When Maria told me she was working as an agent for Kemp Travels... I knew that she would now be my go to for all my travel needs. My recent vacation; Feb 6-13th, 2018 was booked last year. Maria has followed up with me on a professional level throughout this time to advise me of promotional perks that she was able to add to my booking... something I would have never known had she not been attentive and also remember clients she already made bookings for. Closer to the date she would follow up with me to ensure I did have additional personal requests I wanted to add... and go through the pros/ cons. About a week before leaving, we touched based on the phone just so she can personally wish us a great time. The whole experience was very professional and I felt that true caring to make sure our vacation would be spectacular. I appreciate the special add ons she did knowing it was my husband's birthday and a repeat Melia guest... getting us some upgrades and bottle of rum.... that was waiting for us upon our arrival. My boyfriend and I decided that for our first cruise we would use a travel agent to make things…read moreeasier. Unfortunately, I wish we did it all ourselves. Our travel agent expected us to sit with him for hours while he researched the different options we could take. He first suggested the Royal Caribbean which was twice the price of Carnival Cruises. As young adults, the Carnival Cruise had the perfect amount of things to do for the perfect price. We had to suggest this to him instead. Then With our credit card information in his hand we believed we could leave him to pick the best option not only in our budget but for comfort as well. Instead he decided to choose the first thing available. This included our flight which involved a transfer on the way to our port and one on the way back leaving us in transit for 18 hours on the way home. When we were flying back we could see the other available options to travel straight back in a timely manner that he did not look up. He also told us he would pre-pay our gratuities for the cruise ship so it would not be a surprise. However when checking with guest services, already abroad, we learned that we would have an unexpected charge of atleast $200 because it was, in fact, not pre-paid. He booked an airport shuttle from our cruise to the airport without consulting us first. He booked the wrong hotel when he suggested the right one. I could've planned this myself and known for a fact what would be expected. When we told him about the surprise gratuity fees he agreed he had made a mistake but said there was nothing he could do. I will not be back.
