We came here because it was crowded and curious what the hype was about. We stood outside to look…read moreat the menu. It was well priced. We are of course skeptical. Crowded and well price could mean it was just good value. Anyway we gave it a go. We were greeted quickly but a friendly but efficient staff #1. We decided to sit inside. It was even more crowded inside but not noisy. We were given menus by staff #2. #1 came back after a few moments asking if we wanted drinks. Of course we do and so my husband ordered a good glass of red, he said it's very affordable! He thoroughly enjoyed his drink when it came. #3 came to take our food order. #2 brought us bread. We ordered the set menu of escargot, trout for me, beef cheek for the husband. #4 brought us our plates! Our escargots were delish! We used the bread to wipe clean the plate. So good. Well cooked escargot, very tender, not too salty. Done perfectly. My trout came with baby potatoes, brussel sprouts and crayfish in the sauce. Did I mention I shoveled it all up and more bread to wipe the plate? My husband's beef cheek came with a baked potato thingy. He thoroughly enjoyed his dish too. It was tender and flavorful. Our set came with dessert. We each got different dessert. Happy! Despite how busy the restaurant was, we didn't feel rushed. The quality of food was top notch. Even though it was a well priced set, the portions were definitely generous. Come here if you are ever in Beaune. A short walk from the train station. It is clearly a well-oiled machine they are running.

The restaurant was able to accommodate us on a weekend without a reservation. Luckily we got there…read moreearly, but by the time we left it was packed. Everyone in my party of six enjoyed their meal. Service was great!

An excellent location right in the middle of the little town…read more We stopped here around 5pm on a Friday, given that it's positioned right on the biking wine road. An excellent thing is that they had sandwiches outside usual dining hours, which we absolutely used. It's a nice and calm location with a terrace on the town square and just next to the Savigny-les-Beaune castle. The sandwitches were excellent, we could park our bikes just next to our table and the wines by the glass they had were an excellent discovery as well. Overall, an excellent location, totally recommendable!

We had just toured the adjacent Chateau Savigny-les-Beaune and wanted a place where we could eat…read moreand wonder aloud what the hell that chateau was all about. Seriously, it was like a guy with a castle ran around to yard sales both expensive and cheap, bought all the offerings, and stuffed them in and around his domain. So, we walked here. It's about 40 feet from the chateau gates, so if you can't find it then you have a tremendous problem with navigation. We read the menu and it looked perfect, so I was prepared for them to tell me they weren't serving food. As any visitor to France soon learns, sometimes restaurants that are supposed to be open are closed. Or, sometimes restaurants that are open are indeed open but unwilling to serve you food for random French reasons. It's something you have to grudgingly accept if you want to enjoy your travels. Delightfully for us, the restaurant was actually open and receptive to the concept of seven humans, American and Irish, sitting down and eating their food. They have a lovely outdoor patio, but it was during a heat wave and there was not a chance in hell we'd be sitting outside. Indoors was quaint, comfortable, and didn't have the stupid sun beating down on us. If memory serves, we were limited to the pizza menu at that hour of the afternoon. Not a problem, as we were all quite hungry from walking around the chateau going, "What the hell is this?" for two hours. We ordered a variety of their pizzas -- from the traditional Margarita, to fancier types like my Paysanne (sauce, cheese, ham, bacon, onion, cream). You can see the full menu on their website, which was originally designed in 1999 (I checked the source code). I tried some of their local beers, which were quite nice, and a welcome break from the gallons of Burgundy we'd been consuming. Service was remarkably normal. We didn't feel rushed, but we also didn't feel like the waitress had boarded a boat for Antarctica. As a veteran of 3-hour French lunches, I appreciated this. All-in-all, a very nice experience, and definitely worth a try after you visit the castle that finally convinced my wife that she doesn't want to live in a castle.
