Great time at goat yoga! The goats stay with you the entire time and are very involved. The instructor was great and patient and friendly. The staff in charge of goats are very attentive and helpful and friendly.

Great farm with lots of different activities for the family to interact with their goats! They have about 20-30 goats in their herd and a few chickens. We went to the fairy goat-mothers event. You get one hour to walk around the pasteur and feed your goat. You can request a specific goat or they'll choose one for you. All the goats are adorable and there are even baby goats! Some are more obdient and friendlier than others. We chose Buckwheat. He was a great goat companion, but mainly only cared about food. Not the best if you want to hug him though. He also knows a trick! Say "Buckwheat, shake" and he may raise his hoof for you to shake!

This was a last minute thing. I found the events online and was able to quickly buy the online tickets for "Goat Snuggles" for 30 min. GPS had no problems getting us there. And, parking was fine, too. It was a scheduled event so everyone found a spot. We checked in with Terri and went to wash our hands at the portable sink. Every group received a leash; and, every person their own goat treats. Before we headed over to the back, Terri went over the rules (adults must always hold the leash - tight and close to their body) and tips to keep the goats happy. Everyone kept their masks on. Some brought blankets to sit on. The goats were friendly. All in all, it was a fun event. The kids were happy so we were happy, too! Tip: Don't forget to sign the online waiver! I had to have my husband complete his waiver on his phone because it seems I only did it for self and the kids.

This is a bit on the pricey side as far as goat yoga goes, but you will not be disappointed. There are SO MANY GOATS. Big ones and little ones and they are all so sweet. The little ones absolutely love jumping on backs. The yoga was at a beginner level, but honestly the goats make it very difficult to actually do the yoga. They lay on your mat and come over and ask for petting. Absolutely amazing, everyone should do it

Picture rows of…read moreapples stretching into the horizon -- the perfect backdrop for those fall golden-hour photos. During my visit, the trees were full of Pink Lady, Evercrisp, Red Delicious, and Empire apples. After tasting these fresh, juicy picks straight from the tree, I don't think I can go back to store-bought apples - not that I really have a choice! Every bite was crisp perfection, and honestly, this might become an annual tradition for me. You can choose from a few bag sizes when you go apple-picking: Large ($40) - labeled at 30 lbs Medium ($25) - labeled at 12-15 lbs Small ($15) - labeled at 7-8 lbs Separate from the orchard, there's a large open field that's perfect for picnics, with plenty of seating and cozy fire pits to keep you warm. It's a beautiful, family-friendly space -- kids running around, birthday celebrations happening, and couples just relaxing in the fall breeze. You don't need to pick apples or pay any additional fees to enjoy this area, which is a big plus. Bring your own chairs if you want extra comfort. There were three food trucks on-site during my visit. My favorite was Pika Food Truck -- their Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich was delicious. Chef O's Streatery offered empanadas but they weren't my favourite-- a bit too salty and lacking flavor. We also tried a flight of ciders, which was such a fun way to sample different seasonal flavors. Before you leave, make sure to check out the scenic overlook -- it's stunning, especially with the fall foliage. I loved that they even had a tripod set up for easy photo-taking. Rogers Orchards truly captures everything great about fall -- fresh apples, good food, cozy vibes, and community. They accept cards, which makes checkout super easy.

The pie crust was home made, flaky, delicious (unlike the frozen pie crust I use when asked to make a pie). The fruit selection was tasty, this priced about $20.00!) I have fine pie places near where I live but Rogers is better, in my opinion. Take the family, pick fruit, buy a pie, donuts, et al -- you'll have an enjoyable family experience. Let's continue to patronize all CT orchards to keep them in business! Fine family tradition (lose the cell phones for the day)! Tootsie

ORIGIN: Founded by Woodbury native James Wargo and opened in…read more2020, Hidden Gem Orchard is aptly named. LOCATION: Wargo leases land that is part of the Southbury Training School property, a campus that was once a fully self-sustaining community. I first came upon it on in 2020 on my way to the nearest highway, and was surprised to find activity in an otherwise abandoned-looking area of the vast property -- at height of a pandemic no less! The orchard is located behind some agricultural structures that reflect a more active past, and invite some interesting photo opportunities. CONCEPT: The founder of Hidden Gem Orchard, James Wargo, has expertise in soil management and crop production. Wargo works closely with esteemed Cornell University pomologist, Ian Merwin, PhD, to grow both new and antique varieties of apples. EXPERIENCE: As a result, a visit is like opening a treasure chest of uncommonly seen and tasted apples, such as Esopus Spitzenberg, a favorite of Thomas Jefferson. A visit to the orchard is tranquil, not a spectacle with crowds, music, and lines. The focus is growing and sharing a love for apples, rather than weekend entertainment. Pick your own in the orchard, or pick up at farm stand. TIP: "Imperfect" apples are available at discounted price. Look out for apple pastries prepared by local baker, Horsehill Provisions.

Initially the farm's main crop was strawberries, and thus the farm was named Strawberry Hollow Farm for their main crop and for the hollow that it sits in. Harvey's government work as a research wildlife biologist took him out of the country and away from his farm in June, the most important month for strawberries. By 1981, Harvey transitioned from growing strawberries to growing members of the pumpkin family, because the growing schedule for pumpkins matched his work schedule. When he retired in 2001, Harvey realized his dream to farm his land full time. In addition to farming crops, Strawberry Hollow Farm also has a small gift shop where they sell various crafts. My family and I recently visited Strawberry Hollow Farm for the first time. There are so many different varieties of pumpkins and other various gourds on display, and their mums were just breathtaking. My wife and I dressed our son like Linus from "Peanuts". There were several spots on the farm for us to stage a "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" photo shoot. In addition to jack-o-lantern pumpkins and sugar pumpkins, Harvey cultivates giant pumpkins that can weigh up to 300 pounds (the kind that you see at a County Fair). The craft shop was really cool too; lots of Autumn and Halloween decorations. In the winter months, everything is themed around Christmas decorations. We purchased a couple of sugar pumpkins to take with us. We enjoyed our time at Strawberry Hollow Farm and we plan on returning in the future.

They go out of their way, even on busy days, to answer any questions you have about the produce, the farm, or anything else about the area that you want to know. They keep the place looking great all season long (both the "you pick" fields and the indoor store. The most attractive thing about this farm share upon first glance was the great hours. You can go Saturdays from 10-3, and W-F from 1-630PM to pick up your share. These hours are unbeatable compared to other CSAs in Western Mass and they make it easier for busy people with odd work schedules to participate, which I appreciate. I also appreciate that they have THREE farm share sizes to chose from. I strongly recommend getting the largest one, and getting a buddy (or buddies) and sharing it, it is a great deal and a ton of produce! The prices and how everything works is clearly spelled out on their website so you can check it out before you head there. The produce selection is also pretty awesome. We are never bored. My favorite part about farm shares is that it forces you to eat way more vegetables than you probably would otherwise, and it also forces you to be creative with recipes and explore new dishes to cook. The U-Pick component is also a lot of fun, especially if you have kiddos. The current U-Pick selection is quite robust, unlike other farm shares where you just pick a handful of items and you're out. The fresh herbs alone are enough to make the U-pick worth every ounce of sweat required to pick them on a hot summer day. Finally, I must comment on the view. I attached some pictures to make that point. Being at the base of Mt Tom provides beautiful views as you are out in the field picking produce. It definitely makes you stop for a moment, take a deep breath, and smile. I strongly recommend this place!

Then one day we drove right by Grants, made a speedy u-turn, and trundled up to see what the deal was. At the front, there was a farmer's market of sorts with pre-picked produce at a slightly higher price, but with marked convenience. We were told it works by weight, and were handed baskets for raspberries, and buckets for blueberries, so off we went! The raspberries were first, with encouragement to taste as we went. The raspberries were plentiful, juicy, sweet, and soft, just bursting with flavor. After our baskets were full, we went to the blueberry enclosure, and had a great time picking the plump, tart berries in handfuls from the forehead height bushes, just teeming with the blue gems. There was also pick your own tomatoes and strawberries, but we were so excited to get home with what we had, it was enough for us! For two completely full baskets of raspberries, and a giant bucket of blueberries, it cost us a mere $7something. It would have cost us twice that at the market for just the blueberries! Cash only but a great price, and a super fun time, I would highly recommend it. Family friendly, easy access, and a perfect way to encourage healthy local eating, Grants is the best!
