Next, it is employee owned. Everyone inside seems to care about making you a happy customer because they own a stake in it. Lastly, this place is massive! I can't rally explain to you how massive. It is 242,000 square feet of groceries. For scale, that is 15 commercial Boeing 737 jetliners inside or 395 full sized semi trucks or the entire New York City Central Park Zoo! It has every food you could imagine with every gluten free, keto, and zero sugar option my family craves. Want that Mountain Dew Voltage raspberry soda you thought was long gone? Yep! In need of household goods, we made the trek and figured there was at least a few options available. We were wrong, this place is not a typical grocery store. It's a food emporium, with tons of aisles and plenty of choices. Was surprised they didn't have any manned stations (meat, deli, and fish usually have someone there with fresh products). This place just has more aisles. And while we might have one or two cases of a specific type of item, you got full aisles. And not just one aisle, but multiple. And many different brands and types. So I pull around to go back to the storefront to get a refund for the car wash. The guy comes out of the store and says is the car wash not working? I said I don't know whether it's working or not. You've got cones in front of it so you can't get at it. I assume it's not working. The guy tells me no refund save the receipt that it is good for a year. I said I live in Chicago I just happened to be up in this area so I need a refund. The guy keeps telling me to come back and get the car wash. I said I don't live near here. I'm confident the plan is asked the customer to leave and hope they lose the receipt so they get $11 for nothing. Then I go inside and he gives me nine dollars for an eleven dollar car wash. He said that's all you get because you got the discount on the gas. I said that wasn't my fault. I was willing to buy the gas and a car wash. But for some reason it's not working and you had no idea. But you're still selling the car washes. I had to tell him I was going to dial 911 and tell the police to handle it. Finally he gave me the $2 back. There is a huge difference in the price of a gallon of gas @ Costco Gas in Chicago (Crook County) vs Niles, IL (Cook County) vs Lake County. I have seen gas as high as $399.9/gallon on the south side near Midway Airport. Costco Gas tends to be anywhere from $.20 - $.30/gallon less then most gas stations. I refill my car either every day or every other day so I tend to watch the prices to try and save when I can. Look at the difference between 3 recent fill ups 08/07/19 - $297.9/gallon - Costco Gas Chicago (Crook County) 08/08/19 - $281.9/gallon - Costco Gas Niles (Cook Count 08/10/19 - $267.9/gallon - Shell Gas (Lake County). I stopped to put $20 in my car before heading back to the city, only to discover they preauthorized $175.00 for my purchase. I called Amex and they said they would look into it, but even mor suspicious is when I called the station and was bold a) there was no manager b) the manager was at the store c) it was AMEX that was holding the charge. Obviously what they do is over authorize your card, get the deposits ASAP and then refund the overcharge, after they have used your money for a week. It's been 4 days and still pending so AmEx is going to flag the charge as fraud, which it is. I spoke to a friend that lives nearby and she said they do it all the time and the only way around it is to pay with cash inside or pay for a specific amount of gas. I vote for never going there again as long as I live because there is NOTHING posted about the 800% over-authorization, Mobil does not have any such policy and AMEX says it's a violation of merchant agreements and are investigating this practice. I wouldn't be so mad if it wasn't the only card I had with me and their crazy overcharge flagged fraud prevention (I never charge more than $50 on this card) and then couldn't pick up my dinner. This is a predatory business practice and you would be better off running out of gas and using roadside assistance than this den of thieves. It is not normal, nor legal.

I sometimes forget about this gas station since there is a larger, newer looking one further south on Milwaukee. The biggest draw of Speedway is their loyalty program with points aplenty. Whether you buy food, grocery or gas, you'll rack up points. Points can equal free stuff or discounts on gas. Gas discounts go up to .25 cents off per gallon. (I like to save those for long distance trips) As a norm, I'm suspicious of warm food sold in gas stations and convenience stores. Looking at other reviews here, best to be cautious too. But, if you're willing to try it, Speedway offers deals on warmed foods. Best to use a loyalty card, you could rack up free food or two-for-1's.

It was easy to get into, find an open pump and fill our gas tank. It was an easy in and out, and who could ask for anything more than that.
