TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! Went here on 5/15/23 to use a Mother's Day coupon that clearly states "Valid for 1 day and expires 5/15/23" and the coupon was denied because the date on the coupon was a misprint. The young man at the register would not honor the coupon even though it was a mistake on their part. I just became a customer here last year but will not be returning after today. I was told that I was not the first customer that encountered this issue today but here we are at 5:30pm and no communication sent to the customers of their mistake. Below is a screenshot of the response I received from the "manager ". You can't give me a $500 reward to step foot back in that establishment after the response I received. She was called out on her shitty customer service and instead of responding like a manager with any type of class would she decided to respond with shittier customer service. Absolutely disgusting!!! As I read other reviews I'm not the only customer who has had the pleasure of dealing with this beauty . What a way to represent your establishment SMH! Seems like the screenshot with her original response keeps on deleting but her original response was "Geez. What is your address? I will mail you a personal check for $5. it was my first time going but I had a great experience. There is a huge variety of plants in the greenhouse and they are a very good price. All of the plants I bought have been thriving! The service at the desk was great and you can sign up to get a discount. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because they said pet friendly but nowhere did it say we had to carry our dog in the greenhouse or she couldn't come with us, their reasoning is there are toxic plants in the greenhouse. read more

Most plants and shrubs look great, but when you plant them watch out. Caveat emptor, or BUYER BEWARE. They guarantee NOTHING!!!. You leave with your plant and they don't want to hear from you again!!. When you call the business, and even provide pictures through an email, they naturally blame you as the culprit. Very large selection of trees - both many varieties and many of each variety; not one or two or three but many of each type. Tree height was about eight feet or more. Some of the planting pots were enormous. You would need a professional to plant the larger specimens. We were shopping for Redbuds and found several types, all good sizes. This location has been a plant nursery for many years. Ownership has changed from time to time. Bountiful Gardens has two other retail locations, so I expect that they know what they are doing. Delivery and installation are available. Tag the trees you want. Most if not all the trees were grown (and sold) in pots. This has an advantage over "balled and burlaped " stock which often have serious root damage when dug out of a field. Also sell shrubs, flowers etc. We spoke to two of the staff members - both pleasant and helpful. Prices on trees looked to be $150 and up for good sized specimens. Worth a drive. The area is gravel so wear sturdy shoes. read more

I was a little leery about coming here after reading the reviews but was amazed with the pricing and interactions with employees. The plants are a little more expensive then Lowe's or Home Depot's are but your buying a much higher quality product. These plants are actually cared for not just watered, and if you know anything about plants that's what makes the difference between one that will last vs die after a season. The staff was very friendly but because they were so BUSY(key point) they gave easy to understand answers like "do you carry butterfly bushes?" "Yes we do! Right over there are our stock, let me know if you need any more help". And they have a FREE rewards program that drastically drops the price of the plants and gives you great other rewards such as money off your next purchase. My husband and I pass this place all the time and we finally had some time to drop by and see what they had. It's an easy find since they're at an intersection after the merge going into Hillsborough. Getting in and out of the lot can be a little challenging unless you're coming from the same side. As soon as we walked in, I was kind of blown away by all the beautiful flowers that greeted our eyes and noses. A number of them were in full bloom and absolutely gorgeous. We walked around the property for a bit and didn't realize how much property they actually had. They had a great selection and I kind of didn't know where to look. Lol. We tracked down one of the guys and managed to asked some questions. We managed to find out they could send someone out to view the landscaping and point out what we have and what could be put in depending on our needs and purpose. We left our name and number for them to reach out for a consult. Update: Less than 24 hrs later, we receive a follow up call followed by a visit in late morning from Ryan. I was kind of expecting a call during the week so I was surprised. Ryan came out and walked the property with us addressing our questions about drainage, foundation plants and ideas for the planter beds. We were very pleased to have this level of service. This place has a lot of items - HOWEVER, they have ZERO refund policy and believe that they are not accountable for their bad, diseased, fungus-affected plantings. Their customer service is atrocious. The employees are terrified of the owner. She is a nasty, money-hungry woman. From the outside, the place looks good, lots of offerings etc...but don't get fooled or trapped into buying. They offer no guarantee on their plantings or flowers and if you bring something back that was of poor quality or diseased the owner will not accommodate, she attacks and is nasty and petty. I don't usually write reviews, so it takes that extra special encounter to bring me to this point. I'm an avid gardener (the kind who spends way too much each year even though my garden never gets any bigger!) and happened to pass this location on my way home from Duke Garden's and was impressed by the layout. I checked it out online and decided to place an order to pick up. I'd like to add here: my usual beloved nursery is MADDEN FAMILY FARMS, where from time to time they'll give away certain plants if they've grown too many in the greenhouse and it's at the point of they'll die or give them away. I've also purchased plants at larger places for a penny on clearance. This is also the end of July when - depending on stock and fall supplies coming in - some places have ridiculously huge deals. That said... There was a plant listed on this site for $0.00. I placed an order for 5, went through the whole check out and got a confirmation number and email. Enter my special encounter.... When I arrived, the person at the desk was on the phone, she turned her back to me and finished it (okay, not the best customer service, but no biggie) she got off and asked how she could help. I let her know that I placed an online order and was here to pick up, I then showed her my confirmation email. She asked when I placed it, I told her two days ago. She informed me that the person who does that stuff just quit, so she's not sure if her guy had done anything about it. She then asked if I already paid to which I said, here's the thing, ... After explaining what happened she looked at me and said, "You don't think you're leaving here with free plants, cause that aint happening honey." Whoa...! I'm an almost 40 year old grown woman who's been nothing by polite to this person. She said she was the owner and if I didn't pay, I'm not getting anything, to which I informed her that her website would not let me pay and even gave me a confirmation # to pick up my order... Let me also say here....I totally get that gliches happen. She could have EASILY responded with, "Oh wow, that's really strange. I'm not sure why that happened, I've been experiencing some personnel issues, that never should have went through." Okay, fine, no problem, let me look around at what you have.... NOT what happened. I tried to explain in a light hearted way how some nurseries might part with overstocks to make room for fall, etc. She looked at me as though I had just spoke Greek, only a tad bit more condescending. After experiencing her pleasant attitude, and a few more very tense back and forths, she told me she'd have to look into that and stared me down. (It was one of those awkward moments when I wasn't really sure if that meant she was going to call someone because maybe they were on sale, but the new price didn't get updated correctly, etc. So I should wait here to find out and she'd let me know...) NOPE. She just stared at me, or rather stared me down. I said okaaaayyy. She said, yeah okay, continuing the stare. I have NEVER had an encounter so rude and disrespectful, most especially from the OWNER of an establishment. A. It's your website, old school rules - you honor the transation and eat the cost because it's your fault. B. Can't afford to honor A, you act like a respectable and professional business owner who pleasantly apologizes for YOUR error. Where are the bare minimum of customer service skills??? Staff is NOT wearing a mask. I had to pay at the only register with a rude employee who scoffed at me for asking him to cover his nose with his mask. It's a pandemic. Cover your NOSE and mouth. I had no way of NOT interacting with him as he was the only checkout person. I guess with his PhD in epidemiology from whatever news source he uses makes him smarter than scientists and the NJ governor mandate. I will NOT be back. I live very close to here and been to their location twice. They do have a wide selection and nice variety. I'll give them that, but their prices are not competitive at all. Very overpriced. purchased over $650 in plants/trees. Also paid for delivery that had to be at our house on a Sat morning due to our landscapers being there to plant. I over communicated this to BG. Needless to say they didn't show. I had to call them at 1pm to see where our plants were. They said their truck broke down and they were working on getting another truck to send out. I've gone here several times and consistently had similar experiences. The staff is not knowledgeable about plants and can be quite rude. Their prices are higher than other nurseries nearby such as Amblesides or The Farmers Coop where the staff are experienced and friendly. If we could give 0 stars we would. We spent over a thousand dollars on trees, plants & installation. We had a $50 butterfly bush that died after a couple of days. Not only would the owner not take it back & replace, she was rude and condescending. I highly discourage using this business. So know before you go that this is their policy. I bought 9 Japanese Holly Sky Pencils from this nursery in Hillsborough, NJ, route 206 and five died underneath 2 mths. What was so ironic, and hindsight is 20/20, the plants were way in the back along with some other evergreens but kind of hidden. I was sort of hunting for this specific type of evergreen because they fit ideally for the patio screen of trees, I was looking to build. The check out guy had one of those bland personalities and offered no guidance or instruction. Even when I came back and said it was peculiar that some were thriving but others had turned brown in spite of receiving the same watering schedule. I was watering everyday, one worker said I should not water everyday, but the checkout guy said I hadn't watered enough. Sad thing was there was no instructions offered, even when I said, look I need help, they are dying and I'm getting mixed instructions, the guy offered no guidance, said no refunds, no discounts on future plants, no replacements, nothing and I mean nothing could be offered to offset my $900 purchase with this establishment. This was the worst customer service I have ever experienced with a nursery. I would say you get what you pay for, but these guys are expensive, at least when I would go to Rutger's Nursery their expensive, but they guarantee their trees, even Lowe's will give you a 1 year warranty. I will never buy not even a $2 plant from this nursery ever again. To think this was not my first purchase, I'd spent good money with them before, I hadn't had those trees for even 2 mths. before they completely turned brown, if there was something I was doing wrong, they wouldn't even offer any help. I've only been to the Hillsborough location and few times, and it is by far one of the best garden centers I've been to. I've spent a lot of time (and money) at Valley Brook in Clinton before they closed. This place is my new go to. As an avid gardner and connoisseur of fine landscaping, I found a plethora of very healthy beautiful plants. Their staff is attentive and the owner Lisa is phenomenal. She loves her plants and has in depth knowledge of plants, landscaping and design. Ask her anything and she will educate you and help with your selection. If you want choices, this is the place to go. The place is beautiful, be sure to check out their garden patio area blossoming with fragrant herbs. Bring a sandwich and have a lunch in the garden! Today, I bought two beautiful cast iron urns. Lisa was great to deal with and her assistants loaded these large beasts in my car. Bountiful Gardens just finished a big job at my home after doing a few smaller things over the last few seasons. This spring we needed to remove some overgrown trees, do some new replanting , move beds, plant etc etc. It was a two week job and a large investment, but I could not be more pleased with the process and the outcome. Ryan, the designer, is upfront and honest and very knowledgeable about the plants. He works well with Lisa at the nursery where needed to get the perfect plants for the area in question. The crew is efficient, neat and did a fantastic job. They even were able to save some huge evergreens that we originally thought we need to be chopped down and replant them to another location on the property. It is a breath of fresh air to work with a team that does what they say they will and in the face of weather delays, etc kept me up to date on any changes. Been dealing with Bountiful Gardens for a number of years now and feel that it is a place that has a wide selection of plants and shrubs. I have purchased Holly bushes, Bayberry shrubs and a wide array of plants, both annuals and perennials, and have never been dissatisfied with my choice. In my opinion their rewards program and informational emails have also proven to be beneficial for this customer! All in all, a good place to go for plants in spring, summer or the fall. read more

The selection is vast and includes an unusally large number of perenials. The one tree and two perenials I've purchased there have lasted. My issue is the prices. $20 for a flat? I haven't seen anyone nearly that high. And I really, really hate the tactice they use with volume pricing: five for $20 becomes $5 each for less than five, for example. Two out of three bushes that I bought from them died after two months, despite the fact that I planted and watered according to instructions, and added organic topsoil. They sent me to see the Master Gardeners, who asked a bunch of questions and couldn't find anything obvious that I had done wrong. So, back to Bountiful Gardens again, and they just pointed to their disclaimer on the receipt "No refunds, credit, or exchange". read more

it's true that the staff there is very busy re-stocking inventory (usually a good sign in itself) and admittedly, they do have some workers who speak English better then others. However, I am a frequent visitor and anytime I directly ask a question the staff goes out of their way to help. In fact, on my last visit I was interested in a weeping Red Bud (didn't even know there was such a thing) and the lady there took about 20 minutes out of her day (loading pumpkins) to answer all kinds of questions. And believe me it can be a real PITA. When she couldn't find the right price she actually gave me the lower (without me asking). Overall I really like this place. It's convenient and, although busy, the staff is very helpful. BTW, I asked her about her negative rating on Yelp and she said that some woman demanded a lower price on an item because it was in the vicinity of a sign with a lower price. I said I know the type - real attitude and expect something for nothing. Defintitley recommended! read more
