Wrote a review last week but has since disappeared about that it took five rework trips on my Cadillac fora Brake Check alignment. I had been a customer and different Brake Checks locations for years, complained online and Brake Check recommended to go to this one and talk to " J", They performed an accurate one but after a month or two It would start making popping noises and wandering all over the road, on puddles it would be scary. I would bring it back and on the alignment rack it clearly showed that it was off the specs, they would realign and again after a couple of months it started again. The fourth time I mentioned that I noticed they didn't torque the bolts down, I mentioned it to them and they stated they could guesstimate the torque. The fifth time I was a little upset because I knew it was damaging my suspension components. I researched through a Certified GM Helm factory Manual and found that one was suppose to be torqued to 127Lbs and another bolt to 107lbs torque which I could see that it wasn't happening because they were barely putting tool pressure to around 60lbs torque. J asked where I got my info and I presented him with a printout on the spec of alignment and torque specs, he took a picture of my spec and went to his computer and verified that they were correct. This manager "J" took my vehicle down a side street and was driving it fast and brought it back to the bay five times to readjust the alignment I was impressed. He then told the working Alignment tech to tighten the right side bolt to 125lbs torque, but only that one, I frowned at that, but I was done with them, I went home avoiding pothole in these San Antonio streets and am doing the torque down spec with my own torque wrench. So much for service! I was looking to "update" my observation and this is when I found that my prior post wasn't found by me as I was updating, I had found out after "J" repeatedly road tested an hour later that my tilt steering wasn't working which I know that "J" broke it, so now I have an inoperative tilt steering on my Caddy. And another gaslight that "J" told me is that these cars have self adjusting Steering Centers which they don't, that are suppose to be done with a Tech 2 with Candi interface to recognize the reference of the aligned centered steering wheel. I have to say with a heavy heart that "J" is not only a gaslighter but a bald face liar. Beware and be out there to check on torque work and for them not to break anything else since that the way they pad their bottom line profit margin. read more

Botched brake flush, brakes failed on me while driving. Had to limp my way back home on back roads, worrying about life and property all the way. Brake check admitted fault, 2 other customer serviced here faced the same, but wouldn't provide towing or any compensation, or even a refund. Had to go up to the Area VP and even he could only offer a brake check gift card, after I asked a couple of times for a refund to help cover the towing cost. The store manager was courteous but couldn't do much besides fixing the issue. Imagine if this had happened to themselves or one of their loved ones, I bet they would offer and get more than a lousy shop gift card The irony is in their name and slogan, We do it right? Took my 2022 ram 2500 to this location for a simple oil change, fuel filter and air filter replace. After I left brake check I saw oil dripping from under my truck, looking under truck the entire under carriage was covered in oil. Which i spent hours cleaning on a new truck with 15k miles! After several miles my check engine light came on. A list of issues that could not be resolved by brake check. Had to take to dealership to resolve issues. Almost $500 worth of work done here that dealer had to redo. They are not qualified to service newer diesel trucks. Its been 2 weeks of run around anwsers from manager of this store and still no resolution or phone calls from their coporate office. Do yourself a favor and take to competent shop. read more

On July 5, your Brake Check location at I-10 West, described my decision to not allow you to work on my vehicle in the following way, "Customer opted out of all repairs and wanted us to tell him what it was that his mechanic needed to replace. Customer has a seized axle on driver side and wanted to see if we can break the seize so his mechanic can replace cv axle. Once customer found out there is a charge all work was declined and asked to remove vehicle from shop." You characterized my visit as me trying to take advantage and use your services so that I could take my business elsewhere once I got from you what I wanted. Before visiting you, I called because I knew that my vehicle definitely needed a CV axle replaced and rotors turned due to some vibration. Over the phone, I was quoted around $350 for the driver's side CV axle replacement and $30 to rotate each rotor. That quote seemed OK to me, it's slightly more than what my mechanic would have charged. Since he works by appointment only, I decided to take it to you. In addition, my mechanic had replaced the passenger side CV axle last year and he did have a very hard time separating the hub bearing from the axle itself and I figured you would have an easier time. That is what prompted me to take my car to Brake Check. After your inspection, the total estimate your adviser gave me was over $800 for all the recommendations that were made. The quote for the CV axle replacement by itself was $450.98 plus $69.98 to perform the alignment not including taxes. That is much more than the $350 ball park figure given to me over the phone. And no, I didn't want you to break the "seize" as you wrote in yur summary so that I could then take it to my mechanic. I am not stupid. I know that once you start a job, I am expected to pay for it. I would have gladly let you perform the CV axle job if the quote after your inspection would have been similar to what was quoted to me over the phone. But paying over $500 for a CV axle replacement with an alignment is just something I am not willing to do. Also, your findings pointed to a rotor that needed to be resurfaced on the left side, recommendation of resurfacing the right rotor was also made, replacing the set of front brake pads and at least doing the caliper piston maintenance on the passenger side because the boot holding the piston in place had the edge torn and fluid might start leaking as the damage would progress. Obviously, this was going to involve more than just turning the rotors if the caliper maintenance was to be performed and the fluid would have to be flushed. But as your adviser kept giving me grand totals, the price would end up being much more than what was quoted in the estimate texted to me. I understand that taxes also had to be added, but the totals were much higher. I knew that those brake parts were replaced in November of 2020 and they had no more than 7,000 or 8,000 because this vehicle is not used every day anymore. Pretty much after the June 2021 it mostly sits in the garage and is used to run errands and for weekend driving. The warranty on the labor my mechanic performed had expired; but I thought that maybe he could still do something about the parts. I called him as I was waiting and he said for me to take it right away. I did not have to schedule an appointment. Because of your high quote on the CV axle and because I knew the brake parts on this car had very few miles on them, this is why I opted out of you doing any work. Again, had your estimate for the CV axle been reasonable as in what was quoted to me over the phone, I still would have allowed you to perform the axle job. The good news is that my mechanic inspected everything I mentioned to you. He had the passenger side caliper, the driver side rotor and the set of front brake pads replaced at no charge(N/C) under warranty with his supplier because they had less than 12,000 miles. He cut the rotor on the right side and the price on the CV axle was $126.55, the labor was $149 and the alignment was $60. He also did a few other things for a grand total of $471.55. It definitely beats the estimate of over $800 Brake Check had given me on everything it recommend. There are four vehicles in our household. At times when my mechanic is too busy or when I don't feel like doing the work myself(which I can do), I have taken some of these vehicles to you. For a simple brake job in which all that needs to be done is resurface the rotors and change the brake pads, I still think you are very competitive. When my daughter was in college in another city, I would tell her to go to you guys to have her brakes serviced if she couldn't drive home so I could check her vehicle. Now as a result of your inaccurate conclusion about me, you have lost all my business. read more

First time to Break Check. Called first to see if they could get me in. Dropped my car off on Sunday around 4pm and I knew it probably wouldn't be ready which i was ok with. Called Monday at 730am and the service manager had already started on my car at 7am Monday which was awesome. Came in around 10am to pick it up and it was ready. VERY poor quality of work. Took my vehicle in for brakes. Work was done. Had to take the truck back in because the brakes were squealing very badly! Work was done again. After having my vehicle aligned, they forgot to tighten the camber/caster bolt on my upper control arms causing it to wear out prematurely. I had just replaced the upper control arms too and do to this screw up I had to do it again. I've had better luck at the Helotes location...Scratch that the Helotes location is trash too. They may claim to be lowest prices, but they start charging for all the other things that are involved with whatever job is needed, when most other places include the same things in their prices. In the end they quoted prices way beyond what was advertised or quoted over the phone. Oh, and in God's name, whatever you do, don't let them align your vehicle! Half assed work! Had an all wheel drive aligned, they didn't tighten the rear axles nearly enough! In a month they were loose, and chewed up two almost new tires to where they need replacing two years early! Well, to make a long story short, my engine went out & I had to buy a new engine. They didn't accept responsibility and basically had me take my car back and they put oil in it and gave it back to me. Smh. I had to buy a new engine and they did absolutely nothing about it. Very bad place to go went for my alignment they left the frontend loose took it back they said they forgot to tighten the tire rods. If I could like have a zero rating I totally would. I asked for a total brake job they did not fulfill that and my calipers failed, causing my rotors, brake pads and shoes needing to be replaced. They then said that, "this is not our fault you should have communicated better." So needless to say management is disrespectful and inept. Took our vehicle in for a second opinion after an astronomical $1700 quote for brake service down the street. Brake check technicians were friendly and honest. Despite a lengthy wait, they did a wonderful job on all new brake pads for around $450. Will definitely return and recommend. read more

Oil Change/Alignment. Charged $40 for an oil change after being told it was $20. Alignment was a little off at first. Car came out pulling to the right so bad the tires squealed when I made a left turn. Had another place redo the alignment and asked for a refund from this place. Equipment was left under my hood by workers. Instead of getting refund to my card or cash management deliberately chose to issue a paper check that will arrive in the mail. Their way of getting defensive for calling them on their bad service. And NO apology issued either. If you do business there check your vehicle and make sure the work was done. I took my car in because the check engine light was on. This was a Monday i was told the ran a diagnostic and determined my rear wheel speed sensor was not working and they could fix it same day. As i was ready to leave because i needed to be i. To work i was informed i can not be done that day and it took over an hour for them to get me my car back from that point making me very late to work. I agreed to prepay and come back next day. My check engine light turns off same day, i thought it could be a fluke and that it will come back on because obviously they tested the sensor and it wasn't working. I take it in the next day for it to worked and was told there was a shuttle i could take to work, that was a lie and i had to pay for an uber when i could have arranged for my boyfriend to pick me up had i know there was no shuttle service. I talk to the mechanic there as why my light isn't on anymore if the sensor is bad and he told me it may not even be the sensor wheel bearing can cause a sensor read error. I get a call late afternoon saying they didn't fix my car because the part never came in. That is when i asked did they look at my wheel bearings because if the sensor isn't the problem i don't want to replace it for no reason, the mechanic proceeded to tell me my wheel bearings were fine. At this point i am curious as to how the diagnoses that the sensor was out. When i call back to cancel the repair because now i have doubts that the part they want to fix is even broken they inform they can't. I asked did they actually diagnose that the sensor wasn't working and they said the computer told them which is a lie because all the computer can tell is it read an irregularity which can have many causes. So with out doing an verification that my sensor was actually bad they misdiagnosed my car. When i brought this fact up with Jesus he informed me wouldn't even know how to check the sensor, which makes me upset that he should of said that it is not in his skill set. Then he switches the story to my wheel bearings are bad and then i inform him then why the hell would i replace my speed sensor if the bearings are bad. He tries to back track and yelled me the bad bearing will ruin the sensor but another mechanic at the same location already told me bearings are fine and if that was the issue bearing would need to be fixed not sensThey refused to refund my money for a service that was not needed and never provided. I use to come to brake check for my maintenance issues because of proximity to my job and will never go back now. Update: the only issue with my car was with my battery, i replaced it and everything is fine. I am currently in dispute of the charge with my bank since it is a service not rendered and not needed, very disappointed in this company that they allowed a simple manner turn into such a huge issue that has lost not only this customer but is effectively having me tell all my coworkers at one of the City's largest companies to avoid this shop like the plague. Very disappointed with the overall service at this location when it came to handling a messed up alignment job that they caused. It is about 5-7 after their "30 day" window to fix an alignment job that has my 2 back tires facing slightly inward. Due to this negligence, I have had to replace my tires 2 times within 30 days costing me well over $400 in repairs and replacement tires that shouldn't had been replaced in the first place. I called to see what they could do for me and brake check said nothing. I will never go back to brake check for any type of service moving forward. No empathy or sense of professionalism from this establishment. read more

I needed an oil change and my wipers replaced. I headed over while my spouse called to confirm they can do an oil change and change the wipers today since I didn't have an appointment and they told me yes it could be done today. I go and drop off my car, I wait for a good 5 minutes until someone from outside came and talked to me while I was waiting at the counter and they could see I was waiting through the window. I go back to pick up my car after to have the guy say they couldn't replace the wipers today, that's why it was cheaper. I asked why not and he said they didn't have blades.. what? My car is nothing fancy, why wouldn't they have the blades? I wasn't given an apology was just told that's why the price is cheaper than I was informed when I dropped the car off. Once I get to my car there is greasy oily finger prints (my car is white) all on my door. On the inside of the car there was a huge wipe of grease on my AC button. Will not return. read more

The technician actually tampered with my brake caliper dust boots in an effort to sell me new ones. This is wrong in so many ways. My family rides in this car! I wouldn't take your car here. I took my car in the get my brake changed. After many attempts at up sales that I declined they finally got to work on my car. I also feel they purposely did a bad job. They did not pump the front brake making it align wrong causing it to hit the rotor. I don't know if they skipped this step thinking I would bring it back and complain, but I would never bring my car back to someone who failed at their job. First off, I suggest reading the "FILTERED" reviews. They seem to be more recent and reflect the service I received. I even saw one of the other reviewers there and can vouch for the service he received. Went in today 9/6/12 at 5:30 and got my alignment and tire balance done in an hour. These guys were the best brake check I have ever taken my vehicles to. I work in the mechanic industry and know great customer service when I see it. I appreciate outstanding customer service and I will be using this brake check in the future for serious brake work and alignments. They have a great oil change program running that ends up slightly more expensive than doing your own oil changes. That is hard to come by. I stood in the shop the whole time and watched the mechanics work and they were very pleasant and courteous. Not once did anyone try to up-sale me on parts or labor. That is class, given the common joe knows little about car maintenance. I was also there when the gentleman who brought his taxi in, came to pick his taxi up. It was after closing when he arrived and the management was congenial and still took the time to go over all of the work done and he even got to shake hands with the technician who worked on his vehicle. I highly recommend this shop for work, they are trustworthy, honest, respectful, and quick. Thanks a ton guys and I will see y'all in a few months for another alignment. I took my car here to get an alignment and a rotation this morning and they did absolutely nothing but rip me off. Little did they know that I can differentiate my wheels because one of them is scratched. I got my car back after they "fixed" it and the wheels were all in the same place. I even spoke to the manager to complain and even he lied and said they did the rotation. This place is crooked and just want your money. After driving my car that was obviously not aligned, I took it to another brake check and they told me absolutely nothing was done. They even told me they couldn't do it because my car needs a part replaced to fix the alignment. The values of this business is to be able to trust the people that work there but in reality they're nothing but scammers. I have already contacted corporate. Worst place ever. read more

We needed to take a trip to Fredricksburg and my car was in major need of an oil change, this Brake Check was the closest business we could find open on a Sunday. We stopped in to have the vehicle serviced and where pretty pleased with the staff and prices. We got in and out with in about 30 minutes, the cost was only about 35 bucks for a synthetic oil blend on an full size suv. I was informed that the 4th oil change is free and that they are official sponsors of our beloved spurs so I'll give them another shot. My tires where a little low and could have used some air but they did not catch that and I forgot to bring it to their attention so no biggie, over all had a good experience. read more

On 10/02/12 after contacting the better business bureau, I was contacted by Lewis, the district manager that kept telling me my ball joints were bad, and was asked to take my truck to one of his shops and have the shop look at it. I met Jerry, the store director aka the reason this update 2 stars instead of 1, who was very eager to get the truck on the alignment rack and get this alignment situation straight. They got the truck aligned correctly, even though the other 3 times, Lewis told me it wouldn't do any good since my ball joints were "bad". But his "bad" ball joints have coated me two tires and at least $100 in fuel if not more. My recommendations are to not deal with Lewis, either deal with the store director or the person above Lewis. read more

Terrible quality and customer service. Had break pads replaced and rotors resurfaced, and now my breaks grind at every stop. I took it back, and was told that it would cost more to fix. The issue never occurred before they did the work. Similar outcome with my oil change. Oil leaking ever since they changed the oil. Their response was, you guessed it, more money to fix a problem that didn't exist until they worked on it. I can't speak for all locations, but do yourself a favor and stay away from this one. The manager, Charles, is only concerned with selling. He will say anything to make a sale. DO NOT TRUST HIM. Get a second opinion. Please do yourself a favor and do NOT go to this Brake Check. I was a loyal customer since 2011 to a Brake Check on the southside and thought this place would be the same. I went in for an oil change and my engine started jerking and shaking immediately until finally the engine just shut off. They came out to pick up my car and fix it (just a block or so away) and they told me that they simply put my air filter in backwards. They ran a diagnostics check and said everything was fine so I drove off and not even five minutes later my engine shut off again!! I was in the middle of traffic and on an uphill so I had to slam on my brakes before I hit the car behind me. When I told them about it there was no sense of urgency or empathy that this even happened to me. They kept my car over night and the next morning they told me it was due to an O2 sensor going out and they patronized me by saying that it was a "freak" occurrence or simply a coincidence that this happened right after my oil change. I decided to get a second opinion and took my car to the Gunn Honda dealership instead and they told me that the debris from the air filter that Brake Check moved or "put in backwards" melted onto the wires of the Mass airflow sensor, causing the MAF sensor to be replaced. Since my car was not drivable nor was I comfortable going back to Brake Check I had Gunn Honda do the work. I was expecting Brake Check to do the right thing and pick up the almost $500 tab for Gunn Honda's work since they failed to diagnose my problem the first 2 times. They of course didn't. I talked to several people within Brake Check and they all robotically said the same thing. They said an oil change is a straightforward process from one end to another and that the issue has nothing to do with the oil change. Of course it had nothing to do with the oil change it had to do with the air filter that they admitted touching for no reason at all. The fact that the only debris found in the MAF was air filter debris should have been enough. My favorite is when they said that the "diagnostics" system didn't tell them the problem, its like they're not even trained to think. They instead solely rely on a machine that doesn't give them a solution. I contacted corporate and twice they gave me the wrong email to the person in charge of operations. It wasn't until I confirmed with them the email address that I found online that they told me or rather verified the right email. I called every day for a week and every day the operations person was "out of the office." One week later, I finally got a response saying that my emails were forwarded to the "Corporate Director." I thought, "great, finally!" Then I learned the Corporate Director is the equivalent to the manager of the very Brake Check that was not holding themselves accountable for the problem. Needless to say that went no where. I was without my car for 6 days.Never again... read more

Now I know why this particular Brake Check(store #418 at 13495 IH-10 West) scored a two and a half rating of all the San Antonio stores,,it is because of the non-professional,poorly trained management staff and under qualified technicions supporting this location.I took my 1997 Buick Riviera in for a four wheel alignment,the vehicle having a life-time alignment warranty for well over 17 years,and yes there have been good,solid alignments done by the Brake Check crew on this vehicle at other stores in San Antonio,but at this particular time,that being Thrusday Jan.4th.2018 at 11:00am,the technical staff was having a difficult time of trying to set the rear-toe on this vehicle,this being the first thing that they were trying to set,I informed the management staff of the difficulties that the tech,s were having,this bringing all 4 management types out of the office to see what was up..I was then told everything from rear control-arm bushings being worn out(which was not supported by the senior tech) to being told toe-in concentrics were maxed out,after a unreasonable amount of time on trying to fix the problem which was steadly getting worse and further out of alignment,an attitude of us against them(us being management,them being me the customer) I then ask that work be stopped and I would leave to not only get away from a un-comfortable attitude,but to try to figure out what to do...I made an appointment for Monday,Jan.8th,2018 at my local Buick dealership where the vehicle was properly aligned in no time with no indication of suspension component adverse wear that would inhibit proper alignment. If I could rate Brake Check less than 1 star, I would. After being told by my mechanic it may be a good idea to get my brakes checked, I took my vehicle to this location. Although no present need to replace brakes, I was sold on replacing my brake pads for almost $400. The day following my appointment my brakes began screeching and grinding in a way that was previously unheard. I spoke on the phone with the manager and tried to return the next day. I could tell he was agitated that I had to return and told me I would need to make an appointment. 6 days later I returned to the location and the spent a couple minutes looking at the brake pads once more. After that brief inspection I was once again sent on my way. Following the second visit, my brakes once again began making horrible noises and shaking when I reach speeds above 65 MPH. I tried to make an appointment again on multiple occasions but my schedule always conflicted (I was a full time law student; wrote on the journal; worked 30 hours a week). I finally had the time to come in again after almost a year. When I returned they informed me although I purchased the limited warranty, they would still charge me at a pro rata rate. Basically, because the warranty covered two years and I had used up half of it, I would have to split the cost with them. Obviously, as any normal person would, I thought that was absurd. I had made them aware of my displeasure and wish to enforce the warranty on multiple occasions prior to my third visit there. I refused to pay! I then sent Brake Check a demand letter seeking reimbursement for my expenses. The manager clearly couldn't understand the language but called me and said he would look at the brakes for a fourth time, but not reimburse me. Again, as any sane person would, I refused to allow a company that has proven to be incompetent the ability to look at my brakes again. Now, unfortunately my only option is to bring suit.
