One word: perfection. Out of all the restaurants I have visited in the UK, this restaurant is my favorite by far. I stopped by while visiting Oxford and this place was a great decision. The fish was delicate and cooked perfectly. The sauces served with the dishes were amazing and complimented the fish. Definitely some of the best fish dishes I've ever had. We visited the brasserie in a group of 26. The restrooms were uncredible dirty. But after complaining the crew cleaned it up. So far so good. I had the burger, it wasn't the best but also not the worse. Just too expensive. 15£. The best lemon tarte i've ever had. It's really expensive here. Maybe it's a good place for mussel. The second word says it all: Brasserie A 1990s buzzword for something less stuffy and expensive as a restaurant yet more vogue than a cafe or a pizza express. How many places got called 'Brasserie' in 1997? Too many. How many places did you eat at in the last two years called Brasserie that were any good? Probably none. I came here in 1999 when Raymond opened up this offshoot from his nearby Manoir and he had the grace to call it 'Petit Blanc', none of this Brasserie nonsense. And that may have been 10 years ago but I remember it to be much better. Small, unique and posh but worth it. Raymond seems a nice guy on his TV shows but sorry, this place has really slipped. I will give the food 5 stars but the staff took the number to 3. I found that the waitress treated our table like a grumpy school ma'am. As you can imagine this put a small damper on the evening. Thankfully the food brought the mood back up. My sea bass was delicious and the rest of the table raved about their main course. My escargot was ok. A large group of us visited for the lunch with wine offer. We received prompt helpful service with very high quality food and wine that was of a much better quality than that you would normally expect for such an offer. All for good price, so would definitely eat there again. read more

I was told that this place had a Michelin star chef before I came here for my first meal. Maybe I built it up in my head but I didn't find it *particularly* spectacular. The problem isn't that I have complaints, but I have few compliments either. It's not hugely memorable. The second time I came here, the appetizer plates we shared consisted of different cut and marinated vegetables, dips, and this strange piece of dried fish on it. None of us (and there were 15 people) were too crazy about it. For the main dish, I had the Beef Stroganoff which was good but not a home run. My friend's vegetable risotto was thoroughly lovely though. The desserts were decent but like I said, nothing deserving a bravo. The price is actually really good for a fairly up-scale place: set menu being £16 for three courses. Whenever I walk by on weekdays it appears to be catering to dining co-workers and business associates. However, they have a private room for larger parties and the place was packed with families on the weekends I went. However, the establishment itself is quite pleasing. The atmosphere and interior is bright, spacious, and welcoming. Classy and sophisticated but casual enough for just a meal out. I think they bank on their food flavor rather than any kind of show. It Simplicity of cuisine is the name of the game. I can't say too much in terms of service. It took almost 45 minutes to get our appetizer and another 30 minutes between that and the main course. Thankfully there was a group of us and a need to catch up so we chit-chatted most of the delay away. Overall, good place to take the family or for a get-together with a girlfriend for lunch. A wonderful family treat this weekend - lunch at Brasserie Blanc. The food is exactly what you would expect - French Brasserie style cooking of the very highest order. When you order sausages with mash you know that the sausages are going to be wonderful and locally sourced and the potatoes done to perfection. Starters including a rocquefort souffle and pork rilette were all excellent. The biggest regret is that we didn't have room for dessert. And this despite the charming Raymond Blanc himself, whilst dining at the table next to ours, telling my 12 year old to make sure she did leave room! The wine list is good and importantly for our lunchtime menu, had some excellent wines by the glass. The restaurant itself, in the terndy Jericco area of Oxford, has a buzzy but sophisticated atmosphere. Smart enough to feel you are somehwere a little special, but relaxed enough for any family meal. 3.5 stars for the food but 4.5 starts for the service. 4 overall! It is a lovely restaurant and the staff is friendly and attentive. However, I expected a bit more from the food. I went with the pork belly and my friend went with the filet mignon. Both dishes were nice but nothing we would really remember. On the other hand, the appetizers were phenomenal - I had the chicken liver pate and my friend had the charcuterie plate. I would definitely come back and give them another try! read more

This restaurant is based in trendy Jericho and is certainly a lovely place to have a evening meal. The atmosphere is very relaxed and laid back, not really what I was expecting - not a place to go dressed up, as you'll probably be the only one. The food was lovely but was very expensive. I a fair bit for a piece of meat and some mash - it was cooked absolutely perfectly but the portion didn't represent good value for money, I thought. This is a place to come for a treat as it's a bit pricey. The wine list is excellent and the service was very polite, if a little snooty at times. The restaurant is a fair walk away from the middle of town but the room is very welcoming and comfortable. A bit of a mixed experience for me, but worth a try. read more

Having browsed through some of Raymond Blanc's recipe books, I was curious to try his concept restaurant. It's now owned by Loch Fyne, the chain of fish restaurants. The first few times I walked past, nothing really caught my eye, and with lunch at £10-£15 and an a-la-carte menu ranging from £25-£30, I was reluctant to risk it. Eventually, having heard really good reviews from friends, I braved it. I'm very glad I did. The places oozes quality, with very polite, professional waiting staff and a subtle decor. The tables are a little close together in places, but it's fine if you go on a quiet night. I had the duck, which was as good as any I've tasted, and my partner had the pork belly, which he said was delicious. I'm not sure I could ever find another animal's stomach that tasty, so it must really be saying something! We shared a risotto starter, which was very tasty, but didn't have room for pudding, which is sad as I've heard the liquid chocolate pudding and the lemon tart are to die for. I hadn't visited this place in years, almost since it opened when I used to go once a month at least. I went back again with my family this Sunday and it was excellent. We had some dishes from the a la carte and others from the set lunch time and they were all very good. It's good value too given that five people with wine, coffee and a variety of interpolations (some had three courses, some only two) the bill came up to just over £100. This must be one of the best restaurants in the centre of Oxford (though in 'trendy' Jericho I agree that the location may be a little out of the way for those unfamiliar with Oxford, but just as well!). read more

Wonderful atmosphere for some quality food. The price compared with other shops in Oxford of the same caliber is quite reasonable. Their food is not super fancy, but is well made and comforting. The atmosphere is very welcoming. I love that it's brightly lit, and has a certain feel of busyness to it that makes you feel almost excited to be there. The bread came first and was not warm and a bit hard to chew. For appetizers, we both had escargot, which were well made and what you would expect. For our entrees and we lamb chops and beef bourguignon. Both were beautifully executed and seasoned well. I can't say anything knocked it out of the park, but it was very well made and comforting. If you want a nice and fancy dinner out, without any (nasty or otherwise) surprises then this is a good bet. I personally would definitely visit again. read more

Brasserie Blanc is Superb Food of a high, consistent standard, where else can you get seasonal healthy interesting food for this price? - They do an early bird lunch/early evening menu where you can have 3 courses and a glass of their excellent house wine for £16 !! - The most important thing to remember is this is a Brasserie - its not trying to be fine dining - if you want fine dining from Blanc go to Le Manoir in Oxford, Raymond's Michelin Starred Restaurant. If you go to Brasserie Blanc wanting fine dining you will be disappointed even if Raymond appeared on horseback dressed as Joan of Arc singing the Latvian National anthem backwards through a rolled up copy of 'Le Monde'. Yes, sometimes the service is slightly off but I can put up with that as the overall experience for the money is great, if 2 people spend £70 here you would have plenty to eat and be sozzled! The food is not rich French either its a great balance of different cuisines, the cocktail list is innovative and house champagne great value. Final word on the cheeseboard, it comes from the Premier Cheese Company who supply the Fat Duck, Le Manoir and loads of other top places, make room for this if you can! I have also visited the Leeds and Manchester one and found standards consistent. Good vege choices too, had a chestnut risotto and sage and pumpkin soup last time I was there. read more

This place was a huge disappointment. We were expecting a delicious and elegant meal from a top chef, and instead got something worse than most of the pub meals we ate during our trip. There were a lot of technical errors in the food- short ribs tough and stringy, salmon overcooked, vegetables mushy and tasteless. I was shocked that such a fine restaurant would serve food that was just prepared incorrectly. To top it all off, our server was terrible. She never came back to check on the food or to ask us how things were going. We couldn't get drink refills or a check when the time came. We did speak with the manager after the meal, and he was unapologetic about our experience. I recommend staying far, far away from this place. read more

I had dinner with some friends here and did not find it a very pleasant place so cannot recommend it. The food was just about all right some dishes were very good, others less so but what really spoils the brasserie for me is that the tables are too close together (the place was packed) and the acoustics of the place are very hard all the noise bounces back from the ceiling, making it impossible to have a conversation without talking quite loudly, which of course only adds to the problem. Our table was quite good but some of the smaller tables are really tucked away and very pokey. The staff seemed to be very rushed too, terse and rather indifferent. The Cherwell Boathouse is a far superior restaurant in every way, for not much more in the way of money. read more

This restaurant is part of the Raymond Blanc empire and aimed at the lower priced quality area of the market. The standard of attention, food service and atmosphere is extremely high and the prices do not reflect this. They do special menus for lunch and dinner if your are on a tighter budget and even a kids menu which is good enough for an adult ! The kids are given a tub of pencils and a fun colouring sheet where they are encouraged to draw Raymond Blanc before their meal arrives. This was an expensive treat but worth every penny. The food was really lovely and the wine matched the quality and rounded off the meal a treat. The service was fine (didn't compare to Jamie Oliver's 15 in my opinion) and my only other complaint (although not really a complaint as it didn't bother me that much) was that the tables were really close together - they really used the space in their restaurant to the very maximum! I have visited here 6 or 7 times over the last 18 months and generally find it a great place to go with friends and family. Food is lovely and not overpriced same for the wine menu. On the one occasion I had cause to comment on the service the staff could not have been more helpful and all was resolved quickly and satisfactorily. Ignore the naysayers and give it a go. read more

I've eaten here at lunch and for dinner. Both times the food was superb, most recently a melt in the mouth cheese souffle as starter, juicy steak as our main course and a wonderfully tart lemon tart to finish. The service friendly and efficient, and no sense of being hurried through, even on a very busy Friday night. It is pricey at dinner (about £90 for two with three courses, wine, sparkling water and coffee) but there's a good value set lunch menu that is much more wallet-friendly. read more
