These brave tree climbers cut down 3 dead trees. Day 1 last week involved a crane. They were here awhile and decided to come back another day with a larger crane as crane operator didn't feel safe or comfortable with smaller crane. Day 2 today they assessed and didn't use crane. Skinny guy shimmied up 2 trees. They use radio head sets to communicate. They took all branches and tree limbs away. Wow this is a dangerous job for young guys, but they worked very safely. Cost was around $2900, but these were old dead trees. Much respect for a dangerous job. Must be cool riding up in the air on a crane though. Definitely recommend these guys. read more

Let me start by saying it's an oddly run company, which is what I told them when I spoke with them about some issues after job was completed. I won't use them again. Had them clean up 2 large Silver Maples, thinning canopies, etc. I've had this done a few times previously, using a different company. I was asked about payment by 3 different people during the job? Advised each that company has my CC on file, as it was required to get a date scheduled. While I was outside speaking with a neighbor, one of their workers came over and introduced himself by saying he's the most popular person on the job?? Neighbor and I looked at each other - no idea what he meant by that. He had only arrived a short time prior to that and I had no idea what his part of the job was. The next day, I received an email from him asking to rate him only and his service ?? I had to ask about the suckers on one tree. Was advised they would remove them but only if I wanted them removed ? Not something they automatically do. And, the typical scenario - during the job, I was advised there were more limbs to be removed/cleaned up to reduce weight in a couple areas. Of course this was an add-on. My question when speaking to the company after job was completed was why weren't those items included by the person who came out and quoted the job. The person that quotes the job isn't onsite during the job. Their website mentions they have certified arborists. No idea if the quoter was a certified arborist or not. Was given price to have it done and then billed for a higher amount. That part was glossed over and not addressed during my conversation with them after the fact. My trees look hacked up compared to jobs done in prior years. LOTS of people on the job meaning lots of people to pay. Must be the reason for their high prices. Overall, not happy with work done for the price. My conversation with them after the job didn't help explain much either. Live and learn. read more

We have a huge Siberian Elm that is 55 years old and squirrels had feasted on its bark last winter for both nest making and food. I'm updating my review because we had Bratt Tree Company come back out. After the work of the trees were done, my husband wasn't happy that the stump in the front tree was lifting up from the ground so we asked Bratt Tree Company if they would be able to come back to grind the underground stump part more so that the lawn looks leveled and even. The staff responded quickly and they were able to come back out to make the spot more even and it was done quickly and the staff person did a nice job of the clean up afterwards. This is the first tree company I've worked with and they have made it easy to get in touch with them through the web inquiry for an estimate of what we wanted done and have us the option to communication through phone or Email. I was so glad to have the email option because being on the phone with a 2 years old is a nightmare or when there's really of them and then having to discipline while on the phone is no fun. Used to enjoy working with Bratt. Customer service is now absolutely horrendous. Needed my magnolia trimmed and also treated for Magnolia scale. Took weeks for them to respond, then was told I needed to yet again call the office. Called the office at 8:15, and they said the person I needed would be there at 9am and that they would call me back. Shocker, no call. Then someone called me and said they would be out that week to do the work. 2 weeks go by, nothing. Then, they emailed me and said they needed a cc to schedule the work... so a complete 180. No one shows up, and it takes 2 weeks to give me that info. Finally they trim the tree. A month later, I get a call that they were coming out that week to treat for the scale, and they will call me that week. No call. No evidence of any work was done. I reach out 2 weeks later and they say "I talked to the technician and they can confirm the work was done." Really? What about the call before you said you would do the work? They said they would send an invoice in the next couple of days. No invoice. I have reached out several times since to see if the actual work was done, and if so, where the invoice is. Zero response. They have lost a long time customer and I would never recommend them to anyone. It is not difficult to communicate and at the bare minimum acknowledge someone. read more

Very pleased with their work taking down a huge elm that was hanging over some power lines. They didn't even need to get the power shut off. When I agreed to their price, they put me on a standby list and, not even two weeks later, they called to say they'd be there in an hour. They got the job done, cleaned up, and wood removed in about two hours total. I asked for 3 quotes - one didn't get back to me, and the other was for literally TWICE as much as Bratt (also would have involved shutting off power and taking down part of my fence). We've used Bratt three (maybe four) times now. We always do our due diligence by getting multiple bids, but in the end, we go with Bratt and have never been disappointed. We've found them to be knowledgeable arborists, thorough in their work, and affordable in cost. Their last job was to remove a huge 100+ year-old oak in our back yard that was dying. There was an enormous branch hanging over our house that I was worried would fall and crush us in our sleep! The job required a crane, several large trucks and an entire day to complete. This review is long overdue, as our diseased elm tree was removed by Bratt Tree Company on 9-18-08. It was dutch elm disease, & we did everything we could to save it. It was huge-towering above our 3rd floor & stretching over the neighbors yards on both sides, it could be seen from a block away. I loved that tree, & it was devastating to hear the arborist say they didn't recommend trying anything else to save it. But the responsible thing to do was to remove it, & the city could come by & condemn it at any time. Access to the yard was difficult-huge tree, neighbors on both sides, narrow alley & fence, power lines...2 different companies told us the only way to remove it safely was with a crane. When Jon Bratt came to do the estimate, he said he could use a crane if we wanted him to, but he didn't think he'd need one. He said he saw we had a lot of plants, & acknowledged that "some of those plants are going to have a bad day". But you can buy a lot of plants with the $3000 you'll save by not renting a crane! We ended up with minimal damage-a couple of minor divots in the yard & garden from fallen debris. I guess you'd have to see the yard to appreciate how amazing that is, given all the obstacles. We also had the stump ground out that day, setting the stage for new trees. I appreciated how sympathetic the company was-I was devastated by the loss of the tree & they were very respectful of that. I also scheduled the removal to take place more than 2 months after the date of the estimate, so that I could enjoy the tree & benefit from it's shade through the summer. I was extremely disappointed with the service provided as well as Bratt's lack of customer service following the service. I contacted Bratt last summer in order to have a few large branches that hung directly over power lines removed. After submitting an estimate request online for the removal of the branches, I received an electronic bid that specified "Crown Clean Pruning" services. After receiving that bid, I spoke with a representative, Connor Walsh, in order to ensure that this service included the removal of the large branches over the power lines. I was assured that it did. Bratt did not remove the branches, however. Instead, they performed "crown cleaning" while leaving the large branches hanging directly over the power lines. Accordingly, I contacted Bratt because we did not receive the service that was requested and that we paid $750 for. I spoke with Connor Walsh in order to try and remedy the situation on two separate occasions. On both calls I felt him to be rude and unprofessional and quite condescending. He told me that branch removal is not a service they would perform, and that they never would have told me that they would remove those branches. This was directly contrary to our pre-service conversation. If branch removal is not a service Bratt will provide, that is fine, but that should have been communicated to me before the service I did not request was provided. I certainly should not have been misled to believe that branch removal would be performed. After the two conversations where I do not believe Bratt adequately addressed any of my concerns, Mr. Walsh offered to provide a written estimate for full tree removal at a discounted price. Over a week later, however, still no estimate had been provided. Sick of being given the run-around, I advised Bratt that no estimate would be necessary as I wouldn't be using their services any longer. Overall, significant information was not provided to us prior to the service, but the situation was made worse when none of our concerns were taken seriously or adequately addressed after the fact. Bratt should have been upfront about what services they will or will not perform and treated our concerns with basic decency and respect. I would have let this issue go, but I received a couple emails from Bratt asking me to review them, so here it is. read more

I've used Bratt twice now and have been very pleased both times. The first was two very large evergreen that over hung my house and the neighbors. Bratt removed both and ground the stump. I requested a cut from one of the trunks that ended up being the size of a table. The second time was to remove an elm with a split trunk an many broken branches from a severe storm. The tree was hanging over the neighbor's house and I was very scared that it may fall. Bratt removed it within hours of looking at it and left little evidence that it was ever there. Very rude. Needed to remove a diseased tree. They ended up bending my fence and brought heavy equipment onto the lawn without putting down a surface damaging the lawn. Next, they half ass'd ground the stump so that when it came time to re-sod the lawn because of the damage, I was unable to due to the stump not being properly ground down.. When I politely called to ask if they could at least complete the stump grinding I paid for, they became extremely offensive and just said no, that "they had more important things to do". I'd like to say it happened in October (4 months ago)....but I can't because they still haven't finished the job. They quoted taking down a tree. They took one limb down and left me calling their office about 10 times. Just now-four months later- they sent me a quote to take the other limbs down. Steer clear of John Bratt and his company Bratt Tree. He is not only rude (as another reviewer also mentioned), but he has no idea how to work with customers and he only seems to care about chasing the almighty $$ at whatever the cost to others. We had a contract with them to take down a diseased tree and grind 3 stumps. 5 days before they were to come out a big storm hit and a large branch from that same tree came down and took out our power. Long story short, a lot of other trees came down and they didn't show up and didn't even bother to call or contact us to discuss any of this. When I did talk to them they said they were swamped and didn't know when they would get to us and that our contract had been "canceled." What??! A month later they called to say they were ready. Umm... what about the live power line that was in our yard under a huge branch from a diseased tree that they were under contract to take out over a month ago??? What about the risk the remaining tree posed after half of it had come down? What about th agreement we had? None of this seemed to matter to them.
