Specialties
Bowie Pet Clinic offers "Common Sense Medicine". We enjoy a relaxed atmosphere here! We value your friendship, and see our relationship with you as a team effort to provide your pet with the healthiest life possible. We search out the latest research and recommendations, mixed with the experience from day-to-day practice, to decide the best course of treatment for each of our patients as individuals. We will be glad to discuss any concerns that you have, and we want to provide all the information you need to be an active partner in your pet's health care decisions.
History
Established in 1984.
Bowie Pet Clinic opened its doors to the pet owners of Bowie, TX, in early 1984. I purchased and renovated a cute little "gingerbread house" existing building on Mill Street for my original clinic facility. We have grown through the years into a thriving Veterinary practice, and outgrew our original clinic facility by the time Bowie Pet Clinic celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2004. Again, I chose to purchase an existing building to renovate as we did originally, this time on Smythe Street, the last cobblestone street in town, in what was essentially a large structurally sound downtown building going to waste. Bowie Pet Clinic is now located at 100 N Smythe in downtown Bowie. We created and built the business facilities we needed through Reuse, Renovation, Revitalization, Energy Conservation, and Green Building.
Meet the Business Owner: Dr Pam B.
Howdy! I'm Pamela Lee Barlow, DVM - but everyone here calls me Dr. Pam. I was raised in El Paso, TX, and had animals of nearly every kind while I was growing up. I showed rabbits in 4-H; bottle raised baby calves; kept the usual dogs, cats, birds and fish; and caught lizards and snakes in the desert. Veterinary Medicine is my "calling", and I never dreamed of doing anything else with my life. I graduated from Texas A&M University Veterinary School in 1979. I accepted an Army Scholarship to be able to afford my education, so after graduation I served on active duty for three years at Fort Sill (Lawton), Oklahoma. After leaving active duty in 1982, I continued to serve in the active Army Reserve as a Citizen Soldier, and retired in 2007. I moved into the Bowie area in 1983, and opened Bowie Pet Clinic in 1984. I am active member of the Bowie, TX, business community, and have served as a Director in both the Chamber of Commerce and the Bowie Main Street Association.
