    fried chicken & gravy
    Dan R.

Been a couple years but they're still delicious and generous. fine chicken and gravy, plenty of well0rowned potatoes, eggs a little cool and also the biscuit, But it is a hefty biscuit. Different set-up as you order at the counter then they beep you to come up when your plate's ready. (The place also serves as a good pick-up for 6 or so other "restaurants.") Friendly service, well-lit place. Scott got their basic breakfast also with generous portions, like4 sausage links. Good windows, light and colorful photographs

My friend brought me here for a brunch let me say, I am not a breakfast person but this place right here, was cute. It did what it was supposed to do. The food was delicious but could use a little more seasoning. I enjoyed my waffle and the bacon was chefs kiss. Upon finding an ant in my drink they could had done a better job at customer servicing but instead my drink was dump out and remade. Like what happened to "ma'm let's give you an extra drink"... sorry for your troubles; lol wishful thinking

It's awesome to see the collaboration between Bread and Ink Cafe with Waffle Window. You order at the front, sit down, and bust yourself. The brisket hash was hearty. The farm fusion wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be given the thrown on spinach and cherry tomatoes. It's nice that there was vegan batter though . Definitely popular on a Sunday!

We were headed to a highly rated and popular Italian restaurant on Valentine's Day for a light dinner before a concert at Artichoke Music. But, because parking on/around Hawthorne is atrociously difficult we had to park several blocks away. As we began our several block walk, we spied Bread and Ink, and made the spontaneous decision to eat there instead. And, we're so glad we did. The pesto rotini with grilled chicken was delicious. The fruit salad was equally delicious. We very much appreciated the low noise level, that's uncommon these days, which allowed us to converse in a normal tone of voice. The staff was friendly and prompt.

They were open and not busy around 10:25am on a Saturday, so we stopped in for food. The food is American diner quality and not something I would go out of my way to return for. The hashbrowns were very thin and dry, the ELO scramble was bland, didn't even taste pepper in it at first bite. The waffle was messy for a kid, the PB never firmed up leading me to believe it's PB sauce, but she loved every bite. They are not a table service restaurant. You order at the till, get a number and find a table, and pick the food up from the counter. It's more cafeteria feels to it than restaurant feels..

    Biscuits and gravy

This place really surprised me. Everybody's super nice and it was really quiet. But that's what makes my head waitresses a little quirky but that's what makes it fun. I totally expected this to be one of those half-assed breakfast joints that charges top dollar because they're in the Hawthorne district. What an amazing surprise. They're biscuits and gravy is some of the best I've ever had in Portland. Better than grits and gravy, better than gravy over on Mississippi Even better than pine State. They make their biscuits fresh every morning and they're gravy fresh everyday. My wife got the Caesar salad with chicken and they actually have anchovy in the Caesar salad, you know, like a real Caesar salad. The chicken was grilled over what looked like charcoal and was phenomenal. I can't recommend this place enough. Give it a try

Food was yummy! Ordered an omelette with spinach and mushrooms with a side of cheesy hash browns and whole grain bread. Let me tell you..... it was so filling and delicious. Austin ordered a ham and cheese waffle that came with bacon and eggs. Food came out pretty fast. It was difficult to find parking on this street considering there's so many breakfast cafes but we got lucky and stumbled upon this restaurant. Def glad we came in & hope to visit when back in Portland

This is a casual eatery with lots of sweet & savory waffles to choose from. You order at the counter, pick up your food yourself, and bus your own tables. My son had chicken & waffle--both the chicken and waffle were cooked to perfection but the flavor was just a tad bland. I had a sweet waffle with caramel sauce, bananas, ice cream, and whipped cream. It was very good!

A cute dining area! The smell of waffles is immaculate as soon as you walk in. You place your order at the front & they give you a buzzer as soon as your food is ready, then you're good to go! I ordered the Green tea mint lemonade and it was very refreshing! I also ordered the Liege waffles with fresh strawberries and lemon curd and lettt me tell you. It was an explosion of fruity goodness! 7/10. Would definitely come back!

Dungeness Crab Eggs Benedict. Highly recommend! Tons of real crab.

Had the Dungeness Crab Eggs Benedict this morning. Tons of fresh crab on it. The owner was lovely. Had an excellent sense of humor. The restaurant was quite clean. The food came out quick, hot and fresh. I highly recommend this joint!

The cheese and crack sundae has toasted marshmallow, chocolate, and cinnamon cracker crumbs. Omg the cinnamon crumbs are so good, that with the ice cream was really yummy (I'm a simple girl what can I say). The chocolate hardened into a chocolate shell and it was kind of only on the bottom of the cup so that was a little disappointing. The toasted marshmallow didn't add much, but maybe I'm biased bc I don't rlly care for toasted marshmallow ‍ Overall, the entire sundae is mainly a ton of vanilla ice cream. It's a big portion that I shared with someone else. Second time I went, I got the banana pudding sundae which was soooo good. I shared this with my friend and it was plenty. They give a good amount of banana pudding and you can tell it's quality. I saw bananas, the bread/wafer part, and it pairs nicely with the ice cream. Prob my favorite thing from this place. My other friend got the pbo which was also good. They layer oreo and peanut butter pudding so you get it all throughout the sundae which is nice. She also got an everything cookie which has literally everything in it. It was texturally interesting and not too sweet! Overall, good flavors and quality ice cream. The portions are a bit big and I wish they had half or even quarter sizes since these came in huge cups. At a certain point, the vanilla ice cream becomes flavorless bc there's so much of it but the sundaes were still pretty good!

For two people we paid $150 with tip, and that was without desserts and coffee. Things of note from a Friday night summer visit to this place that's been there four years now: High-end presentation. The plating is top level and each thing they place in front of you is like a sculpture or work of art. Nice energy, not at all too loud. They have acoustic tiles on the ceiling and on the concrete floor added a runner that echos the curve of the large bar, which helps. Portion size looked nice and generous from examples of things we saw being brought to tables, such as the salad and focaccia. Best appetizers were fried cauliflower and the asparagus dish w/ the eggs (which would be even better if warm). The one fish entree is the sablefish (ours was underseasoned) that's brought out on thin piece of cedar with edges still slightly charred. It comes with nothing else on the plate so plan accordingly. Just inside the door they have a little snack/pantry curated market of sorts, where you can linger while waiting for seating and can buy things like a cute little bottle of honey for $20 or a colorful crocheted wall hanging basket for $70. Lots of good natural light because of the walls of floor to ceiling windows. Option of ample seating indoors and outdoors because it's a corner location. Cautionary note: We saw and heard a lunatic in hoodie who, at 6pm on a Friday night, walked up to one of the unoccupied outdoor tables and flipped it over, causing the plates and glasses to fly in the air and shattered, landing in shards next to the elderly couple at the next table who jumped up, her understandably in shock and tears. Staff did nice job moving them inside to a twotop, cleaning up the mess, and removing all the seating on that side of the building for the night.

We looked at the desert menu, and decided on the Peach Crumble. Food taste so much better, when shared! Enough said. (We waited so long for this one, that we almost didn't made it to our event!
