Though the creme brulee with tonka beans as dessert was a bit too sweet to my taste it was otherwise superb and I would order it again in a heartbeat. Highly recommended.

De sfeer van een riant café, de kwaliteit van een toprestaurant. De Douairière kent veel verschillende hoeken en zitjes. Allemaal plekken ook om aan te schuiven voor een culinair hoogstandje. Dat kan alleen, knus en met veel privacy met zijn tweeën of op andere plekken in het Grand Café zijn er weer mogelijkheden voor een grote groep. Grand Café De Douairière bewijst dat een bijzonder gerecht niet meteen een duur gerecht moet zijn. Een team van jonge, enthousiaste koks moedigt elkaar dagelijks aan om van de gerechten iets bijzonders te maken. Het alledaagse is hen een doorn in het oog, maar tegelijkertijd streven zij ernaar een breed publiek van dienst te zijn. I had the Ribs which were very good, along with the Fries (there's something about Dutch mayo that makes fries even better). The menu is NOT in English but Google translate handled most of what we couldn't decipher ourselves. The wait staff spoke English which also helped. There arent alot of other options in the area, but if you find yourself in town, definitely make this a must eat.

These were driest nachos dish I have ever tried. There was maybe one spoonful of meat on the entire plate and similar went for the salsa. The guac was not fresh but definitely came out of some kind of container. Other food on the table did not seem to be any better. I tried my husband's steak which was not the best cut and kind of tough. They also did not prepare it medium-rare like he requested, but just medium. Several people had fries which were just OK - the "Snacks" fast food place in the same building serves better quality. My mother-in-law had the chicken salad which was pretty much half a head of lettuce plus a few chicken stripes all drenched in Cesar dressing. Not impressed.
