Silly incompetent bureaucrats with their heads stuffed where the sun never shines…read more It used to function -barely. In spite of having dozens of hard working creative professionals on contract - (meaning they dont pay them, provide no benefits, and almost no administrative support) they manage to destroy successful community programs they didn't have to lift a finger to create. You show up to your program you paid for weeks in advance to find a private party instead. Absolutely no respect for their customers or contractors. Double booked facilities, malfunctioning enrollment system, inaccurate information, you name it, they can f it up.

We called South Pas to ask what their classes were like and were assured that children not only pick up new skills, but they leave class tired and ready for some quiet time. Awesome. We decided to sign up for two classes based on the recommendation of the rec department. The course we recently attended was Mini Sports Blitz. "45 minutes of games and activities" says the catalog, except for one major problem...the children are active for maybe 5 to 7 minutes each 45 minute session. What does this mean? That the kids wait in ridiculous lines or take turns 1 at a time to participate (recent example: about 15 kids waited 15 minutes to use a bat once on a t-ball stand. They were instructed on how to hit the ball, and run around the bases. There was 1 bat and 1 stand.) So what do the other kids do while they wait so long? Stand around, play with mom or dad, sit, take off, some parents play catch with another ball, go to the playground nearby - for 15 minutes! That's an awfully long time as an adult to wait, and we're talking 2 to 3 year olds...such a waste. While the instructor, Andy, seems nice, he's not volunteering his services. He hardly seems to understand a toddler's developmental needs in a group setting and how the kids should be active most of the class time - he could easily break up the kids into smaller groups, bring in more equipment, or just in case he has to make do with the what he already has, concurrently work on two or more different activities in different areas, and recruit help from all the parents that otherwise stand around doing very little. Cost: $50 for 4 classes. What does this break down to? About $2 per minute of activity. My massages are cheaper! Eek indeed! Is it possible for Andy to reflect on his instruction and notice that the only person moving around and talking the entire time is him? Remember though, this is the 2nd class through SP Rec Services, and similarly low skilled instructors keep the kids active for 10% of the time for the same reason. This is apparently an issue that needs to be addressed within the department either by going to the classes to observe and see how much activity on the kids part is actually taking place, or with a parent survey that addresses this area specifically. Otherwise, this is as good as it gets in South Pas and you'd be better off driving further out to enroll for classes in Arcadia or San Marino, or even to the closest park near you, for free.

I wondered, would they actually teach her something or would they artfully make what used to be my money theirs, leaving her not much more skilled than when she entered? Well, I was pleasantly surprised. In their Beauty segment, they demand that students be on time, professionally dressed, properly geared and ready to go when class begins. As part of the instruction, they discussed invoicing and tax issues and required, before the completion of the segment, that each student have their own website up and ready to promote their newly developed skills. For their Special Effects segment the dress code's relaxed but students are required to learn skills handling foam, fiberglass, plaster, paints, and flammable resins. And if you're disruptive or don't take the program seriously or refuse to arrive on time and ready to go you may be expelled without a refund as one of my daughter's classmates was. During a time when demanding petty, stupid accommodation seems to be in vogue I love that the program demands a little something from the students and in the most extreme situations will send them home if they refuse to behave like adults. And if the cost seems too much, scholarships are available. We got one from Mike Rowe!

If you can't conform to their expectations, you're left vulnerable to bullying, exclusion, and other toxic behaviors from both staff and students. Should you speak up, you're likely to be cast as the problem--just to preserve the school's carefully curated image of exclusivity and superiority. It's disheartening to consider what this attitude is doing to the industry at large. For me, it's become motivation to pursue an independent path--ironically, something they often actively discourage to keep you dependent and doubting yourself.

Luckily from a yelp search I found this place, and so glad that I did. I was able to sign up for the Sunday class and the price was actual lower than the place I used to go to. The online sign up process was easy and I got my confirmation right away. The place was right on the corner where Huntington curves and easy to spot even when the gps tries to take you the wrong way. There is ample parking in the back. The class was already set up and they had bathrooms available as well. Andrew was an awesome instructor. He was to the point, funny, and made sure everyone understood and stopped after each segment to see if anyone needed him to go over anything again. The test was given at the end and graded right there. The ecard is then emailed. I highly recommend this course here and will take it again when needed. Because of this LVN program I was able to use it as a stepping stone and got into an RN program with a concurrent BSN partnership. I've used all my skills and notes that I've learned in the LVN program and my current RN program has been a breeze thanks to how much the LVN program prepared me. I'm honestly going to be forever grateful. I love how affordable this program was and how it was not a financial burden on me compared to other programs. A lot of people are hesitant of continuing on their education due to the lack of money (this should not be a factor on who gets an education and who doesn't) but this is a great program to open doors to many of us including myself to change our lives for the better !!! I passed my NCLEX 1st try and got an amazing job that I love all thanks to the amazing teachers that made up the LVN program.

I took the orientation class a few months prior, and the staff is very kind and welcoming. The students are also just as friendly, and you get to know them and socialize a lot in class. They recently brought back the pharmacy technician program, and have a bunch of other trades. I like how it's connected to other schools in the area under LAUSD. So far, it's been a very positive experience, and can't wait to be an official student.
