It was nice working with Kfir because he has a very positive attitude and makes sure everything possible is done to make the recordings sound the way I want them. Rom is a pro level drummer and was able to write specific drum tracks that fit each song perfectly in a short period of time. Kevin Abbenante mixed the recordings and they couldnt sound any better. It has magic. You can't ask for much better than this in a studio. Here's why Jason is incredible and why you need to employ him for your recording needs: First, Jason as an engineer is exceptional. He has chops as both a guitarist as well as an engineer. He knows Nuendo inside and out, he knows his mics inside and out, he knows his outboard gear inside and out, and he knows his room inside and out. Guitarists who are finicky about tone need not look any further than him. He'll get you there. Second, he listened to exactly what I wanted before we recorded. I tend to be a fan of very minimally recorded songs. I like to record with no EQ or reverb. I love the idea of mixing with the mics, setting them up to get the optimal sound first. Jason listened very patiently about this aesthetic and helped me achieve it. Third, he works HARD for you. He is a ridiculously hard worker, stopping at nothing to make sure that you are satisfied with what you have. Fourth, he is flexible. Want to record all analog? Jason can do it. Want to do an audiobook? He's got your back. You want to do a drum overdub? He's on it. Want to simply get a piece of music off your phone and onto a professional studio recording system and make it sound badass? Jason is the guy you need to talk to. About halfway through the final portion of the program, I have to say that TRCoA has given me the…read moretools, knowledge and experience required to prepare me for the challenges that await in such a competitive industry. There is a lot of individual responsibility required to make it through the course successfully. The school is structured in a way that revolves around your drive and motivation. That is to say there isn't help along the way. I've made some really great friends through my time at TRCoA, and everyone is really supportive. There's a real sense of community and camaraderie with the instructors and other students in the curriculum. On an institutional level, John and the staff help you through the whole recording, mixing and mastering process. From booking my first band to mastering my first project, I never really felt lost or overwhelmed. John's hand picked instructors are also key parts to why I enjoy TRCoA so much. Everyone is very knowledgeable, friendly and able to help you with any issue or problem you may run into. I'd say one of the biggest advantages is the unfettered access to the studio. 24/7/365. The doors are wide open and ultimately work around what schedule works best for you. I've spent my fair share of nights up until 530a mixing and on other days I've woken up at 6a just to get in early. I can't even imagine how another recording school would teach the material effectively without that much practical, hands-on access to the gear. The only reason I've marked 4/5 is because the program might not be for everyone. As I had mentioned earlier, I never felt overwhelmed....but there definitely isn't a lot of hand-holding either. If you're unable to make the project deadlines or contact artists on a regular basis you'll fall behind. That said, my time at The Recording Conservatory of Austin has been fantastic. The main 'live' room is encased by huge windows that look out over the Austin Hill Country.. trees and blue skies abound. The room has high ceilings and a great natural reverb.. no effects needed. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and they made us feel at home... and I'd definitely make a return visit for some more recording.
