My boyfriend and I did the Kidnapping room today and it was so fun! It was both of our first times doing an escape room and it was awesome. Nita, our game master, did a great job answering all of our questions, and prodding is when we got stuck with simple statements and encouragement. It was definitely a challenging room, especially for only two people (our time ran out when we hit the last clue, sadly) but not impossibly difficult. This was our second time going to an escape room, this one was the best. We did the room kidnaped. We were impressed with the set up of the place and the staff. It was different because it started off with all of us blindfolded and handcuffed!!! We did not escape but we got to the last clue. It was a family of 5 to include 2 adults, a college kid and 2 teens. I do think it was for all ages. I like that this place had unlimited clues and you are not penalized with each clue request. As a family we love puzzles, mysteries, CSI shows and research. I honestly think we overthought many of the clues ( slowed us down). The game master was awesome, quick to respond and pleasant the whole time. He seemed very knowledgeable. We went on a weeknight, which we found 10% off and there was no crowd or wait. This was my 6th escape room experience and while this location had many rooms to offer I feel like the Kidnapping Room was rather lackluster. Maybe some of the others are better, but my group is somewhat experienced with escape rooms and we all agree that this was the worst so far. The only novel aspect was being blindfolded at the start, though the handcuffs were very easy to get out of too. Otherwise what did the room consist of? Six different 4-number combo locks, a 3-number combo lock, and 4 keypads (including the exit). Booooorrrrrriiiinnnnnggggg. Ok, so the mag-lock that caused the thingy to drop from the ceiling, that was cool, but again, just another lock. Storyline wise, this was boring, and nothing fit together. There were very few "helper clues" that gave just a tiny hint of information to point you in the right direction. I didn't feel like certain items by previous prisoners (not trying to do spoilers here) were fully enmeshed into the storyline. The room was also tiny, very tiny. I felt that the whole "find 4 digit number, try to guess WHICH lock to use it on, open safe, find next boring clue" concept got worn out pretty quickly. The staff was friendly, but seemed tired and battle-worn, gave all the normal pleasantries but otherwise it was "Collect Money, In, Out, Thanks". Edit: after reading Shelly S.'s review I agree that this is a very LAZY set up. And to think that this room is at least 2 years old? Time for a replacement guys! read more

This place is absolutely amazing for any occasion. I did the Island Escape which was absolutely fantastic. Though we didn't finish in time it was still a wonderful experience. Everyone is so nice and polite. When my group was stuck on a clue and didn't understand how to move on, the person in charge of our session, Tilly, was so helpful, polite, and patient with us. This was so much fun but I had no idea how hard it would be! Lol it was just two people in my group and we ended up not completing the game. However, we noticed that all the larger groups won. So I would definitely go with at least 3 people so that it's more people finding clues and brainstorming to figure out riddles or whatever. The game we did was "Do Not Disturb" and I think it was very well put together with the clues and everything worked like it was supposed to. We had unlimited help so that definitely helped us figure out a lot of the really difficult clues. The staff were super friendly. Kalilah facilitated our game and she was such a nice girl. Very professional and helpful. I recommend this place but I would like to recommend to Breakout to get some coupons on Groupon like the other escape rooms. We wanted to bring our family back this Sunday but it's expensive without a groupon so we're going to another escape room for a group of 8 because they have a Groupon! We would have loved to come back to Breakout! read more

Great group and critical thinking activity. Our group did the kidnapping game. It was challenging but you do get unlimited clues. There is nothing unsafe or truly frightening (no physical contact, such as things/people grabbing you). Truly a great mental exercise. We had a blast and will return! read more

If you've never played an escape room game, you're missing out on great fun. If you've never played at Breakout Games (Timonium location), you're missing out on the best escape room games around! On October 18, seven of us went to Breakout Games in Timonium to celebrate three October birthdays. For most of us, this was our 2nd visit. On our first visit, we played Runaway Train. Although we lost, the game was so much fun, we decided to go back to try one of the other games. This visit, we played Hostage - a game scenario where your flight has been hijacked and everyone in your group taken hostage. The game was exciting and intriguing. It began with everyone in the group handcuffed and trapped together in a room. We had to search the room to discover and decipher clues that would help us unlock the handcuffs and ultimately break out of the room. It's my guess that this is one of Breakout's harder escape room games and it's full of interesting surprises due to the way they use technology to enhance the challenges in this particular game room. Unlimited clues is one of the best features of the Breakout Games and our game master, Adam, was excellent at providing the right clue each time we asked for one. Adam knew exactly how to nudge us in the right direction. He kept us thinking and moving forward and he helped to make this game so much fun!!! I especially like escape rooms for date nights and birthday celebrations, but they're a good choice anytime you want to do something special with family or friends. Additionally, there are some good restaurants nearby the Timonium location. We enjoyed lunch at BlueStone - a restaurant with excellent food and reasonable prices. read more

We've had two great experiences at Breakout Games in Timonium! On our first trip, we escaped the Casino room with the excellent guidance of Andrew. Andrew did a great job explaining the concept as this was our first escape room and made our time at Breakout a great experience! Our second room was great as well - as we escaped "Museum Heist" with the awesome guidance of Amie. Both Amie and Megan were wonderful in helping us out during and after (see photo). I really had a great time. Took my boyfriend for his bday on Feb 15th. We have never did an escape room. The staff was really really nice and informative. We did the kidnapping room. I have anxiety issues lol so I was nervous about being blindfolded and handcuffed even tho i knew in my mind it's all for fun but I was a trooper and went along with it. U really have to use your brain for sure lol. That hour went sooooooooo fast and u get a rush from each code u crack. Unfortunately we didn't escape on time and when the staff member came in to show us what we didn't accomplish I said dag we needed alot more time! Lol All in all it was a great experience and id def go again. read more

Breakout Games in Timonium is great on many levels. The staff members (including our room monitor Megan) are friendly, accommodating, and very attentive. The place is clean and set-up well. The rooms are large. The best thing about this business/location is the quality of the games. I played the Casino one. The mission is clear and the puzzles are linked in an organized and well thought out way. This room is so much more than just a bunch of locks; there is a physical aspect to it because of tasks that you have to complete. I won't say any more to spoil the fun. I will definitely be back to try the other games. read more

Having done 30+ rooms across the U.S this is within the bottom five. We signed up the Kidnapping room and played with another group. While I didn't enjoy the group we played with that in no way is factored into the two star review. The props and puzzles didn't fit the theme of the room and didn't feel like a complete experience. I'm a firm believer that all props, puzzles, clues and locks should fit into the theme of the room and this room felt like a lazy set up. Lock after lock make the game boring. I wouldn't recommend this room. read more

We did the Hostage room and had a blast. It was the first time to an escape room for three of us - second time for the other three. It was totally engaging, and it really took all six of us to figure it out. We needed a few clues, and our game master gave great hints - pointing us in the right direction without giving too much away. We had 4 adults and 2 kids (ages 11 and 9) and made it out with a minute and a half to spare. We were all really impressed with the variety and cleverness of the puzzles.
