I have some mixed feelings about my recent visit to Brake Masters. The customer service itself was solid--the staff was friendly and courteous, which I appreciate. However, I do have a few concerns that left me questioning the overall value. I came in to have my rear brake pads and rotors replaced. The total came out to $469.97, with $148 for labor and $321.97 for parts. Here's where the frustration kicks in: after the service, I looked up the exact part numbers they used and discovered those same parts online for significantly less. * They charged $101.99 for brake pads (part #PSP1632), but I found them online for around $44. * Each rotor (part #BR901192) was $109.99, yet online they're listed for about $44 each. I'm not a mechanic, so maybe there's some justification--like a lifetime warranty or standard mark-up--but from a consumer standpoint, it feels like I was overcharged for parts I could've easily sourced myself at a much lower price and then just paid a shop for the labor. To make matters worse, I mentioned my Costco membership, which is supposed to give 15% off parts, services, and accessories. They said they'd apply the discount, but only took $30 off the subtotal. With a total of $469.97, 15% should've knocked off closer to $70--so it feels like I got shortchanged there as well. All in all, while I appreciated the staff's friendliness, the inflated part prices and inaccurate discount application left me feeling like I didn't get the full value I was promised. read more

They did their best, but in the end my wheel was still crooked and pulled left. I went to the Norco brake masters and their tech asked what way the steering wheel was pointing. I said pointing right pulling left. He zeroed the toe on the passenger tire and the driver was .24 degrees toed out. He said there's your problem. SUMMARY: Poor customer service, poor mechanical practices, steer clear folks. I was referred here by America's Tire after they cross threaded one of my wheel studs about a year ago. I walked in and spoke with the Manager Alvaro "Al" Cruz. I explained the referral and he was prepared to charge me $70 for the service unless I had America's Tire call and give him a verbal okay. Once I called America's Tire (THEY are very professional) they quickly called Al. Standing only a few feet from Al, he proceeds to lie and tell them I said the stud was damaged a few days ago. I confronted Al about this fact to which he is quick to talk to me like a child, saying he "assumed" it was a few days ago because why would ANYONE wait a year to get the stud repaired. Well AL, some of us have busy lives and since America's Tire didn't leave me missing a lug nut, I was in no rush. Bottom line, Al you lack customer service skills and I will be sure to tell people to steer clear of your shop. I will drive to Norco next time. Not to mention I walk over to see the service being performed only to see the technician left my caliper HANGING by the brake line. REALLY? I asked my pal Al about this, but of course he defended it while again trying to make me feel dumb saying that it's not a problem unless it's a 100k plus vehicle with brittle brake lines. I'm just a garage mechanic but even I know you shouldn't let the caliper hang by the brake line, you suspend it from the frame or somewhere above the axle. read more

Went in to get a complimentary second opinion on a wheel alignment and they ended up charging me full price when I did in fact inform the advisor that I would take my vehicle back to the original place I went to for the alignment so they can make the necessary corrections. The advisor did mention the price on what it would be if I did need the alignment when he took down my information. When I was waiting in the waiting area he called me back and told me a wheel alignment was needed and that he also noticed another problem. I told the advisor can he provide me the print out so I can take it to the first tire place because I just paid for the alignment two days prior and that I was under warranty. He said ok I'll have your car out front. When I went to get my keys from him he then told me that they made the corrections and that I had to pay. I'm very upset and feel like I was taken advantage of and him or Jesus the manager showed no remorse and kept saying I did agree to service being done.
