Was just picking flowers for my girlfriend to hand out to the population on Pearl street and got harrassed by a cop that told me to throw them away because they weren't mine to give out. we all pay taxes and there is more than enough to give out and I just felt disrespected by a cop on a power trip. read more

Horrid PR skills by this Department. I had a bad interaction with an Officer on the road, he was like talking to a robot, did not care about what I had to say or what was going on at all. He cut me off several times while I was talking to him, telling me "I just need your paperwork". As soon as I handed the items to him he walked away from me while I was talking to him again... shocking to say the least. When I went in to the office and said what happened, the Lady at the front desk just smiled and nodded. She said they get that a lot. Wow!! Are you kidding me?? I avoid driving through this city at all costs. Not just because of getting pulled over or something, but my biggest concern is if they care so little... there is no way I am going to rely on these Officers in an emergency!! If I could give 0 stars I would. On their way to a STABBING. A cop got on the wrong side of the road on a one way turn and almost hit my husband and I going about 30 miles an hour. Not only was the cop speeding. He went on to a one way the WRONG way and proceeded to almost hit civilians. Don't cause accidents on your way to an emergency. I don't give a fuck if you're a cop. You should be upholding the law more. I was driving down Highway 36 and saw a road hazard in the middle of the road the cars were swerving and almost getting into accidents for. I called the nonemergency police department number and they transfer me like four times and have me wait on hold while cars could've been crashing. I hung up and called the 911 number and they transferred me again. He said I called the city when I should have called the county. Aren't they all connected pass along the message before someone dies in an accident due to stuff in the road. You have a concerned citizen calling in. I got the sense that they could care less. Six transfers come on now. No sense of urgency for these guys. I know I will be hesitant to call 911 in the future. It took me between 7 - 10 minutes to report this emergency. read more

For some reason, I thought false advertising was illegal. "Protect and serve" really? When you make more than 5 theft complaints in less than 5 months, get your car broken into, plates stolen, house messed with, credit card stolen, and then ticketed for trying to protect your own property you find yourself asking a lot of questions. So you do and get told (yes this is a quote) "tough luck, that's not our problem". Then what is Boulder PD? If I ran my business this way I would have been sued, locked up, fined, and run out of business within a week or two. Maybe you guys need to rewrite your mission statement. While this may seem like a scene out of a movie (maybe one of those wacky college comedies wherein people mistake certain male bodily fluids for beer foam) this ACTUALLY happened to my roommate Ashley and I during our last summer at University of Colorado. Since I think it would work as a screenplay, that's how I'm gonna present it. Floozefest Films presents: "The Sting" Scene 1, the streets of Boulder. Two really, really ridiculously good looking and clearly inebriated college age hunnies (this is the first draft of the script, and the screenwriter is going for a "young and hip" vibe. Said writer was sacked immediately after submittal.) are walking home from the bars. Anna: That was effing awesome. Didja see me do the worm on stage? I'm pretty sure I bruised my chin, but it was totally worth it. Ashley: Oh man, I missed it! I was sucking face with that hot skier kid. You'll just have to do it tomorrow night, when we do the exact same thing! Anna: Awesome! Hey, wanna order pizza? Ashley: Hell yeah! Lemme get my- oh frick! I lost my phone! Anna: STFU already! You positive? Ashley: Yeah! Effin' A, Cotton! Anna: Well, hang on, I'll call, maybe someone found it. (Anna dials Ashley's number, her flaxen hair blowing in the subtle mountain breeze. (She does so) Anna: Hey, Boulder PD, I was just wondering if it's legal to steal someone's cellphone and then charge them to give it back, cause I was thinking that would be considered extortion or grand theft moto or something... Not legit, huh? That's what I thought. Would you mind helping us out? Scene 2, the back of a police car. Anna and Ashley are squealing in excitement, as they're part of a bonafide police sting. Anna's still on the phone with the soon to be busted Douchebag. Douchebag: What the hell's taking you so long? Anna (thinking, well we had to wait for the Five-oh, Ass-Clown): Sorry, we're really drunk and we, um, got lost. We're really close, I swear. What are you wearing again, so we'll know you when we see you? Douchebag: I'm the only guy here, I'm in a sweatshirt. Just hurry up, and you better have my money. Anna: Oh, don't worry, you'll get what's coming to you. (All of a sudden, the intersection is lit up from all sides by Boulder Patrol cars. Perpetrator has nowhere to go, and is subsequently cuffed. Anna and Ashley do a little victory dance, sans worm- there's not room for that.) Female Foxy Cop: Here's your mobile, now would you girls fill out this paperwork so we can book him? Ashley: Oh... I don't really care about pressing charges, I just wanted my phone back. Female Foxy Cop, increasingly becoming Bitchy Chick Cop: Are you serious? You had half the Boulder PD come down here and you're not even going to press charges? Ashley: Um... No. Bitchy Chick Cop: You realize this is extreme abuse of police services, don't you? Dropped my cell phone in a shop on Pearl St. When I discovered it we were already almost to Evergreen and did not know the shop name. My daughter had set up the app Find iPhone so we knew where it was. We texted a name and phone number so the finder could call. Unfortunately, they wrote the number down incorrectly and spent the day calling a wrong number. Since the shop was closing, the owner took the phone to the police office around the corner. We arrived soon after and ran to the office. It was supposed to close a half hour earlier, but the officer (Jane?) could see on the phone we were trying to get there and stayed until we arrived. I wanted to leave the entire CITY of boulder one star, but since that wasn't possible, I'll settle for the public face behind the most recent Boulder anti-citizen debacle. This last weekend I travelled to boulder to go to a tea festival. When I got there, I instead received an hour and a half of Sunday afternoon gridlock, with the police officiating over compete traffic mismanagement, and doing so angrily and unhelpfully. Somehow, the city planned a marathon and a bike race at the same time, with traffic directed away from the downtown river park where the events (including the tea festival) all were taking place. Never mind planning FOR the traffic involved, Boulder clearly planned NOT to think about it... and directed their police to harass and obstruct anyone trying to get anywhere by car. The height of the insanity was when I was driving down a street which unannounced was divided into a left turn lane that forced drivers back the way they came into the traffic jam, or away from downtown. I got in the left lane expecting to turn left to my destination, then discovered at the intersection that I wanted to turn right because I didn't want to go back the way I came. Immediately the cop in the intersection ran over with his ticket book and yelled at me that I was violating the law, even though rolled down window asked for help reaching my destination. It should have been very clear that the best thing he could do was offer assistance, both for me and for the traffic in the intersection where I was stuck. But he continued to berate me as though I was a child, completely unhelpful. I had to ask him whether he was protecting or serving in order to get him to listen to me. Finally he called me an idiot and waved me through the intersection without giving me any advice or help on getting where I was going. I'm going to avoid boulder fastdiously. read more

I would love to love the cops, the problem is, the police in this area don't do a thing to protect and serve. It's more like make money and fill quotas. It's pretty bad that when i see a cop in boulder i tense up and my heart races, instead of feeling safe and protected. Call 911 for help? be prepared to be interrogated and more than likely ticketed for being there. See a kid puking his guts up and delirious? call the cops and be interrogated and accused of providing alcohol to minors. In a rush to get to work so you don't get fired and you're doing 9 over the speed limit on foothills parkway? immediate ticket! even though a porsche PASSED you right in front of the cop. when you ask the officer why he pulled you over and not the porsche and the answer you get is that you were a young man and the driver of the porsche was an older woman..well why should we trust the cops when things like this are apparently common in this area. The only person i know who likes and/or trusts the police in the area is my 88 year old neighbor who can't even drive. Now this is not just complaining about the cops around here, but they don't protect and serve, i would honestly consider driving myself to the hospital if something was wrong instead of calling 911 because i would assume the cops would find a way to screw me over even if i called for a horrible leg wound or something. The PD around here needs to fix it's image and stop "enforcing the law for the bottom line" and start "protecting and serving" in truth. read more

Be aware when you place an online police report it can actually be rejected and not filed and you would never know. An officer is supposed to contact you if the incident you report does not fall in the guidelines of the online reporting incidents. However you should check to make sure they accepted your crime report. I needed a copy of my police report to pursue legal action - only to discover they "rejected" my online report but never told me and so my police report disappeared. I have never heard of a report of crime being rejected. Everyone learns something new everyday it seems. read more

The Boulder Police Dept has to be one of the laziest, most money-wasting police forces in the country. Slacker cops join BoPo to kick back on the job. They serve and protect the rich and maybe cute CU girls. Ask them to enforce the law when your neighborhood isn't Chautauqua and they call you the criminal. Case in point: I have a neighbor whose toxic drug fumes repeatedly inundate my place. This is not weed smoke. Probably meth or crack. It's been going on more than a year almost every day he's in town. Asked him to stop and he denied doing it. (Duplex. He's my only neighbor.) I called the cops. They shrugged. The druggie denied it so there's nothing they could do. Not their job. Told me to call Code Compliance. I did. No help. The health dept? Nada. Fire dept? Same. Only BoPo is responsible for enforcing laws on illegal drugs, so I called them again and asked them to do their job. Asked them for an air monitor, or to bring a drug-sniffing dog with them, or search the guy's place, or do a surface swab for drug residue. No, none of that was possible, they said. I politely insisted there had to be something they could do. Their solution: cite me for "false reporting." I had to go to court five times before the DA dismissed the bogus charge. And it stays on my record. To sketchy Boulder cops, you solve a crime by charging the victim. The incident is cleared, at least according to a bad cop's bad report. Nothing to see here, keep moving. Longtime Boulder resident here with a few suggestions. If you've had an interaction with Boulder police that you weren't satisfied with or you feel that you were disrespected or demeaned, make sure people know it. Write reviews here on Yelp and other places, and contact the Professional Standards office to file a complaint. Most complaints are investigated. If you don't think you're getting anywhere, contact your city council member directly (their individual emails are online or council@bouldercolorado.gov) as well as the city manager (brautigamj@bouldercolorado.gov). Council members are tired of bad behavior from this department and they often will make a phone call or send an email on your behalf, which gives the chief incentive to initiate an investigation. Tag the officers name, the chief's name, the city manager's name and the city council in your reviews. Pressure & publicity work. Good luck. read more

Not sure reviewing the police force will matter much, if you are on the wrong side of the law they are a 1 star, if not generally 5. That said while living in Boulder I've run into the police in a lot of different ways and every single time it has been nothing but positive.
