Hip Still Not Right - Need a Hip Replacement Revision…read more I had an anterior hip replacement with Dr. Andrew Porter. I am 56 years old and average weight. I had arthritis in my hip joints, thanks to genetics, and needed my hip replaced. Surgery with Dr. Porter went as planned, so I thought... Shortly after surgery, I noticed something was off. I had had my other hip replaced 7 years ago, so I was familiar with the recovery process. Unfortunately, my hip was painfully popping out of the socket and back in. I kept going to Dr. Porter telling him something wasn't right. Dr. Porter said I needed to continue with physical therapy, which I did. It is still no better after 5 months of therapy, and my range of motion is very limited. Dr. Porter told me a revision would also limit my range of motion and be more invasive than the first surgery. He basically tried to talk me out of fixing my hip. I can't live like this. I can't even walk properly. Needless to say. I never went back. Do not let the pain rush you into surgery. I should have waited for a more experienced surgeon.

He referred me for shots with the pain clinic and never once looked at my prior MRI disc that I provided. He basically minimized my pain because of my fibromyalgia and said I should be taking medication. Had he looked at the prior scans, he would have seen I have C4, C5 and C6 as well as L4 and L5 herniated discs, yet he couldn't be bothered to take the time to properly diagnose me. His bedside manner is condescending and rude. People come to him in pain and he thought it was professional to laugh and smile while saying " Oh you've been in pain for 19yrs. Very unprofessional.

Almost 3 hours before my scheduled appointment I received a call asking if I could come in early. Being that I was at work and required coverage if I left, this was not possible. I made it there for the appointment just on time. It was clear the medical assistant was displeased I was unable to come in early. She approached the secretary and asked if I had finished my paperwork, I replied I had one page left, and she says "Well, just come into the room and I will help you finish it." Clearly, I have just learned how to write and cannot complete a simple form on my own. Feeling bad, I explained I cannot leave early if I don't have coverage. She responds, "It's ok, we just rarely ever have a day that is not booked, it would have been nice to leave early but it is what it is." Which would have been fine but it was the tone in which she said it that just left me feeling totally unwanted and uncomfortable. I was then sent in for x-rays and the technician was nice enough, I was in and out of the x-ray room within 5 minutes. I met the doctor for the first time and he was informative, had me do a few exercises, and told me he believed it was just a severe case of tendonitis. Then, prescribed about a month's worth of physical therapy and some pain medication. Ok, not bad. I check out and upon checking out am told they only have one physical therapist at the practice and he is booked until next month but I can call around to any other place that offers PT? Yeah, ok, I'll get right on that. Even though my doctor was decent, the majority of the staff just seemed absolutely miserable. I think I'll do some of my own PT and take my business elsewhere next time around.
