with me and they haven't had any either. (FINALLY a place that gets it!) Go. Sweat. Enjoy!

Twelve weeks later, I've lost almost 35 pounds, am down two sizes, and feel amazing: I truly have more energy and strength now than the last time I was "fit" (at 50); I feel almost as good physically as I did in my 30s, when I was slim and a runner; and I have learned so much.
