As an east coast resident, words cannot convey how cool this place is. I literally could stop right…read morethere and my review would be over, but Yelp likes whole essays about shtuff. I've been to a lot of places around the globe. More than most people my age could ever hope for, but this place is new to me. In my one visit to this store I rode a Ferris wheel, played bowling, and browsed the largest arsenal of firearms I've ever seen. That alone made my day, but I'm not done yet. This place has more bikes and skateboards than Alpine Ski Shop. Their camping section is larger than Dick's and Cabela's combined. The clothing department is chock full of everything that one would want to pull over their skin. I haven't even mentioned that their prices are average to cheap! Heck, even the employees are kind and helpful! There's literally nothing I can complain about, because I've never experienced anything that compares to Scheels. I literally cried when I walked into this place, because it fulfilled everything my hopes and dreams could possibly muster. I love being critical to mega corporations, and I thought they might have a fascist CEO or something, but that's where it really gets crazy. Scheels is 100% employee owned, meaning DEMOCRACY BABY!!! I barely edited this review, so if you see something weird, I honestly don't care. Moral of the story is that I'm flabbergasted beyond belief.

We were traveling through Colorado Springs with a detour to some tourist spots in the mountains and…read morea cold snap hit overnight. We were not properly prepared for snow and needed to buy a jacket and footwear. We noticed Sheels off the freeway but had never shopped in one of the stores prior. We walked in and wow. What a beautiful store! We noticed several parents walking in with toddlers and I can see why. Beautiful fish tanks, an actual Ferris wheel! What in the world! The selection of outdoor gear and supplies in the store was overwhelming. So much to look at. I wanted to try on everything. We weee greeted and helped out by the most friendly staff. One woman in particular in the UNRL section was very helpful. We purchased the jacket and socks and were quickly checked out by friendly staff. We didn't have time to go through the store but will certainly be visiting their new Chandler location soon.

I went into Big 5 to look for some hiking boots, but I wasn't expecting to have my socks knocked…read moreoff by the outstanding service provided to me by Kent. Seeing a circular ad for shoes on sale, I wanted to buy a pair of hiking boots. Not seeing my size in the style I wanted, Kent came up to me just ask I was about to ask for help. I told him I couldn't find my size in the particular style I wanted and asked him if he knew if that brand was good. I had no idea I asked my question to the right person! As it turns out, hiking is a passion of Kent. He provided me with so much information about the soles of shoes, stitching, material, and protecting the material of the shoes. When I told him I was looking for a shoe that was a little more like a boot since I had a fear of snakes, Kent also had knowledge of that! When I finally settled on a choice of shoe based on Kent's recommendation, he also told me what to look for as I walked, explaining how much weight/pressure I put on what part of my foot as I walked. Kent wasn't a high-pressure sales person, but truly wanted to make sure I got a shoe I liked and would work for me. In fact, I walked out with two pairs of shoes! It's so difficult to find great customer service these days, let alone someone who genuinely enjoys his job and giving tailored advice. I can't thank Kent enough for the outstanding customer service he provided me.

If I could give zero I would. I have never been so ignored in almost my entire life. Had 5…read moredifferent employees walked by me more than once. Can we guess how many offered to help? Zero. I'm disabled and I was looking for shoes to fit leg braces, not be basically stalked by employees whom say nothing when they wander by. Customer service has gone way down. All these people just act like they just don't want to actually work. Hang on though 1 person I talked to as I entered and exited. They need more like her. Wish I'd have caught the name on the name tag.
