I had originally considered the Hampton, and 15 days before my arrival in Rochester, I discovered The Inn. It had a comparable price but maybe not as much breakfast choices. Two days later, when I went to make my reservation at the Hampton, I discovered that they raised their room rates 15% since the last time I checked... supply and demand on their part I guess. Well, that made The Inn rate more than competitive, and the obvious choice for my stay. The Inn does offer a light continental breakfast, but they offer some things I wouldn't have gotten elsewhere. One was the charm of an older building with nice renovations. My room had more "character" than I would have had otherwise, and that included a large antique bathtub and a gas fireplace. Every person with whom I interacted was incredibly friendly and helpful. Vanni's Lounge downstairs was fun as well (separate review). And I got a slight discount for having a 3rd night in my reservation on a weeknight. I think that was a fair trade-off for missing out on a few Honors points.

Recently enjoyed a delightful stay at The Inn on Broadway…read more Truly, what a gem of an inn. I was traveling for work and was meant to fly from White Plains to Rochester mid week. However, the stormy weather had my flight delayed, delayed, delayed. Seeing that I'd be pulling into Rochester later and later, I decided to see about driving. This got me to Rochester earlier in the evening but I was pooped. The Inn on Broadway offered a warm welcome after a hectic day of travel. They have easy parking very close to the entrance (felt very safe). They offer valet if you're heading there for the restaurants but they don't valet for guests of the inn. Again, not a big deal because the parking is so convenient. The lobby is gorgeous. I was there during the holidays and it was tastefully decorated and brought the festive vibes. The woman at the front desk was excessively kind and got me all checked in. I was tired and really just wanted to order deliver (doordash etc) to my hotel room. I wasn't certain if this was ok with the restaurant in house but fortunately, she assured me it was fine and even hand delivered my door dash order to my room (in addition to giving me recommendations for a garbage plate, a Rochester specialty--I still haven't had one but my next visit I'm determined!) My room was completely comfortable. It was the perfect size to feel cozy without being too small. There was a window seat by the window which offered a nice view of the city. I love that they have Aveda shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the shower (as well as lotion and hand soap by the sink). Aveda is top notch and it's nice not to sacrifice quality hair care while traveling. I honestly have nothing but the best things to say about my stay here and wouldn't hesitate to stay again. Get to it!

I would give the Rose Garden bed and Breakfast five stars if not for the bed. Yes, even factoring…read morethe ever-so-essential bed into the equation, I would rate this a 4. The proprietors, Cindy and Lou, were wonder, warm and friendly hosts. They made us feel right at home. The bed and breakfast was clean and tastefully decorated. I generally prefer a less homey feel, but the Rose Garden was quite nice. Flowers adorned the entrance and spilled over into a beautiful backyard garden, giving the place a lovely, homey feel. As for breakfast, the breakfast was delicious. It was delicious with just the right balance of decadence and moderation. The first morning we had blueberry waffles, cooked to absolute perfection, with grilled pineapple and a small side of scramble eggs. Lou has a passion for cooking and it is shows through in the breakfast. As for the bed, the bed was, unfortunately, the most uncomfortable I have slept on in recent memory. We stayed in the English Rose Room. We had a roomy king-sized bed, but I had to move to the day bed to sleep because the bed was just too uncomfortable. It was too hard, yet not quite supportive. I am a sensitive sleeper and have a great bed at home, so everyone may not have this experience. I did, however. We found that the problem could be solved by sleeping on top of the blankets for an added level of comfort. I think a feather bed or a new mattress would make this the perfect B&B in Rochester. If you can sleep on a hard, inner-spring mattress, you will absolutely love this place.

Everything was in its place, the king size bed was huge enough to get lost in, the private bathroom was a bonus and the highlight of this overnight was a spectacular gluten free breakfast that is reason alone to return. I wish Cindy and Lou every coming success and hope that you all have the pleasure of visiting their warm nest very soon.

It is cluttered with Victorian-style furniture and knick-knacks which makes it feel very homey. Since it is a modified old house the soundproofing isn't that great, but when I was there it wasn't busy so it wasn't a problem. The proprietors are very friendly and live on site in an attached set of rooms (the B & B kitchen is their kitchen as well). They are willing to accommodate any dietary needs - just tell them ahead of time so they can purchase the appropriate food for breakfast. Breakfast is served formally in the dining room (on fine china!) at whatever time you request. You are able to make yourself tea whenever you need, and I was able to use the fridge to store some leftovers I had. I highly recommend spending the extra $15 for the Rose room - the jacuzzi was really nice after a long work day!

Saturday afternoon fun! Buy your ticket and hop aboard for Flights N' Bites (or whichever Portage…read moretour you're considering). Drinks, food, adventure, and new friends - everything is included. Important to understand- you don't NEED to gather a group or plan ahead to enjoy Rochester's food/drink scene. I loved how you just reserve a seat and take "flight". We were celebrating our anniversary, another couple was celebrating a birthday, others were simply exploring... We started with private tour/tasting @ a distillery, sipped yummy hard cider flights, and enjoyed craft beer tasting at a microbrewery - with snacks along the way. in addition to being very gracious hosts, Jeff & Susan (owners and guides), showed us historic places, beautiful wall art, and shared some unique Rochester history. The bus was comfy & spacious, with places to keep our purchases. With a built-in adventure and safe driver, a Portage Tour would be a perfect girls night, afternoon with out-of-town guests, or birthday celebration (and you don't need to pedal. lol.). Highly recommend for Rochesterians & out-of-town guests alike.

So here is my slightly biased review: PROS: Truly nice couple who are fun to chat with. Old (really old) funky, farm house with a museum of antiques inside. Pretty, rural countryside. At night, VERY quiet and dark outside, if that's your thing. Close to lots of fresh veggie farm stands. Close to Lake Ontario. Ask about pet policy. CONS: Musty house - as all old homes are. A bit dark inside. Very steep narrow stairs to room. Linens are not white (can you "sanitize" multi-colored linens?) Window air conditioners. So, if you like the idea of a more homey, personal approach to lodging and love antiques, this is the place for you.

They have done a beautiful job of preserving the look and feel of a historical home in the middle of rolling hills, cornfields and country roads. We have passed many a peaceful hour on their spacious and comfortable front porch listening to the crickets and birds, watching the magnificent show of stars each night, reading and often chatting with these two fascinating owners. The beds and linens are very comfortable and all the amenities are available. Christine is a terrific cook and we enjoyed lovely breakfasts of omelets, blueberry pancakes, lemon scones, luscious fruits, etc. We came to the area to bike on the Erie Canal and felt like we were coming "home" each afternoon to a warm and welcoming place. We can also give a shout out to the incredible pizza served up at The Rooster in downtown Brockport near the Canal. I would recommend The White Farm with no hesitations.
