The store is clean, well-organized, and prices are a bit more than you'd pay at a large big box art store in the city, but here you are supporting a local business. One of the women working there made us especially uncomfortable--she kept following us around and watching us as if we were stealing. There was no smile, no greeting, and overall just a very unfriendly atmosphere. When I mentioned at the end that a more welcoming attitude toward customers would go a long way, she seemed completely indifferent. Update: The experience got worse--the staff didn't even bother to properly wrap a candle, and by the time I got home, it was already broken. After reading other reviews on Yelp, I realized this doesn't seem like a one-off situation. Many others have had similar experiences, which makes it seem like this kind of unwelcoming behavior is a pattern.

We live in the neighborhood and love supporting our local businesses, but the few times I have been in this store left me wondering why I even try supporting a business that clearly doesn't want me shopping there. Today was the last time I will ever step foot in this store again. No greeting, just a hand reaching for the merchandise I was trying to buy. No thank you, either. Seriously, why have a shop if you can't be bothered offering any kind of basic customer service? People wonder why brick and mortar stores are dying...well, this is the reason.

So many beautiful stationary and note card sets that are crafted by women using recycled paper. Loved that! A little pricey, but quite nice. The service however was horrendous. It started when I asked one of the elder sales persons a simple question. She acted like it was the stupidest question ever and she answered super sarcastically. A younger person overheard and answered my question in a much nicer and normal way. When I was ready to checkout out, the first sales person (rude one) was busy chatting with her colleagues and looking at photos on their phones. I was completely ignored. Once again, the nicer sales person saw me and asked to help me. When I left I said thank you to everyone and to have a nice day. The rude women just gave me a black stare.

Heath Ceramics in Sausalito is a personal favorite of mine: a design focused retail destination…read morefeaturing Heath pottery, decorative homewares, and iconic ceramic tiles. Founded in 1948 by visionary ceramicist Edith Heath, the brand is an icon of California modern design. The items here are undeniably expensive, but the timeless design and constantly updating of color palettes make each piece feel special. In 2003, the company was revitalized by husband-and-wife product design and business team, who thoughtfully reinvented the brand. Heath is a great example of how with a good steward, classic design can be successfully revived and made modern. I find Heath to be a good spot for finding special design focused gifts.

I stopped by today, with my mom, to buy my sister some gifts for her wedding. I loved the new colors I saw - they had some yellow bowls and bulb vases that I was seriously tempted to buy, in addition to the other items. What I didn't love was the lack of customer service. I don't expect or want to be waited on hand and foot, but a simple acknowledgement would have been nice, rather than having multiple employees just watching us the entire time. I ended up purchasing from the seconds section and buying less than anticipated due to the overall vibe. I try to be understanding, and perhaps something was off for them today. Regardless, I was so uncomfortable in the store that I waited outside while our items were gift wrapped.
