I've been coming to Joy since April and have seen the benefits of her work in my life. Everyone close to me has. I called just about every Neurofeedback person in LA and OC and, while they were all engaging and bright, I got the sense they were sort of working from templates...come in for a brain map, do some analysis, come up with protocols, and go. Joy leaves so much room for each unique brain and how it responds over time. And she's so passionate about it still...it's amazing. Joy has been deeply involved in the field all along, so not only is she a talented practitioner, she's a walking textbook. She can answer any question and do it in a way, with metaphors especially, that makes even the most complex stuff easy to understand. The biggest question seems to be, "how does just sitting here looking at a monitor...without even having to think about it...help me so much more quickly and thoroughly than years' worth of other modalities?" Joy was amazing to work with! I saw significant improvement in my sleep and improvement in my breathe. Throughout our time, I became more mindful and aware. Specifically, in dealing with moments where my trauma and anxiety would rise to surface. I was able to start to gain the skills where I did not have to feed into those moments and handle them in a manner where I felt in control, and understand I was feeling anxious because of xyz; and instead I feel more confident in being able to give those moments the healthy nurtrients they need, if you will. I honestly don't know where I would be right now without Joy and Brain Potential! I went to see Joy for some help with a serious case of (garden-variety) depression, and she whipped my brain into shape and gave me a new lease on life. After trying many other types of therapy and treatment, this was the most effective -- practically a miracle, no side effects,no having to take a pill every day for the rest of your life. Brain potential is Joy Lunt! Joy is not a talk therapist but she is a top notch practitioner of the noninvasive tool called neurofeedback. If you are looking for therapy, look else where. But if you are looking for tools to help you through a healing process, Joy is your person. I went to Brain Potential to treat a very extreme case of OCD a few years ago. Joy was very effective and eliminated the problem so well that I have come back again to be treated for sleep apnea. I highly recommend neuro feedback, and Joy specifically, for the unobtrusiveness (it doesn't physically force your brain to change chemically like pharmaceuticals do), it's ease (all you have to do is sit in a super comfy chair and watch a screen, no exposure to triggers) and it's unrivaled effectiveness (I was prescribed quadruple the recommended maximum dose of an anti-anxiety medication, now I take nothing and have few to no symptoms). Working with Joy herself has also been a delight! She is super kind and has a very warm personality. I always feel that I am in great hands and I look forward to the sessions! I started my painful journey on September 1, 2013 with industrial anxiety-insomnia-sadness-no appetite-feeling of enclosure-PTSD and premenopausal symptoms. My husband Eric "I call him my Angel" and I were so worried and scared of what I was going through that throughout the next 2 looong and painful years we went to over 20 different doctors tons of different drugs which most of them gave me horrible side affects and different procedures including a brain scan and spending over $20,000 (we put everything on credit cards going into massive debt) with no solution to my situation. There were many times my Angel and I would just go to church and cry and beg Our Lord for HELP! after so many painful experiences, procedures and desperate situations we went through, finally God heard our prayers, my Angel came across on yelp and found Joy (Brain Potential) he spoke to Joy for over 45 minutes on the phone. I am an RN who was diagnosed with severe depression and panic disorder 35 years ago. I am now 63. Although I was on medication, I began having panic that lasted 10 hours or more until I finally went to an ER or urgent care center for relief by Ativan. I had also suffered greatly from addiction to Klonopin which was prescribed by my psychiatrist. My life had crumbled. I was desperate and feeling suicidal. After 30 sessions of neurofeedback, I am now a new person. I no longer have panic, anxiety or depression. I fall asleep within minutes and after 8 hours, I wake up refreshed. I first started doing neurofeedback with Joy in October of 2016 for depression. I had struggled with depression since I was 8 years old (I was 29 at the time) and had tried everything from cognitive behavior therapy to anti-depressants for treatment, but I found that, while both helped, therapy didn't help address the physical nature of my depression and anti-depressants only left me feeling numb and plagued with plenty of other unpleasant side effects. After researching neurofeedback quite heavily and receiving glowing recommendations for Joy, I decided to try it out. After only a few weeks of sessions with Joy I quite honestly found myself fundamentally changed. I no longer had the lingering fog of depression weighing on me in day and day out as I had experienced consistently all those years before. And I also did not have any side effects that pills inevitably entail. I was so happy with my experience that I came back to Joy in Oct. of 2018 for treatment for OCD and trauma related issues, and as with the depression treatment, after a few weeks of treatment I found myself no longer experiencing the trauma related triggers or OCD looping obsessive thoughts that I had been plagued with since childhood. Easily the best thing I've ever done for myself. Because of Neurofeedback I am a better Mother, Wife, daughter, friend and employee.
