I contacted Megan Burrell, an agent in John Ratliff's office, got a quote, and authorized the policy. Ms Burrell was having trouble collecting the premium from escrow, so I paid the premium in full for a year, ($1508), via electronic check. Ms Burrell withdrew $1508 from my account three times ($4524) and attempted to withdraw it a fourth time. She would have succeeded if I hadn't placed a Stop-Pay on the electronic check and blocked her from making withdrawals from my account. Mistakes happen, I get that. However, when I brought this mistake to Ms Burrell's attention, she immediately started shifting blame. First to the subsidiary, Heritage Insurance, and then to me. The office manager, Tanney demanded that I produce bank statements to prove that Geico STOLE MY MONEY. They treated me as if I was the one perpetrating the fraud. They claimed that Geico didn't withdraw the funds their sub Heritage stole from me. Then they claimed that they had no record of receiving more than one payment and blamed my bank. As of today 8/25/2020 my money still hasn't been returned to me despite providing all the documentation that they requested to prove their thievery. This is more than horrible customer service. This is criminal. They have stolen from me after I trusted them with insuring my home, vehicles, and the well being of my family. This agency is untrustworthy. They are deceitful liners and should be avoided at all cost.

His team is incredibly unhelpful when it comes to doing things. I have had my insurance policy changed, and canceled due to this office not just once but three times. They took Comp and Collision off of my policy without notifying me, and I would never have known because they stopped sending me bills (which was why my policy kept getting canceled). When I asked why I wasn't notified of the change, cancelation, and nonpayment status towards my bill they said "Phone calls are really just a courtesy and not a requirement, we don't have to inform you if your service is going to be canceled due to an unpaid bill." When I asked to speak to Jeff about this situation I was informed that "Jeff doesn't deal with clients, he prefers to let his Associates do the talking, but I'll be glad to inform him of the situation." I was very diligent about my payments and calling to double check when my payments were due, as I said my bills were not making it to me, which they had been informed of as well. Then I received a letter in the mail from the DMV informing me that I was in delinquent status for not having insurance. Of course I thought, how could this be, I've been calling and paying my bills. Unfortunately, I was told an incorrect date and my policy had been canceled due to nonpayment. For the second time I was thrown under the bus by this office. I try to be as polite and understanding as possible, I go in and explain the situation, I ask them to do me a favor and please try to inform me if my payment hasn't been made. Again, I informed them of the mailing situation. I was informed that indeed "I personally called both numbers on the account and left multiple messages." Which I would have gotten on both of the cellphones related to the account. Of course, I didn't actually get these calls or messages as I have their number saved to my phone as Jeff Stephenson's State Farm. Not a missed call nor a message. After sending Jeff an email personally about the situation, with well documented notes I was greeted almost three weeks later with a reply. "I have passed your information off to one of my associates and I definitely hope this doesn't happen again." Well Jeff don't worry, it won't, because as soon as I can I'm getting new insurance through another company. Sorry that your office as soiled State Farm's neighborly name for me and my family.

Communication was extremely poor -…read moremy emails were repeatedly ignored, sometimes for weeks, and getting a response felt nearly impossible. When I finally did hear back, the focus was always on trying to sell me more expensive insurance options rather than addressing my questions. What's most disappointing is that after comparing options myself, I found significantly better premiums simply by applying online through other providers. That makes it hard to understand the value of working with them at all. Overall, the lack of responsiveness and the push toward higher-priced policies made the experience feel unprofessional and not in the customer's best interest. I would recommend that others compare online options first before dealing with this company.

If you are looking for an Erie policy I highly recommend looking at other Erie agents in Durham. Though you will save big in Durham using someone other than Erie as they are not competitive locally. I've never had good service from Knox. Three years and they barely will communicate with me. I just got a new car and asked them to help me save a few bucks and go over some options. Instead, I received NO REPLY, and a few days later a bill in the mail for over $1700! I called Geico and Progressive immediately. Geico gave me the exact same coverage and a few small added perks and saved me over $600! Progressive would have saved me even more but they weren't great to talk to on the phone. Then I decided to see what would happen by trying another local Erie agent as I really didn't want to leave my long time insurance company. Geico actually mentioned my loyalty to Erie and gave me an additional $116 discount! Shouldn't Erie be doing that? Herring and Bickers called me back with another Erie quote today, he was incredibly helpful, and friendly. He gave me more customer service today than I've had in three years with Knox. This guy gave me the identical policy, which was easy being an Erie agent, and another agent in the same town beat Knox price with a stick! It was not as good as Geico, but more than $400 bucks less and had Geico not already charged my card, I would have paid him more to be my agent just because he provided excellent customer service and listened to me. I was shocked to learn you could get such different prices from the same company using another agent. He also explained he could save me even a bit more if I lowered what he, Geico, and Progressive thought were some coverages I really didn't need. All things Knox should have tried to help me with. I will miss Erie, but not this agent.
