I took the 90 minutes tour through Lock 32, which goes through it, tours a bit, and turns around. Light refreshments including beer and wine are available. The tour guides are well informed and the staff very friendly. It's a pleasant and educational trip. Adults pay $30, with lower fees for seniors, military and kids. Very much worthwhile.

Last October, when the Fall color was at its peak, I decided to take another canal tour. A lunch tour to lock 32. At the last minute a friend wanted to join me. I called the office, and they were able to accommodate us, but not able to get the lunch for her. We had a blast. We shared the Fairport Lunch, drank seltzer water and beer and shared the boat with a group on a surprise tour that ended on the canal tour. This trip was completely different from my previous one in the opposite direction. The experiences were different and the colors of the foliage enviable; gold, reds, oranges. The weather was perfect, partly cloudy, and then the sun broke and warmth came up and we had a sunny day Toward the end of the ride, the wind started to pick up. Along the way there were historical facts given by the crew. And we sang the famous "Low Bridge" song I was very happy, and my friend was also impressed with the trip. I highly recommend this tour.

People dispersed when we got going, so I had a corner/window to myself. Captain Moby and Darla introduced themselves before we took off. Randy and Nick gave the bird tour. If you didn't have binoculars, they had a box of them you could borrow for no charge - a nice touch. A bit frustratingly, the tour guides stood up in the bow but if you weren't up there, you couldn't hear what they were saying. I can't stand comfortably for more than a few minutes due to an ankle issue, so I ended up missing much of what the tour guides said. We could really use the microphone piped into the entire boat. This was a very cool way to look at the Genesee River though, and we saw: mallard, great blue heron, seagull, swallow, Canada goose, sandpiper, egret, goldfinch, kingfisher, starling, redwing blackbird, possibly a green heron or other small heron, and turtles. We went from Corn Hill down to the Erie Canal and back again. I've never been on the Genesee in a boat and it was a cool experience - especially for the many egrets that I had no idea migrated to NYS. Well worth it for two folks who like birds and nature.

Hit wineries, a distillery and a brewery which was nice. Driver (Darryl) was a very nice guy even if he forgot my name and started calling me 'Steve' halfway through. That was pretty funny for the guys even if it was at my expense. Bus had plenty of room too, and we stayed on schedule without it being overbearing or annoying. Price point was fair given this was a 1/2 day tour with food/alcohol included. Brewery and distillery options couldn't have been better. Wagner brewing makes one of the best examples of hefeweizens I've had anywhere. Really great tap room overlooking the lake as well. Got a cheese plate there which was packed like shit in to-go containers, which belied the really good array of cheese, meat and accoutrements it included. Finger Lakes distilling was shockingly good. Their repertoire of whiskeys, including aged options, different styles (ie: pot stilled, applejack) and experiment stuff (cannoli whiskey) was superb. Had whiskey infused cigars here too which were awesome. I bought a shit ton of stuff from their. Surprisingly, I wasn't as thrilled with the wineries. Zugibe was respectable but paled to others nearby like Thirsty Owl; what threw me off was that the reds were much better than the whites there. Food there was gyros, which was odd but oddly good at least. Belhurst was probably the worst single winery I've ever been to, with the worst wine I've tried. Wine had a soapy taste and was cloyingly sweet. Bartender was snotty, rattled off some canned crap she memorized that was largely irrelevant, and didn't really know anything about wine. Place was largely a freaking gift shop, so no clue why they thought this was a good addition. Would use these guys again as Darryl was a sweetheart, and maybe just direct them a bit more in terms of what we're looking for. I am 100% fine with the emphasis being on beer/liquor, however the groom-to-be was more of a wine person in this case. Very workable either way.

Anyway, Jim, the tour salesguy assured us that the tours would cost more when we got to our hotel. As we were staying at the Marriott Fallsview (which is is not cheap) we had already said we would try and cut down on other "luxuries". Jim was right, the hotel tours were more expensive. We paid $84.97 total pp for a 4 hour tour which included Maid of the Mist, Journey Behind the Falls, and a few other stops. Nick, our tour guide picked us up on time and he was wonderful. Lots of jokes-- some were funny, the ones that weren't were still funny b/c they were cheesy. Overall, a great and informative guy--even told us where to get good, cheap food. Now, why is it cheaper than the other tours? While everyone else is riding around in the comfort of a climate controlled bus or one of those modern mini-bus/vans, we were shoveled into a white (off white due to age) 14 passenger dodge van. Yes, the regular old style dodge van. No climate control -- it was either too hot or when we opened the window to get air, the draft was killing me. I didn't say anything about the draft b/c I had already asked for the window to be opened. Stepping in and out of the van you could see massive rust. Seats were not comfortable b/c remember, you're in an old van. The saving grace of this tour was the great and informative tour guide, who also doubles as the driver, Nick, and the cost.

We started out at VB Brewery, where we enjoyed our flight of awesome beer, and then had a tour of the brewing facility itself (where we got a secret extra tasting!). From there, we headed to Lost Borough, where the beer was equally amazing (and a few of us may have ordered from Sticky Lips right around the corner, which is totally encouraged!). The final stop of the day was over in Webster at Knucklehead Craft Brewing. This brewery had my favorite beer of the day, the Knockout Stout. This brewery also has a kitchen where they serve some awesome food as well! I would definitely recommend TourRoc to anybody who is interested in craft beer, or to anybody who is interested in learning more about it and the Rochester beer scene in general. Probably the best thing about TourRoc is you literally just have to show up and you're set. Your ticket price includes EVERYTHING - luxury transportation, a flight of beer at each brewery (or for those of you who are gluten free, wine, cider, or cocktails as available), snacks and water on the tour bus, and all tips for the driver and tour director. You are also welcome to bring your own snacks and beverages (alcoholic or not) on the tour bus as well! It's obvious that the detail that went into creating the TourRoc experience that the owners truly love Rochester and have a passion for local craft beer. Can't wait to go on my next tour!

This is going to be a better deal than some of the other rental options, with 3 hours only setting you back $25. You can paddle to the left and see some of the UofR campus, but paddling to the right will allow you to head down the canal and see a lot more nature and views. Personalized and professional motorcoach tours can be a great way to sit back and enjoy your surroundings without the worries of navigating a new area. If you're struggling to plan every stop on your next vacation, allowing a professional company to arrange a motorcoach tour outing for your group will undoubtedly make your trip one to remember. Check out a few great reasons to plan one: * Reduce Stress: Rest and relaxation are hallmarks of any great vacation, but you can't expect to truly decompress and soak in the sights if you're concentrating on driving the entire trip. Motorcoach tours allow you to kick back and enjoy the scenery, landmarks, and events without any road anxiety. * Environmentally Friendly: Because of a more energy-efficient engine, a fully loaded tour bus is less impactful on the environment than a fully loaded car. The efficient and green engines also help to reduce emissions, meaning you can sight-see to your heart's content without carrying any carbon footprint guilt. * Time Efficient: Worrying about the best route to get to your destination or getting stymied by unexpected road construction and detours are problems of the past when you book motorcoach tours. Cover Wagon Tours are highly efficient, meaning there will be less wasted time on your tour and more time to enjoy your trip...
