This kooky little place is understated on the outside, but quite striking on the inside. It's a…read morecafe of all hours - open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and adapting well to each meal. I came here for brunch, and the menu was great - somewhere between traditional scottish cuisine, gourmet greasy spoon and gastropub. The food was top notch, tho mine was a little cold, which for mashed potato isn't that appetising, and the orange juice kind of manky... Still, the taste, presentation and serice time was all above par! The surroundings were quite attention grabbing - plenty of conversation starter nick nacks are on display around the walls, as they also sell antique and retro goods. Shopping AND eating at the same time?? It doesn't get much better than this...

My friend and I had been craving bacon rolls all morning since we hadn't made it to Jordanhill's university cafe on time. Woe was us. Then we discovered Cafe Circa which was miraculously still serving bacon rolls in the afternoon. Yippee!! The rolls were those crispy ones which I adore. We finished it off with a big chunk of chocolate cake which was perfectly proportioned. They now have an offer called a "friendship slice" where if you and a friend both order the same cake it costs only a little extra for the additional slice rather than double. The best thing about this quirky little find is the service. The guy that served us couldn't have been more helpful and was one of the smiliest waiters I have ever seen. We felt like we'd been regulars for years getting the VIP treatment. We also got a little card which offered a discount for when we next visited. Have been back several times and even though I have now left this area I would make the trip just for one of those amazing bacon rolls and lovely smiles.

I'd have to say that this cafe is pretty much my favorite one while I lived in Glasgow. I…read morefrequented it almost once a week. Now that I'm back in America, I miss this place a lot! Glaswegians, your cafes have definitely spoiled me and I can't find anything that compares to this in the U.S. When you walk in, you automatically get this cozy and warm feeling. Try to get a seat in the upstairs dining area, because this is where you will feel the most warmth. I also like sitting in the bar stools by the window because I like looking outside at the rain. If you find yourself waiting for a table, just take that time to browse the pastries, savory foods laid out, and even their selection of cookbooks. Their selection of cake and tarts change daily, but if they have leftovers one day then they serve the leftovers the next day until they are gone, but a lot of the time their pastries sell out on the first day. Bonus to this is that your pastries are definitely fresh! But the pastries still taste good even if they are a day old. Trust me. My go-to pastries were the Belgian Chocolate Cake or the vanilla custard tarts. This cake has hazelnuts inside of it and is served with raspberries, chocolate bits, dusted with sugar on top. If you love chocolate, this cake is the way to go. The vanilla custard tarts reminded me of home (because I would get Egg Tarts at Chinese bakeries and this vanilla custard tart tasted just like a egg tart) The only difference is that the tart at Kember & Jones had flaky layers of crust, which made the tart even better. My go-to drinks are hot chocolate or the Moroccan Fresh Mint Tea. The hot chocolate is served with foam and little chocolate bits on top. The Mint tea is served in a clear glass, but it comes hot (which was weird because I didn't think you would serve hot drinks in a glass) but I understood why because it has a bunch of mint leaves in it that changes the color of the drink to a light tan. It's cute and if you have a sore throat, it will make you feel better. Other things that I have tried and loved were the Warm Waffle (because it was served with syrup and fresh fruit), the French Lemonade (It was pink lemonade with a little bit of sourness), and the macarons (They make different ones each week. Try all of them because they go fast! I have to say during Christmas time their Christmas pudding one tastes pretty good, too.) Last thing to note is that the staff is very nice. I never really feel pushed to leave. They are polite and attentive.

Wonderful little café…read more Got there about 11:30am and it was choc full with an eclectic mix of customers. Hipsters, posh old couple, students, mothers with their babies and me There is seating outside which I wasn't brave enough to use with no sun shining, inside gave me the feeling of being in the store room of a great hall or castle, small but packed full of great big chairs or dark wood furniture. I could only get a seat at the window breakfast bar on the high stools, not the most comfortable but gave a great view for my people watching hobby. The menu isn't very substantial with choice, however their cake selection is. My lunch came and for the price and the location I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't a tiny little plate, a ciabatta that easily filled me. Flat white coffee was pure velvety gold in a cup, best coffee I have had in some time. Served at the perfect drinking temperature and just sublime For me it lost a star on the general layout and some of the seating, as cool as it looks, it hinders the space for getting around, big chairs that people had to pull in to let me past and hard stools that don't encourage staying for another coffee Oh I almost forgot ..... Loved the collection of classic motorbikes and a little tractor outside!
We stopped by Kothel for a quick breakfast last week and were really pleasantly surprised! I hadn't…read moreeven realized it was open as I usually venture down Dumbarton Road rather than Crow Road for my breakfast treats. The atmosphere is lovely, although perhaps trying just a tiny tiny bit too hard (ie. harris tweed cushions!) They have clearly put a lot of thought into the decor and it does create a very comfortable environment with lots to look at. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive. We ordered two croissants (one chocolate, one almond), which were HUGE! We were asked straight away if we wanted them warmed, which made them even more delicious. My only gripe was that the almond one didn't have marzipan running through it, just sugary almond deliciousness on top. The coffee was distinctively italian, quite acidic and intense, which I really liked. The bill came to just under a tenner for two croissants and two coffees- that seems a bit steep when I think of my days in the south of France where the same bill might have cost half as much, but I think for the West End it's probably comparable to other similar places (ie Kember and Jones) and has a much nicer vibe. I had a wee look at the food menu and there wasn't an awful lot available for veggies, which is to be expected in most continental-style delis I think, but the cakes looked amaaaaazing! Definitely want to go back for a slice of their red velvet cake soon, or even dinner as they're open until ten!
Let me preface this by saying that this probably just isn't My Kind Of Place. That's fine, and the…read morerecognition of that is why it has three rather than two stars. I was on my way back from an audition, and saw the words "Salad Box" in the window of Brunch. Seeing that they had no reviews, I went in to give them a go. I was met by two very friendly people, and then place looks and feels clean and tidy. that's about the extent of the positive experiences. The salad bar has a lot of basic salad ingredients like iceberg lettuce, cucumber and tomato, but nothing that really inspired me. Being vegetarian, I was also no able to have most of the "fillings" as they called them, and went with the egg and mayo. What I ended up with was very similar to what I call the "sad salad" you get with a curry, plus some egg in Mayo. All this was slapped in a styrofoam container and served up to me. Three quid. The resulting meal was bland and not at all filling. Thankfully they had some beetroot and jalapeños, otherwise the only flavour I would have had would have been the chunks of red onion. (Chunks of onion are not nice in a fresh salad.) I ended up having to eat something else as well, which I think is really the main sin here. At the price, I can deal with a tasty half-meal or a bland meal, but not a bland half-meal. If I get the job I auditioned for in the area, I'm afraid I won't be returning to Brunch.

Still to try their main…read moremeals or lunch menu but they have quite a good choice of meals & they do a 'Teatime Deal' which is £9 for 2 main courses & drinks, pretty good. What I really do like about here is they serve their breakfasts until 4pm. Great. Sometimes you wake up a bit late & want breakfast & other times it might be 'lunchtime' but all you want is a big fry up brekkie - this Mozzers cafe caters for that. Thumbs up. They also do a wide range of breakfast options from the healthy (mixed berry granola & yogurt) to the naughty (the belly busting big Scottish Breakfast) and recently they added a Meat-free Breakfast which I had on my last visit. It was okay but a little bland; the Quorn sausage, toast, beans & fried egg were nice but the mushrooms, tomato & hash browns (which I usually LOVE) were all quite tasteless. On my first visit I had the Wee Scottish Breakfast and that was really good - just the right amount of everything & I was still pooped afterwards, all for a bargainous price of £3.75. The coffee here is not too shabby and they have things like Build Your Own Burger, kids meals for £2.99 and meals for under 600 calories. In fact all meals have the calorie contents beside them which is a really good (if sometimes terrifying!) addition to the menu. Upon out first visit we noticed how blummin' annoying it was that the doors into the cafe are automatic & everytime someone walked past to enter the supermarket next door they kept opening & during the winter this was hellish. Thankfully they have since corrected this by adding a push button on the doors outside & in so there is slightly less of the annoying Partick wind tunnel bellowing through the cafe every 2 minutes. Tables & chairs are reasonably comfortable and the place is kept quite clean & tidy most of the time too. Service is quite quick but it's not a canteen style service even though it may look that way. You order, they give you a table number & it is then brought to you when ready - it means things are being cooked to order rather than simply some pre-cooked/warmed food being plonked on your plate as & when you place your order. Good prices & reasonable food in a pleasant enough environment. Great for a lazy/late brekkie, cheap lunch or super value, sit-in teatime meal.
