Yet again I called Boulder MRI to get a copy of my images and radiologist report. Margaret at the front desk was extremely helpful and polite. However, they wanted $10 to mail a disk to my physician where Health Images didn't require any money at all and was happy to do it. I called back later that evening because I forgot to ensure the radiologist report was along with it. Rhonda answer the phone and was extremely rude,in fact belligerent, from the beginning of the conversation to the end. She is one of the rudest front desk people I have ever encountered. Wow. Talk about "not getting it".... I recently went to Boulder MRI for a scan of my brain, because I've been having seizures. Having already had cancer, the scare of course was that I might have a tumor in my brain. And I've already had several MRI scans, so I know what is involved. Given my health problems, as you might imagine, I've had a LOT of interaction with lots of health services providers over the past couple years. And I've been treated like a chunk of meat before, and long ago lost any hope of being treated with dignity; that's just how the system is, I guess. But this is the first and only time I've ever been treated so badly, so rudely, that I quite literally told the technician "F#$% you, I'm going somewhere else" and walked out of the facility. Here's how it goes at this joint: you walk in the west door, where they've got a counter jammed in a corner of the urgent care clinic. They hand you the obligatory stack of questionnaires and billing forms and send you over to sit at a little table in front of the entry doors, where the cold wind blows your paperwork off the table while patients troop in and out of the door into the clinic. They want you to be 30 minutes early for your appointment to do all this paperwork, of course. So I dutifully arrived at 10:30 for my 11:00 appointment, filled out the paperwork, and sat with my coat and hat on in the "breezeway" wishing there was at least a magazine left by the last person.... finally at 11:30 the tech comes out. Looks at me but doesn't acknowledge me at all. Just goes over to the counter and chit chats for a while with the receptionists. Then brings a clipboard over and says "Matt? follow me" and marches off. No apology for making me sit there, nothing. No "hi, my name is...." Doesn't even wait for me to stand up before she starts off down the hall. So we go into the bowels of the clinic, and in the very back she opens a closet. I swear it was a converted closet! This "changing" room isn't three feet deep if it's an inch. I don't know, maybe it's a test to tell if anyone is claustrophobic before they get in the machine? Then she tells me I need to strip naked and put on one of those ridiculous gowns. Oh, I should please leave my socks on, though. I told her A) we're scanning my head, and B) I'm only wearing sweats and a t-shirt, not anything metallic, no zippers no buttons no anything. "Well, we have protocols to follow." Yeah, I get that. MRI machines have powerful magnets and you don't want to risk the liability of somebody getting burned or injured from having anything ferrous on their person. But seriously, butt naked? How about leaving my t-shirt on under the gown? How about offering me some pajama bottoms so my fat hairy ass doesn't have to hang out in public? "No, we still have our protocols" Yeah, well.... "F$%^ you, I'm going somewhere else." Because I've already had several MRI scans in my life, I know what to expect and what not to wear - and I have never been protocol'd into humiliation before. I know it sounds trivial... but remember, I'm the guy who went through treatment for rectal cancer - hey, there's hardly any humiliation you can think of that I haven't been through already, so that should give you some idea of how rude this gal had to be for me to go off like that. So I went home, researched online to find another facility with high resolution 3 tesla machines and ended up driving all the way down to Aurora to the Anschutz hospital. Where I was treated very nicely, given a comfy chair to sit in, called by name and chatted up with polite conversation, told it was OK to leave my t-shirt on under my gown because it's chilly in the exam room, and given some pajama bottoms to wear without even having to ask for any of it. Does the tech's attitude really matter at a diagnostic imaging center? I dunno, perhaps not. But I'll tell you what, there was no way in hell I was trusting them to give a damn about me or my health, given how I was treated. read more

Warning! Beware of this place and go elsewhere. I rarely post negative reviews but I feel obligated to warn other people about Boulder MRI. I went in for an MRI ordered by a doctor that is more than 3 hours away (a specialty clinic up in the mountains) and was told by the tech that they would mail a copy of my MRI disc as well as a copy of the report to the doctor because of how far away he was. They took down the address and said it would probably take a few days to get there. Apparently they usually only send a report, not the actual MRI disc, but they said they would do that for me as an exception. I called my doctor 2 weeks later to see if he had received it and he hadn't. I called Boulder MRI to find out what was going on and spoke with the most insufferable and rude individual I've ever spoken to on the phone (Rhonda). She took forever just to find my info and then very rudely laughed and told me that I was lying and that they don't send the disc to doctors EVER. I am seriously amazed that she is employed, her tone and manner of handling the issue was completely uncalled for, unprofessional, and extremely offensive. After reading through the other reviews, it appears that this is a recurring problem. The most annoying thing is that she refused to acknowledge that I was told they would "make an exception" and mail the disc for me (something they apparently don't do usually). She just called me a liar and spoke to me like I was a misbehaving 5 year-old that couldn't make sense of 1+1 equaling 2. Seriously, who outright calls a customer a liar? This oversight on the part of Boulder MRI meant that my doctor and I were not able to schedule my surgery in time before my wedding to allow for timely recovery. As a result I know have to wait 5 months and suffer longer with my knee condition. And they won't even apologize, they have no respect for their patients, just complete disdain. EDIT: it's also important to note their prices aren't upfront. I was given a price sheet that said the MRI with the Tesla 3 machine would be in the $600 range. When I arrived at the clinic and showed them my price sheet, they said that mine would cost more because I have insurance. It ended up being close to $900. While that may be a common occurrence in the medical world, it's still extremely unethical. read more

Laissez-faire attitude: - The day before my appointment, Rhonda called to confirm my appointment -- but could not find my paperwork when I answered the phone, so she put me on hold (!) - They're ambiguous about billing on the radiologist side, so be sure to ask them (as well as your insurance) about the radiologist's fee before making an appointment (see below) - The technician treated me like a child, not explaining anything in depth, and saying things like, "The radiologist works with YOUR doctor to come up with a plan for YOU" (nope, nope, my doctor simply ordered a brain MRI) - The technician clearly wanted to be done with me and my questions -- she rushed me out of the room by opening the door to the hallway and inching out while I was still sitting on the table, asking questions Brain MRI cost reference: - $2,500 billed to insurance, though the contracted rate was less than $900 -- prior to my appointment, they calculated what I would owe based on my insurance, and I had to pay that amount at the time of service - They gave me the option of paying $600 out of pocket (the amount charged to people without insurance), which would not count toward my deductible or out of pocket maximum - Neither of the above includes the radiologist's $300 fee (before insurance), which was billed separately -- NOTE: Boulder MRI did not mention this fee in any of the phone calls about cost until the day before the appointment, where Rhonda said, "You'll be billed separately by the radiologist, probably about $100." This facility lost a lumbar MRI that was done with contrast, then sent my ordering physician someone else' MRI (my doc knew this was not mine based on comparison to previous images and lack of obvious markers from a previous surgery). This is a HIPAA violation since they sent someone else' MRI (without that person's consent, of course). They proceeded to lie about losing the MRI and sending the wrong one. They continued to send incorrect and blank disks to my doctor's office until we finally gave up on getting my images. They also lied about having spoken to my doctor. My doc was also very upset about this and reached out to Boulder MRI multiple times. Boulder MRI told me they had returned his calls and had already resolved the issue at one point, but when I called my doctor's office to find out what the resolution was, they said that Boulder MRI had not returned any of their communications at any time, and there had not been any resolution. In addition, Boulder MRI refused to offer me a new MRI without charging me/my insurance company (though I'm not sure I would have trusted them enough to go back in). Most upsetting is the fact that I needed to repeat this MRI and be exposed to gadolinium contrast dye an additional time unnecessarily. They could have very easily owned up to their mistake and I would have happily moved on and forgiven the mistake, but the lying and bad attitude have definitely put me off of ever going back to this facility. read more

I had a great experience at Boulder MRI. Prior to the appointment, someone from their office called me to discuss insurance and billing issues, which I really appreciated. At the visit, both the receptionist and the technician were very friendly and professional. and I found the facilities more than adequate. The procedure was painful for me due to not being able to move and the nature of my injury and the technician was empathetic, supportive and very sweet to me. The only thing I would request were I to have another MRI in the future, at Boulder MRI or elsewhere, is that I be given time checks throughout. Its hard to keep track of time in these types of situations, and it would have been good to hear that we were about halfway done, had about ten minutes left, five minutes, etc... Other than that, great, friendly and professional service. read more

Total amateur hour at Boulder MRI. The tech failed several times while starting the IV (I recently finished chemotherapy treatments, so I'm perfectly used to getting stuck), and complained the entire time about how difficult it was to stick my veins, while another tech did a weird sort of rubbing on my other arm. Maybe she was nervous? So strange and uncomfortable. Again, I'm used to it, but plenty of people have found a vein just fine lately, and I blame a lack of skill and confidence. Also, incredibly unprofessional to tell me just how hard it was for them. I KNOW my veins are bad. That's what 6 months of toxic chemotherapy will do to you. No need to rub it in. It's their job to figure it out. I doubt I'm the first person to get an MRI after cancer treatments. After 10 minutes she finally managed to get the IV set up, but she forgot to screw the tube right. So, in the middle of the MRI, when the contrast began to flow, it ended up all over my arm in a mess of blood, saline, and contrast. Awesome. After coming in to fix it (more fiddling with the IV, just what I wanted), she left the nasty blood/contrast/saline towel under my arm. It was her mistake that it was there in the first place, would it have killed her to change it out, so I don't have to lay there in that mess for the rest of the procedure? Icing on the cake was when she finally did remove the IV, she used the gross towel to cover the spot that was bleeding. I don't think it's too much to ask for a clean piece of gauze to cover the spot where they removed the IV. After months of having a compromised immune system, I expect a certain level of cleanliness at a doctor's office. This was just gross and blew my mind that the tech thought that was OK. I blame total laziness or sheer incompetence. Either way, I was pretty shocked. For a procedure costing upwards of $3000, it's quite amazing the level of incompetence found at Boulder MRI. I requested that the results be sent to quite a few doctors, since all of my oncologists want to review the results, as well as several orthopedic surgeons, who will be performing the surgery to fix my hip. They are very delayed in sending results. Even a simple fax has taken 5 days to get sent. Do your job people! I'm more amused than anything. It's kind of amazing how every aspect of the experience was so bad. Go somewhere else. They don't deserve the $3000 (even if it is your insurance paying that bill). read more

Took my son here for an MRI- had to pay an exorbitant amount at the time of the MRI- no waiting for the billing like most facilities. Oddly enough, my daughter needed an MRI of her wrist a month later, and her wrist MRI would cost the same as my son's brain scan. We shopped around- much to our doctor's office chagrin, and found an MRI facility for 1/3 of their quoted price. Since each child has their own deductible this was a big difference in my out of pocket dollars. It was a decent experience overall- but I would certainly shop for a less expensive option, and one that will bill your insurance first. read more

As far as the dreaded MRI experience goes, (especially if you're claustrophobic like me) mine was great! Friendly, personable staff from the receptionist to the reassuring technician, Stephen. Unlike a previous poster, I was able to keep underpants and socks on, plus was given shorts and gown. Got into the room ahead of schedule and when I saw the machine, I gave a big sigh of relief. They have one of the newer models that has a wider berth so I didn't feel very confined at all. My head was just inside the entrance of the tube so I could look out. (I was having my hip scanned.) I would highly recommend Boulder MRI! Oh, and valium. read more

Really nice people, easy fast paperwork, couldn't be better! In today's world of medical paperwork complexity, as well as the seemingly dour attitude of many medical professionals- Boulder MRI was a refreshing change. CONSUMER ALERT: I went to Boulder MRI in 2013 to get an MRI on each hip. Since I had a high deductible, I worked with Boulder MRI to set up a payment plan which was agreed upon by both parties. I have made every single payment on time and never missed a payment. I found out yesterday they turned me over to collections, WITHOUT WARNING. The billing office is giving me the run around. Recovering from my second periacetabular osteotomy surgery, this is really the last thing I need. I want to know why they would violate a verbal (and legally binding) agreement. So, my suggestion is: go somewhere else for an MRI, they are not the only game in town. read more

My experience was SO different from what is described in the only other review. True, the tables where you fill out the forms are at the front door, but I did not feel cold sitting there. The forms took less than 10 minutes to complete. The receptionist was very pleasant and very professional. I took a seat in the waiting area in the hallway. I did not feel any cold drafts when others came in or went out the outside door, which really isn't that close to the seating. Prior to the time of my appointment the receptionist came over to tell me they were running late - at that point I had the option to leave but decided to wait. Knowing how frequently radiology and other labs end up with emergencies and have to take unexpected patients I came prepared with a book so I did not mind waiting a little longer. For my trouble I was given a $5 Starbucks gift card, which I did appreciate. My experience with the MRI itself was excellent. The technicians were very welcoming and helpful. The MRI was not a pleasant experience - in fact it was very painful. This was by no means because of anything negative about the place or the staff, just that for the body part I was having scanned you have to lie in a very uncomfortable position and ultimately muscles in my arm, neck and back will spasm and cramp. The technicians did everything needed to make me as comfortable as possible and gave me some much needed verbal encouragement in the last five minutes. Their cheerful and helpful attitude was great. This was my first experience at this Center and I feel they did a very good job. read more

Yikes. I received a prescription for Boulder MRI from my doctor this week. I called to make an appt, and the woman was initially pleasant enough. She called back after talking to my insurance company, and said that since I hadn't paid anything towards my deductible, I'd need to pay $840.00 for the MRI when I came in for my appointment. I let her know that I'd be shopping around, and asked her to cancel my appointment until I had a chance to do some research. To my surprise, her tone completely changed. She told me that Boulder MRI is the ONLY provider in the state (I checked and double checked with her on this point) that offers the 3 Tesla (magnet strength) MRI, and that if I went anywhere else, my doctor would need to authorize a contrast MRI (as opposed to the prescribed non-contrast), since everyone else has a weaker magnet. And if I got a contrast MRI, it would be way more expensive than the $840. To anyone reading this...remember that you have a choice of providers. Do your research. There are SEVERAL providers in the Denver area who have a 3 Tesla magnet, including Touchstone Wheat Ridge, which charges $450.00 for the scan, and they send you out the door with a CD to bring to your doctor. Forget about the $400 price difference for a minute...the fact that Boulder MRI, a medical provider, is willing to blatantly lie to me in order to get my business is very concerning. It's my body, and my health, and if you're willing to lie to me to get me in the door, how can I trust the information you give me? read more
