So I'm another with a LivingSocial deal for a "Ladies Booty Camp" at Box 2B Fit and was very excited about finding a gym that has kickboxing with actual bags and gloves (I have my own and want to use them!). At any rate, I started the 1 month deal clock on Monday and got there like 30 minutes early, so I got do whatever paperwork was necessary (turned out to only be a liability waiver to sign that was barely readable), and to get a brief tour and orientation (so I'd know where the class would take place, locker room location, a rundown of equipment and classes, etc...you know, the kind of stuff a first timer needs to know, right? Wrong. I waited more than 10 minutes before someone came to the front (obviously to deal with the growing numbers of people standing in the doorways). So after filling out the waiver, I had to ask where the class would be, where I could put my stuff, etc. I was told there were cubbies inside the gym and the floor for my stuff, and class was "down on the right." Uh, hello? I've never been here, how does this work? CRICKETS. It was soon clear there was one guy handling business, answering questions (smirk), and training someone. SO, after I put my stuff back in my car, I head over to "down on the right" and the same guy (lets call him Wearing All Hats or WAH) from the front is in the room working with someone, but says nothing to indicate I'm in the right place...but I soon figure out that it is where I'm supposed to be, thanks to another newbie wandering around as well. SO, a few minutes later WAH tells us to grab a mat, roll out a bag and get 2 sets of kettle bells...uh ok. Class starts 5 minutes LATE (and yes it ended about 8 minutes EARLY). Aside from the poor customer service, class was OK...and a good workout, but my MAIN GRIPE is that there was NO warm up or COOL down (as in stretch it out so you're not tied in knots tomorrow). Maybe someone who's been here before would know that, but the newcomers did not. Had I known, I would have done my own warm-up (I'm not trying to get hurt in this place...remember that liability waiver that got signed quick fast and in a hurry? Uh huh.) And MAIN GRIPE number 2 is...NO orientation to the equipment. We used some TRX equipment and kettle bells (both of which a couple of us had never used before). I had to tell the trainer I did not know how to adjust the equipment (you know, so i wouldn't end up hanging from the wall or falling on my head), and can I get a preview of how this works...he said NO (or actually just shook his head and kept talking at me like I knew what he was talking about). ANNOYING. Again I'm not trying to get hurt...and you should care about that WAH. And finally, it was never explained that this class would be breaking out muscle groups (i.e, Mon - - triceps and chest, Wed -- biceps and back, Fri - legs and butt). Why? If you're not focused on weight lifting for body building, why do that, in a class - esp for ladies? That she be in private training. Why wouldn't a MWF lineup be total body...especially if you can't make all 3 days? You miss one day, and that muscle group gets missed that week. ANYWAY, they obviously didn't ask me.
So overall, I got a decent work out, although it could have been MUCH better had the format been a bit more reasonable and inclusive. I am NOT against or afraid of a hard work out...but missing fundamentals points to INJURY, but that doesn't seem to be a concern here. I'm just sayin'.
I'll be back to get my LS money's worth, but I won't be joining and I surely could not recommend this place to friends who haven't ever worked out regularly and don't already have some basic knowledge of gym equipment, or how to start and end a workout. read more
