I came in for a same-day referral for a root canal that needed to be done immediately. I have not had one in probably 20+ years, because I am very hesitant as I had one get infected. In consultation with Dr. Shaik, who sincerely listened to my concerns, we decided this was the very best option. I was shocked that he did it quite quickly, with very little pain (just the numbing shots). Dr. Shaik and Aunty Lei made the whole experience pleasant, if I can say? I don't usually expect that to be said of any dental visit, much less a root canal! Aunty Lei even wrapped me nicely in a blanket because I got cold. 5 stars -- Root canal redemption! I never thought I'd be writing a positive review about needing a root canal, but here we are -- all thanks to Dr. Shaikh and the amazing team at Hawaii Endodontics. I'd never had a cavity before, so when my general dentist told me I had a big one that likely needed a root canal, I was honestly in disbelief -- and pretty anxious. The words "root canal" alone had me imagining the worst. Thankfully, a trusted friend referred me to Dr. Shaikh for a second opinion, and I'm so grateful they did. From the moment I walked into the clinic, I felt cared for. The front desk staff greeted me warmly, and Lynn, the nurse, was an absolute angel. She noticed I was nervous (even though I tried to play it cool!) and immediately made me feel comfortable -- offering me water and making sure I had everything I needed. Dr. Shaikh was kind, calming, and incredibly clear in explaining what was going on with my poor tooth (spoiler: it was super infected) and what my options were. He made the whole thing make sense without overwhelming me. When we decided to go ahead with the root canal, my anxiety started creeping back in -- but it was short-lived. Honestly? It wasn't scary at all. Dr. Shaikh made sure I was fully numb, checked in with me frequently during the procedure, and adjusted things if I felt even a hint of discomfort. And best of all -- it didn't hurt. At all. After the procedure, he walked me through everything he found (infection: gnarly, but conquered!) and explained my aftercare clearly. I had mild soreness once the numbing wore off, but the ibuprofen he prescribed took care of it easily. The aloha spirit is real at this clinic. I never felt rushed, never felt like "just another patient." Everyone there genuinely cared. Even the music was calming -- and Lynn's soothing singing voice could be its own Spotify playlist. :) I hope I never need another root canal, but if I do, I'm 100% going back to Dr. Shaikh. They were able to accomodate me on short notice for a root canal during the recent bad storms that passed through. Despite the weather everyone in the office was very pleasant and made me feel very comfortable in their care. Dr Shaikh explained the procedure very well, checked often throughout that I was comfortable and ok, and even followed up the next to make sure I had no complications. I was referred to Hawaii Endonics by my dentist to, "review x-rays for possible root resorption". However, before they even examined me, they were trying to get my signature to agree to pay $1,600.00 (and I have dental insurance) for root canals. They came across as being very mercenary. They took additional X-rays in spite of the X-rays my dentist forwarded and charged me almost $90 for the "privilege" of the extra X-rays, and 10-15" of trying to convince me to have these expensive procedures after making me wait 15" in the dental chair past my appointmenttime. I will be discussing this unwelcome experience with my dentist. read more

My regular dentist recommended that I get a root canal. I was dreading it. She referred me to her endodontist and I confirmed that they were not in my insurance network and it would cost me$1600 out of pocket! I decided to do my own research and found Hawaii Endodontics was in my network and thanks to Yelp for providing more info and great reviews. You can always count on Yelp! They were able to see me right away because I was in pain. Dr. Liu and her team were so patient in answering all my questions I was beyond nervous. They made me as comfy as possible in what is pretty much the most uncomfortable situation there could ever be. The procedure was painless and took about 45 minutes. Glad I chose Dr Liu and her team! Tips: I took 2 Tylenol before my procedure as precaution. The Building is the concrete structure not the glass. There is a Longs pharmacy on the 1st floor they are on the 4th. Parking is metered only so bring lots of change, it's in the back of the building. read more

Had an emergency root canal and I got so lucky, they were able to squeeze me in same day! Front staff is SO friendly, just love those girls seriously!! Anyway, I got seen by Dr. Mikulik, and this guy is realllly awesome. Super chill, and made sure I understood everything in full detail. I have had probably 15 or so root canals in my life(yes I'm nasty), but still learned some stuff yesterday. His technician, Fallon, she was really on point, never had anyone taking x-rays so fast. They both genuinely seemed concerned for my wellbeing the entire time and I really appreciated the care. Ok so no one wants dental issues. But that being said if you have them this is the place to go. Everyone here was so nice and made a stressful situation not stressful. The procedure (root canal) went smoothly and everyone was very good about checking on me throughout. They were very gentle and made me as comfortable as possible. Doctor Farid Shaikh , is the best root canal specialist in Hawaii, in my opinion. He has saved a tooth for me in the past and another one last week . Zero pain even the needle didn't hurt. I had a very tricky tooth that was infected , and Dr. Shaikh saved the tooth and the good crown i had on it wasn't damaged. I'm 77 years old and he was able to work wonders on my old tooth AMAZING .I couldn't recommend him more . If you need a root canal , do yourself a big favor and insist on seeing Dr. Shaikh , You won't be sorry. I was quite a difficult case and even though they had to really work me, here I am completely pain-free after 24 hours. These folks are consummate pros. Nobody wants to get a root canal, but if you need one, you'd be hard pressed to find a better doc than Dr. Kang. He's super competent and has awesome bedside manner. He worked so hard for me saying he's a perfectionist and it meant a lot to me. Dr. Hang is an outstanding Dentist and he calmed my nerves when I got my root canal procedure done. He takes great genuine interest in getting to know you as a person and explained and walked me thru my dental work every step of the way! He was fast, efficient and compassionate! I am utterly amazed at what just happened. I was in pain for weeks after a deep filling. I was going I wouldn't need a root canal but unfortunately I did. I was completely freaked out and called 20 times with questions and each time I was treated so nice, they took time to talk to me and assure me. When I went in I was miserable and scared. Dr Kang was very attentive and promised me I would have no pain. I was so tense I was shaking. My muscles even started to hurt. the whole time I was anticipating horrible pain. But I felt nothing during my root canal. NOTHING!! Not the shot, not even a little twinge. The worst part was the pressure thing from that dental dam they clip to your tooth and it didn't hurt just felt weird. What's weirder is I went home fully expecting that when the Novocaine wore off that I would be in for days of pain. I am not even a little sore!!! I feel like I never had anything done. I seriously can't believe it. I really had the wrong dentists before. I didn't know that painless root canals were possible but this place has perfected it. Root Canal! OMG, the word sent chills down my spine when my dentist told me that I might need one. He referred me to Hawaii Endodontics for a consultation and much to my surprise it was the MOST PAINLESS procedure that I ever had. Yes, hard to believe but it was painless and after, I only slight discomfort when the numbing wore off. Dr. Aimee Kim and her staff were AWESOME! She talked to me about my ongoing pain, explained her findings, showed me the x-rays and offered me the option to do a root canal that day. Throughout the procedure, Dr. Kim made sure that I was not in any pain from the initial injection to the drilling, she would talk to me about what she was doing and asked how I felt. Dr. Kim was so gentle and her voice was very calming that I almost fell asleep. When it was over she asked me again how I was feeling and her staff explained how I should care for the area and what I needed to do following the appointment. I want to say a sincere thank you to Dr. Kang for the excellent care and treatment that I received at his office today. I found out last week that I needed an unexpected root canal and my dentist referred me to Dr. Kang. I was honest with them when I arrived at the office this morning and told them that I have dental anxiety from a bad experience earlier this year and everyone on the staff immediately made me feel validated and comforted with their reassurance. Dr. Kang is sincere when he says that he wants his patients to feel comfortable during the root canal procedure and he was very kind and concerned about my feelings. The dental technician that was with me this morning did such an amazing job helping me relax and even got a blanket for me and tucked me in while I was sitting in the chair!! (I sincerely apologize but I cannot remember her name. She was a lady maybe in her mid 40's and wore glasses) The technology in his office is superb and they even let me wear video glasses and I watched the movie "FROZEN" while getting my root canal done with headphones on! They offer about 30 movies that you can choose from. This was by far not only the best root canal I have ever had done but it was actually the best dental appointment I have ever had. One of my molars had been hurting for three days, so I went to see my regular dentist and he thought there might be a crack in it, so he referred me to endodontist Dr. Howard Kang. I was very apprehensive because I was in quite a bit of pain, but Dr. Kang was awesome from start to finish. There was a small crack, and he did do the root canal, but I was so happy he was able to save the tooth (so I only need a crown and not an implant). Plus, there was very little pain at all (and none once the novocaine kicked in), and the procedure took a much shorter time than I had expected. The whole staff was very nice, and they hooked me up with earphones and an Ipad, so I was able to watch "Lost Vegas" during the procedure. Thinking, hoping, praying I wouldn't need a root canal and I was, rather, just experiencing sinus induced teeth pain, I arrived at Hawaii Endodontics for my appointment last Friday. The young, charming professionals at the desk were immediately welcoming and understanding of my extreme nervousness. I was escorted to a very comfortable room and was totally impressed with Dr. Shaikh's assistant. This competent young man (too rattled to get his name) started explaining things and was understanding and positive when I shared I even had a problem with X-rays! I told him I got shaky when I was nervous and he and another fine assistant teamed together and got those x-rays done easily and comfortably for me! As I couldn't even tell which particular tooth was bothering me, Dr. Shaikh performed lots of tapping and biting tests and ordered more X-rays. He then showed me the problem on the X-ray! I was worried! The problem tooth was the absolute most difficult to reach in my small mouth! I was really concerned I wouldn't be able to do this but Dr. Shaikh assured me we could take breaks if I needed them and that he would work as quickly as possible. I said okay let's do it and focused on the wonderful music and movie-in-glasses they gave me. I was amazed when Dr. Shaikh said we were finished and that I did really well! I did do well! The reason I did so well is this wonderful team of understanding and really, really competent professionals! I am so grateful for Dr. Shaikh's expertise! First of all my anxiety level when I go to the dentist is already at a 10, but Dr. Shaikh and staff were absolutely amazing! They took really good care of me and talked to me step by step throughout my procedure and made sure I was comfortable and calm. I was refered to this office after finding out that I needed 2 root canals. I saw Dr Shaih for the first one and Dr Kim for the second(I would have seen the same doctor but I was in so much pain that I just wanted to get it done as soon as possible so I requested the first doctor available). Both doctors were great-I hardly even felt them giving me the shots which can be very painful but Dr Shaih and Dr Kim really know how to do it with out causing pain. They were both very patient and sympathetic(and since since I had 2 very infected teeth I needed all the sympathy I could get) and I felt like they really cared about making sure that I was as comfortable as possible and didn't have pain. I only felt a little pain during root canal with Dr Shaih but I had VERY bad tooth so not his fault as he was as gentle as possible and gave me enough novocaine to knock out a rhino. With second root canal, with Dr Kim, I didn't feel a thing, despite once again, having a very painful tooth. If, heaven forbid, I ever will need another root canal, I will definately go to their office as I felt they did a great job read more

I saw Dr. Aimee Kim for my root canal back in 2012. I have no problem with the tooth now. I even almost forgot that I had a root canal. As nice as she was, I didn't want to go back to the office again because it means that I may need another dental work. Recently I developed different problem on another tooth. Initially my dentist referred me to a gum specialist who then referred me to a different specialist. I was getting a run around with different recommendations. my wife and I were getting very frustrated. Finally I went back to Dr. Kim's office. In spite of her busy schedule, the staff accommodated me as an emergency patient because I was having an abscessed. When I got there, receptionists were very friendly. The assistant was extra cautious of taking X-ray because of my discomfort. After thorough review of digital X-rays and of my tooth, she recommended an extraction because of low success rate. She could've recommended a root canal treatment to make more money but she was very honest about the expectation of that option. Although I was sad that I am losing a tooth, I appreciated her honest opinion and the time she spent to explain everything. My wife, who has to know everything, asked a lot of questions. Dr. Kim answered every question the way that we could understand. If I ever need another root canal, I will definitely go back to her office. read more

I was referred to Hawaii Endodontics for the pain and had to do a Root Canal. I do NOT like going to the dentists and ROOT CANAL is like a bad word for me. HOWEVER, Dr Kim is an Exceptional Person!!!! I told her how i always feel the need to swallow and i sometimes felt in the past that I felt like i would choke while in the seat. Dr. Kim has a beautiful personality to begin with so I felt at ease and also hee assistant Nicky was just as nice as Dr Kim. I was given glasses to watch a movie and headphones too. I was distracted enough for them to complete a Root Canal. Dr Kim explained everything and before the procedure. Professional Staff! The front receptionist ladies are also VERY nice. I just had a root canal done by Dr. Kang. I'm so glad my dentist referred me to Dr. Kang. The entire visit from start to finish was wonderful. I walked into the office and was greeted by a friendly smile and extremely happy personality. While I was filling out the standard paperwork I noticed that the girl in the front turned on a movie for me since I was there a little early. Next, I was led into the chair by another friendly assistant. The room was very clean and full of high tech equipment. Dr. Kang was also very nice and extremely calming. He took a long time to explain everything to me and made sure to calm my fears about pain. When they started the procedure they gave me a iPod full of movies, video glasses, and headphones. I swear the RC seemed like it took 10 min and absolutely no pain. I was so busy watching and listening the movie that the procedure flew by and I didn't hear the drill sound. The video glasses were very cool. It was like was a huge screen in a movie theater. I can't say enough good things about my experience at Hawaii Endodontics. I highly recommend Dr. Kang. read more
