As someone who is an introvert and struggles with confidence (especially in the gym) the coaches go the extra mile to make me feel comfortable and prepared for each workout by providing modifications and words of encouragement! During COVID-19 I have had some of my biggest gains in virtual WODS with the chance to work on skills like pushups and double unders. While I am still transitioning back to the gym in person full time I have attended a few outdoor classes. CityLine continues to prioritize and maintain the health and safety of all their members while putting you through a hard workout and building community at the same time. I look forward to the at home WODS and going in to the gym every chance I get!

They will correct you if your form needs adjustments and will really encourage you throughout the class. I loved the culture where you have a circuit and if you finish earlier than your peers you cheer them on until they finish. I also want to give a special shout out to Coach Laurel who introduced me in the beginning of class to give me a warm welcome. She remembered that I was visiting from Long Beach and was here for the week in Boston and traveling to Vermont. I highly recommend to anyone who is interested in CrossFit. The coaches, Mark and Jack bring over 20 years of experience in fencing. From what I've observed, they break down complex techniques in a fun and engaging way, providing a truly supportive, pressure free community. They provide all the gear needed and will have a small competition amongst their classmates at the end of the course; a valuable experience for youth to apply what they've learned and observe the progress that they and their teammates have made through some friendly competition. He roams around to let you know how you are doing- though I'm still not sure if I was doing the exercises correctly... Older equipment but not a dirty gym. There is a shower but you bring your own towels and also bring your own water to drink, there wasn't much left as they don't have a bubbler but just a gallon bottle. Lightest weight there is 12lbs. Location is in the building basement that can be accessed on the door to the left when you enter lobby.

My go-to class is Tread to Shred (also known as Tread Tabata) with Cara. There are 3 stations - cardio, jump rope, and floor - and you cycle through them 3 times each, tabata-style (20 seconds on, 10 seconds off) for a total of 45 minutes. When signing up for the class, you choose either a treadmill or an elliptical/bike for cardio. Cara always mixes up the exercises at the jump rope and floor stations so you never have the same class twice, and alternates between body weight exercises and using free weights so you end up with a fantastic full body workout, blasting all the muscles you didn't even know you had. This class is not easy, but it flies by! I always walk out feeling confident and rejuvenated, albeit on shaky legs. The studio itself...well it's certainly not the fanciest or the most modern or the cleanest. If that's what you're looking for, look elsewhere. But if you're looking for a kickass workout with a fantastic instructor and a convenient location, look no further. Though I wouldn't be disappointed if they replaced the treadmills so I don't feel like it's going to explode underneath me while I crank out high speeds :P

I came on a Sunday morning women's training class for my first class. There was a group of women,…read moresome with their daughters who have been consistently coming to train for a few years. The instructor showed me around to the locker room and informed me of the directions of bowing and greetings other as I got on the mat. There were a few warmups that were a little tricky to do, but with practice it gets better. After the warmup exercises, we were paired up to do some partner drills, and then ended the class with a couple of quick matches. This was definitely a good workout and helps you understand your body awareness in relation to others around you. It's a very close contact sport and definitely good a good workout. I would definitely recommend trying it out at least once and would love to back and try one of their gi classes to see the difference.

I did this race this year and the RD was extremely rude. I have been having lung issues all summer…read moredue to air pollution so had a slow race. Even though there was no stated time limit the RD basically packed away almost all of the finish line, ran out of medals promised to all finishers and packed away all the finish line food and water bottle. The RD did not cheer me on as I finished and was very rude. I have completed about 300 races and never had a finish line experience this awful. I also want to note that while I was pretty slow I was not last so multiple runners got this awful treatment. I would never recommend anyone support this RD who does not support all runners

One of my favorite races ever! I've done the ten miler at Yankee Homecoming for the past two years…read more(there is also a 5K option). The race starts at Newburyport High School, then runs into the downtown area of Newburyport and along the waterfront. There are crowds of spectators in this area at the town's Yankee Homecoming celebration with concerts, food vendors and more. The second half of the race winds through beautiful, shady country roads, past open pastures and lush greenery. It finishes at the high school again, where there are sprinklers, freeze pops and cold water to refresh after the summer heat. Parking can be somewhat of a challenge at this race, so arrive early for street parking, or park at the middle school behind the high school and leave enough time for a short walk. This is a race I'll do every year - an awesome summer tradition!
