We drove around and saw the locals out and enjoying the beautiful vistas, the ballfields and getting exercise in. The topography consists of a large grassy meadow sloping upwards towards hills that overlook the Brandywine River. Here can be had many views of the city of Wilmington. Be careful. It's a really steep drop to the river. Thankfully, There are many trees planted there that would discourage those with intact brain cells from attempting a descent. History nerd moment 1: The park is on the National Historic Registry. History nerd moment 2: Rockford Tower was built as a water tower over 100 years ago. From what I hear if you climb those spiral stairs to the top there are some of the best views of the city. History nerd moment 3: A few examples of statuary that were well cared for and well preserved. Of particular note was a statue of Samuel DuPont in civil war military attire at the Tower Road entrance very close to the famous Tower Hill school. Wonder why Dupont got such an illustrious statue when Bancroft donated 59 acres of his property and Dupont had to be convinced by Bancroft to donate 9 acres? There must be a statue of William Bancroft in the park somewhere. I'm going back soon to find it.

Although it was very crowded, there was plenty of room for everyone so it didn't feel overly crowded. There were food trucks and beer tents set up for patrons! A 50/50 was also going on! The only thing I'm not a fan of is that I currently do live in Delaware, but my license plate is from out of State so I still have to pay out-of-state license fee for the parking. The trail extends between two towns, and follows a former railroad bed with plenty of trees for shade and benches for rest breaks. Not as crowded as Gordon's pond trail! We rode the trail on bikes and parked for free at , Stephen T. Hudson Park , In Milton/Coolspring area. If your looking for a close landmark for GPS location to Stephen T. Hudson Park , its by the " Brimming Horn Meadery " in Milton. The park is basically a parking lot, rest area, and connects you to the Georgetown/Lewes trail. You're basically riding through lots of neighborhoods whose back yards back up to the trail and the home owners take pride in welcoming bike riders. Be on the look out for the backyard of dressed mannequins, pet memorial placing dog collars on fence , memorial to Jimmy Buffett, flamingos and interesting yard decor ! We stopped at Nassau bridge to "Old World Breads" (awesome bakery) , and "Dog Pirate Brewery."

It had rained the night before so the trails were a little muddy and the wet leaves made things slippery so I stuck to the paved trail. One trailhead has restrooms and picnic tables. They allow bow and arrow deer hunting season but it is clearly marked. A family of deer crossed my path right in front of me. You can see one deer jumping across the path in one picture. The mom and baby crossed in front of me and I could hear rustling in the woods so I waited patiently for the dad to appear. Very peaceful. When the trails are not muddy, make sure you explore off on them. This is part of the Delaware Greenway system - make sure you check out all the other paths.
