She explained that she was going to drop her son off at school, leave her car, and walk to get a root canal. I was like... Whaaat? Why don't I drop you off, too? She thought about it and agreed to accept a ride to Apex Endodontics because she needed to take a sedative half an hour before the procedure (because she gets anxiety attacks)... AND... The staff wanted to see who was giving her a ride home. That's a good policy for the safety of the patient! They want to make sure that the patient doesn't drive under the influence! My friend explained where the office was located - on William Henry Road, across from Bank of Hawaii. I knew the building because I used to go to Zippy's next door (before it changed to Deans... And now, it's Café Kalawe). Easy! There's a free shared parking lot. So - the day arrived to exercise my chauffeuring skills. Everything went smoothly - before, during, and after the two-hour procedure! The reception area was clean, bright, and comfortable. The staff were friendly, prompt, and informative. She then pointed out on a front tooth she will fill another tiny area. WHAT? Another situation I was aware of and an issue for me but again, let's just leave it at that. I then told her I could previously feel it with my tongue. There's so much we can feel and detect on our teeth with our tongues; I can. We then had a chat and a good laugh on how common it is for patients to literally point with their tongue at a spot they feel on a tooth and say it's right here! So true! I've done it before. The method of both these 'fixes' was skillful applied coupled with technology of equipment and process which was quite a pleasant experience. Third call - I got to the office an hour before the appointment, so I called to see if it was okay to come in early. They told us no apt by name or no referring doctor information. Really? Fourth call on the day of the apt - they said we could come in at 4pm but the apt was for 3pm. I went to the office anyway because they told me to. After analyzing what happened, I have concluded that the staff made a mess of scheduling an apt, but no apology whatsoever. If you are doing an apt for a patient, please log it into your system while you are doing it. I don't see you in the system on the day of the apt is not acceptable. Incompetent staff. They wanted a referral so I sent it to the email address they gave me. First time "Oahu" was misspelled. Second time "surgery" was missing a "y". They called the referring doctor without asking me to verify the email address they gave me to send. I just resent the email the third time and it went through. The staff can't spell and can't do their jobs properly. Sigh. I hope the oral surgeon is not like the staff I dealt with. Overall, I am not impressed with this office at all. I am so glad I went through this before the actual oral surgery for my son. I firmly believe that things happen for a reason. The doctor asked me to delete the review bc it will deteimentally affect the business. If I were the business owner, I would be grateful to get good and bad feedback and improve accordingly based on the feedback. Why couldn't this be addressed when he was talking to me instead of asking me to remove the review? Finally, the office manager said she would check with the insurance company and send me an updated sheet with the cost the next day. It has been two weeks and nothing has been sent to us. I miss seeing the check in staff that is so friendly and personally greats me and makes me feel welcomed. This experience was impersonal and I felt that my personal information was at risk for being compromised. If this is the new "normal" for HFDC I may consider changing to a PPO dental plan so I can choose to go where I am welcomed by a real person.
