"The fastest show on Dirt"! And this is the first race of the season this Memorial Day Weekend…read moresince last November. Hope folks still remember how to drive. When your weekend is looking like another stay at home ordinance, thus was a fun little unplanned diversion on our 520 mile trek to Atlanta. Big Mike coming over the broken PA and loud cars speeding around the dirt. Heck who knew anything like this would happen. I guess this is phase 1 or 2 of the patchwork-reopening. People are still practicing social distancing but just barely. However, I did notice that you could serve your own condiments at the concession stand. We arrived 2 hours early at 5pm but things didn't get started until after 7pm. We had a couple of cheese burgers and chicken tenders with two waters for $14. Not bad. $10pp to park and entrance fee to the speedway. This is 3/8 oval dirt track. They have bleachers but many folks brought their own chairs. We travel with ours everywhere so we did the same. Next to the wooden bleachers is grass and people were perched there as well. The track is watered down to prevent dustbowls. You should bring ear protection. We didn't this time although we could have purchased earplugs for $1 each. There were 8 different divisions with 4 cylinder to 8 cylinder and AWD and FWD cars. After sitting on a lawnmower for 3 hours I probably was half deaf anyway so the noise really didn't bother me as much, but Nicole and the little one didn't make it past the "hot laps", the introductory practice laps, which was fine by me since we'd been waiting for more than 2 hours and still had another 2.5 hours to drive to Atlanta.

Formerly Murphy Speedway, this is now a 3/8 oval track instead of a 5/8 oval. Yes, it's been…read moreredone. It's a lot nicer since the first time I came which was about 10 years ago. It has been improved but still needs more improvements. Location; take exit 60 off Interstate 75 and go west for about 4 miles and you will see a sign on the left. You will come up on a V where you decide to either go to the right for the grand stands or go to the left for the pits or tail gate parking. I of course chose to go to the left. The concession stand in the tier parking area was fast and friendly. I used my pick up and parked in the tier parking area. Just back your truck up and pull down the tail gate to watch the race. You can see most of the track from the so called "tier parking" which is what I call pick up truck or tail gate parking. One thing they need is a bathroom facility complete with water and a sink to wash your hands and etc. I saw only one portable stall to go to the bath room on the tier parking area. The dirt track racing was very entertaining and I would come back again. John Ownbey won the late model race on a Friday night while a Chevroltet Performance sponsored event. So this was a big race with lots of cars here tonight.

I entered thru the grandstands and eventually made it to the pits. I rate a race track on the following: parking, facilities, concession stands, service, and entertainment. This track passed all of these. I was able to park in an area where I could easily leave when I wanted to. No need to pay for parking across the street from the pit entrance which was charging $2. Just park at the main entrance for free and walk over to the pits from the grand stand area. This way you can walk freely wherever you want on the track with a pit pass. They had bathroom facilities in both the grandstands and pit areas. There was running water with soap and paper towels in the bathrooms. The concession stands were easily accessible and had great food with manageable lines. The food was great as I got a corn dog and a hot dog for my two visits to the concession stand. You can also get canned drinks like cokes, Sprite, mellow yellow, and mr pibb. Everyone was in a great mood including the people that work here. I had a good time walking thru the pits, talking to pit crew members and drivers, watching the cars in the pits, seeing the haulers bring in the race cars and of course watching the races. Jonathan Davenport won the late model race this Memorial Day 2016. He put on a good show with David Payne by passing him with a slide job to the lead. I was very well entertained as I saw a great race.

Prepare to get a little dirty as the seating is old beat up wood bleachers. They've got food and drinks and the kids are welcome too. Parking is a big ol field and you can sit wherever you want in the stands. Be warned though if you're in the corner turns your gonna get hit with dirt/mud as the cars drift through the turns. This is defiantly a place to come for a good ol time. I'll be back to see the drivers battle it out!

The first entrance is the grandstands. The second entrance is tier parking. The third entrance is the pits entrance. I review race tracks on 4 different categories: parking, concession stand, bathroom facilities and view of track. I chose tier parking which you can use your pickup truck to watch the race. I like this in the fact that you can back up your truck and pull the tail gate down, sit and watch the race. I brought my lawn chair and placed it in the back of the truck to watch the race in comfort. One important note is that if you want to park in this section, get here early because it fills up early. I saw some trucks pay and couldn't find a parking place. They have concessions stands in the grandstands, tier parking and the pits. So, it does not matter where you want to go, you can get food and drinks nearby. They have nachos and cheese, hamburgers, cokes, hot dogs, candy, cheeseburgers, hot chocolate, sweet tea, coffee, pop corn and etc. There's usually no lines at the concession stand or not much of one. They have bathroom facilities with running water, paper towels and soap to wash your hands. They have garbage cans throughout the track grounds for your garbage. I saw no lines in the bathrooms. My view of the track was great as I was able to see the race cars all around the track. There was nothing blocking my view of seeing the race cars drive around the oval dirt track. Parking and leaving: There was no problem parking as it is self parking from what I saw. There was no traffic problems leaving either It seems they have big races here and they don't race every weekend. Like them on Facebook to view their schedule. The first time I came here they had the All Star Series here in which the number 157 Mike Marlar won the race. The second time I came here they had the World of Outlaws racing series here in which Scott Bloomquist won the race. They will also have the Lucas Oil Series here in a few weeks visiting. The third time I came this year Donald McIntosh won the Ultimate Super Late Model series race. I went to the pits and talked to Ray Cook's pit crew member who said they had a brand new race car that has never hit the track and they been working on it several weeks. Sadly, it was totaled in this race on 6/18/2016. What I don't like about this race track is that they don't water the track down enough. Therefore, it is extremely dusty that I can't stand it. I can't enjoy the race with all the dust getting in my eyes, all over my truck, all over my clothes and in my chair. Oh, yes, breathing in the dust makes it almost not enjoyable at all. They just need to use more water in wetting the track down and I bet a lot more race fans will show up. It's a shame that they have all these big races here but you can't enjoy the races with all the dust.

For my birthday my wife got me a twenty lap package with the Rusty Wallace Experience. I had a ton…read moreof fun and learned a lot. You go through a 45 minute training class before they turn you loose on the track. If you have never driven on a NASCAR style track, I highly recommend paying the extra money to ride with a pro for three laps before you do yours. It was an extra $99 when we went. I'm sure the prices differ by season and specials. I also highly recommend you get the insurance for $69. If you wreck the car and it's deemed your fault you will only be responsible for $1000 vs. up to $15,000. They allow your group to take photos on their phone in the pit area but offer professional photos (For An Extra Fee Of Course) before you get into the race car. They also offer a video of your driving experience. They messed my video up so I didn't get one. The things I really enjoyed was the freedom of driving a powerful car by myself. I would try to go during cooler weather if possible. It gets very hot wearing the fire proof suit over your clothes and inside a tin can with a very hot motor. The people doing the driving, training, and your radio crew were very pleasant and knew what they were doing. They make sure you understand all the rules of the track and genuinely care for your safety. You have a radio in your ear to get instructions while you drive. You cannot talk back to them but they will guide you as you make the laps. The car's are fairly nice but you can tell they have been retired from true racing. You can upgrade several times to nicer cars with better steering and more hp (For Additional Fees) It can get very expensive here! It's also not worth going through all this just to drive three laps. If you're not going to purchase at least six to ten laps. I highly recommend just riding with a pro for three laps. That is a ton of fun. You don't start to feel comfortable driving until around three laps. The things not so enjoyable were the nasty damp helmets and flame retardant suits. You definitely want to be one of the first groups out if possible. I would think for what this cost they could afford some Lysol to spray in the helmets. They all smell like a high school locker room. I also think if you purchase the larger driving packages they should throw in a few of the smaller perks. When I say everything costs extra I mean it! They even sell bottled water and Gatorade from a cooler. If you have a lot of extra money to burn and love speed, it's a great experience. I recommend having them check your driving video before you leave.

Everyone that worked with us there were really awesome. Talking with us as we stood in line. Helping us in all aspects of the drive and being patient as it was our 1st time there. The Nashville track was a great 1st track to do this I think. The layout is not too difficult. We chose to do the side by side ride along which was really cool to "race" another car on the track. We are looking to head back out and do the driving experience on our next visit! If you love NASCAR at all, this is a definite add to your bucket list.
