It really is a very cool space. Kevin Szymanski is the house engineer and has worked with lots of famous bands you know-from Foo Fighters, to Matchbox 20, to John Hiatt, to Queens of the Stone Age to Faith Hill. If you are recording in Austin, you need to check this place out. If you are not recording in Austin, you should re-think those plans and come to Austin to record. It's a cool music town, and 12th Street Sound also just happens to be about one mile from Franklin's BBQ, which Bon Appetit calls the best BBQ joint in the U.S.

His ears, attitude, and professionalism impressed me, and I will be recommending him to friends. I'm a hobbyist home recorder and have been working on a demo for a new project. I found East Side Tone through Yelp and set up a couple hours with Eric to get a second set of ears on my mix. He was an excellent teacher and demonstrated mastery of his craft. Sitting in the control room with him, he exudes creativity and positive energies. You do not feel 'on the clock' or like you're purchasing a commodified product. Although we only spent a couple hours mixing, I could see how valuable Eric's creative input would be in each phase of production. If you're considering buying a couple hours of studio time for one facet of your album, I would urge you to consider booking a couple of days with Eric and have him guide you end-to-end. Other places I checked out either had monthly rates only, or you had to bring your own cymbals. Coming from out of town, that wouldn't work for me. The space was roomy with everything you needed to hook up your laptop or any instrument you play. I was able to get in for an hourly rate which was super affordable. I went in late from 11pm - 2am and what impressed me most is that Patrick acknowledged that I was a woman out late alone and he let me know he was one phone call away if I needed him and ensured the door was locked for my safety. If I ever make it back to Austin, I will definitely stop here to practice!

Either this place has really gone down hill in recent years or these reviews are fake…read more They describe it like "We supply top notch, great sounding rehearsal rooms for the most discerning musicians..." what a joke. It's nice to have a rehearsal space north of Austin. This one however is a pit. the photos online are misleading. the spaces are tiny, filthy and the smell was unbearable. The bigger problem was a lack of sound dampening. a rock band was rehearsing in the space next to us and we could barely hear ourselves think. For the record, I'm not a Prima Donna. I don't expect much from a rehearsal space. However, showing large, clean rooms on the website while delivering cramped, carpet stained stink holes is misleading. clearly the owners have zero pride and believe that musicians don't care. Make the trip down south to Space. the extra 20 miles is nothing. This is not a professional rehearsal space. Perhaps it's fine for garage bands, but pro players will be put off by it. As a band leader it reflects poorly on my professionalism.
