My transmission is problematic again---of course the are giving me the run around for the bogus warranty that they offer. While googling for the telephone number to call them, I found more reviews by people that are not on yelp, please see below " Please if you want your car and dont want to go through hell dont ever go to this shop they will have your car messed up. This was my 1St time with them and the very last time. I reported them to the BBB" " My transfer case went out. The owner repaired it for about 2600 and 3 months later, it went out again. After towing the vehicle 300 miles back to his shop, Mr. Boyd informed me he would not value his warranty and I had to pay an additional 2400. He wouldn't even face me when it come to pay the bill. Coward and a liar!!!" Excellent service. They really know what they are talking about and are great with communicating with you and advising you on best direction to take on repairs. Prices are the best around and if they know of another business that specializes in a certain area and it will save you money they will refer you to them. Please BEWARE! The owner of this company, Emory Boyd, is a complete scam artist!!! Boyd's Transmissions, Inc. put in a brand "new" transmission in my car LESS THAN 6 month ago and we were told that we had a two year warranty on it. It initially died on us on the interstate with our family of four in it and we were completely stranded 3 days before Christmas (we are from Florida). We found this shop and I just thought it was a Godsend. Little did I know that he would take THOUSANDS of dollars from our family and not even think twice about it. This "new" transmission completely died on me last week on the way to my daughter's graduation, and I was stranded on the side of the road. I had to leave the car there. My husband called Emory both on his cell phone and shop phone (we were concerned because we were already hearing issues with the transmission even before this happened - this wasn't our first call to them). Emory said he would find us a shop to tow it to for us to get it diagnosed and he assured us that he would take care of it. He told us he would call us back that night. He never called and my car sat on the side of the road until we had to break down and get it home ourselves on our dime. Now I have a completely broken car sitting in my driveway and their shop avoids ALL calls from us everyday (my husband has been calling everyday, every two hours). Emory even sunk low enough to tell my husband when he (Emory) must have accidentally picked up his cell phone last Saturday morning during one of my husband's many attempts to deal with this peacefully, "Oh... uh... I'm visiting a friend in hospice and I promise I will call you back within an hour." Of course he never did; it's all been lies and avoiding taking responsibility. It's disgusting how they have treated us and the lies their company is willing to say to customers. We were trying to trust that their shop would do the right thing, but clearly they are choosing to take advantage of a family. Shame on them. Truly. I am a teacher and $5,000 is a huge amount of money to our family. This is devastating and I hope this review saves someone from falling prey to them as well. read more

Had taken my restored 1970 el camino to another local transmission repair center for a rescheduled appointment. After waiting over an hour at 8:00am then leaving the car. No one showed up by 11:00 I called Boyd's They could not have been more professional! Excellent communication. Est and work was first rate. Will return to them and you should also. read more

Even though we were from far away and just passing through, Boyd's did exactly what they promised for exactly the money they quoted, and the remanufactured transmission has worked beautifully for the last 1500 miles. All of our interactions with everyone at Boyd's, especially Emory, were friendly, thoughtful, and professional. We couldn't have asked for a better experience, short of not having had our original trans blow-up in an unfamiliar area. Thanks Boyd's! read more

Called these guys Monday to ask if they would give me a ruff (non-binding) price on a repair. They said they would call me back. Did not Monday. I figured they must have been busy. Waited until Tuesday evening. Called them again. Person (?) got a little snippy with me and said the owner would call me back. I pointed out it was 4:30 pm. He said the owner often called people later after the shop closes. BUT, it's now Thursday at 11:30pm and have not gotten a single call back. Would I take my transmission there ? Hell No. read more

This is one of the worst auto repair shops I have ever experienced and I've experienced some ridiculous shops. They actually broke my car worse than when I brought it in and then gave me attitude to get it fixed. My clutch wouldn't disengage because I had no pressure to the pedal, it was a busted slave cylinder. I told them that. So the shops secretary apparently went to get a odometer reading and turned the key to the on position and there was a 'loud bang' from the engine bay, which happened to blow the intake manifold apart from the head. Ya because she freaking tried to start the car with it in gear and unable to move and caused a backfire. And she went on to say 'was your car always stuck in gear like that' like I didn't tell them what the problem was and like this isn't a transmission shop that should know these things anyways. Then when I went in to see what happened the owner gave me attitude, said it was my problem to fix it or take it somewhere to fix. So I had to fix it and when I went to borrow some of their shops tools the guys working in the back ignored me. Luckily with it being a 4 cylinder it was easy enough to fix in the parking lot. Well I own a 2005 Subaru Outback XT. I was on a 6 month detail to the Federal Law Enforcement Academy. I am originally from Buffalo, NY so I was a bit away from home. I was having trouble with "I thought was just a clutch" issue. NOT. after checking with some local shops(who wanted nothing to do with the Subaru) which I heard everything about WHY THEY WOULDN'T. I was finally referred to BOYD'S as a last ditch effort. I knew from my initial phone call that this place was the one. The owner Emory, even said he would wait for me to show up so he personally could "hear" the problem I was trying to duplicate the noise over the phone. Not real good mind you. After seeing the worst case scenario and being shown in detail what was wrong and what he could do to correct it. Emory said it was, NO problem he could do it. No problem at all. I called my guy back in Buffalo and explained my situation and what was wrong/broken. He said yea get it done, the guy's RIGHT on. Staff and mechanics are FIRST RATE in my book. I have sent over some of my co-workers also. All of us are VERY happy. If I ever brake down again I hope it's in Brunswick, GA. P.S. Here's what was done.. Get ready.. Presure plate, all new clutch assembly, rebuilt top end of tranny plus all the other "goodies" that goes along with it. A++++++++++++ read more

What was supposed to be the end of a wonderful trip to Jekyll, turned out to be the worst. It all started when I noticed the car wasn't shifting gears smoothly, jerking back every time it would. I took it to a Tire & Repair Shop thinking the problem was due to an insufficiency of transmission oil. The shop employee told me the oil wasn't the problem, it was the transmission; therefore, he referred me to Boyd's Transmission - worst thing he could have ever done. Once I arrived, Mr. Boyd seemed like a nice, affable person, displaying warm hospitality and letting my kids play with his cute Bulldog while we waited for him to check the transmission of my car. After waiting a couple hours, he confirmed that the transmission was broken and that I needed a new one put in. I became extremely worried because I knew I couldn't wait in Brunswick another week since I had to be back home in Marietta, GA for my husband's birthday the next day and I had to show up for work on Monday. Mr. Boyd appeased the situation by saying he should have the transmission all set in and ready by Thursday the following week and I could just come back and pick up my repaired car. I left his shop that day with a rental car, trusting he would have it ready in a week's time. As promised, I received a call the following Thursday confirming I should retrieve my vehicle that afternoon, so I headed towards Brunswick with my son. After driving 5 hours, I arrived right around 1:45PM, 15 minutes shy of when the car was supposed to be ready: between 2-3PM. This is when things turned out for the worst and the true nature of the shop began to manifest. I saw my vehicle being test driven three times and taken back into the shop for the next three hours, without absolutely ANY update to what was going on. The whole time Mr. Boyd was either on the phone in his office or busy in the shop - not once did he think to alleviate my stress and apprehension by explaining what was taking so long. After waiting up until close time at 5PM, Mr. Boyd informed me that my car had to be towed to a specific dealer in Jacksonville, FL the next morning in order for their scanner to electrically communicate with the used transmission he put in my car since none of his scanners seemed to be working. He told me by noon the next day, the car should be ready. With no much other option, I had to stay overnight and pay an extra day for use of the rental car. The next morning I called the dealer in Jacksonville who was supposed to be receiving my car and he told me that first off, that my car had been driven there by a lady and not towed, despite the fact that the car was still malfunctioning. Then he told me that the problem wasn't the scanner, but rather the used transmission that Mr. Boyd had put into my car to repair the broken one. Completely disregarding the suggestion of the dealer to not drive my car back with a faulty transmission, the lady (an employee at Mr. Boyd's shop) drove my car anyways 2 hours back to Brunswick. I was at the shop again at noon and Mr. Boyd informed me that the transmission of my car was indeed malfunctioning. This was the last straw. How could a "reputable" establishment who specializes in transmissions put in a faulty transmission?? I wanted to take my car to another shop, offering Mr. Boyd to pay for the inspection and his effort, but not the transmission since he didn't fix the problem. At that point the amicable facade of Mr. Boyd was eradicated and replaced with the infuriated, licentious person he truly is. He threatened to call the police if I didn't pay him the entirety of $3,400 for work he had done ineffectually. He yelled, admonished, and severely berated me for suggesting that he was dishonest and for questioning the integrity of his shop. At that point he left me no choice but to leave my car there until he received another transmission and attempted to replace the faulty one. He claimed that he would call me the next business day and keep me completely updated every step of the way; in addition, he promised he would bring the car in a week's time to Marietta so I wouldn't have to drive back to Brunswick. I left in those terms, feeling helpless in that situation, and rented another car to drive back home another 5 hours with my son. It's already been a week and I haven't received a single call from Mr. Boyd. His lack of attentiveness and utter negligence is completely inexcusable, rude, and absolutely unacceptable from a place that claims to customer service first. read more
