I could see our kids building confidence, even as beginners to these martial arts. I know "jiu jitsu" and "kickboxing" might be intimidating terms, but we found Easton is a place people come to improve themselves and experience community. People there are friendly and welcoming but still serious about getting better, they take their training seriously but it's a relaxed vibe. The instructors are wonderful, very professional yet personable. High level techniques being shared here. With soo much experience on the mats you have lots of different Jiu-Jitsu styles to choose from. The amenities are exceptional. Nice clean bathrooms, changing rooms and showers. The front desk people are always smiling and helpful when you come in the door. While I haven't gotten to train the striking classes as I primarily train Jiu-Jitsu , they look like a lot of fun and they are training very hard with solid technique. They have lots of quality mat spaces for grappling and striking as well as workout equipment. There are many classes for people to choose from. Giving the most flexibility I have ever seen at a gym. Add in the elevation and the location of a beautiful mountain city, this is one of the best places to train in the country. I highly recommend the gym.

Honestly, we'd go every day if we could. They both have a very positive influence in my son's life. Not only am I more fit now at age 40 then I was at age 30. It is fun, it is challenging and rewarding mentally, emotionally and physically. I started when I was in a pretty bad physical condition and with the support to Master Tran, his crew and all the other members I have become fit. For the first time in my life did I find a regular work out that keeps my attention and that is FUN! Time flies by. The constant encouragement during class from instructors and persons I team up with makes me feel great. I get a super work out, and I leave feeling less stressed and calm. I'm clearly a better mom and wife after I work out at Trans. I am the type who loves skiing, tennis and other similar activities that keeps my mind engaged - the Muay Thai kickboxing is wonderful. It's almost meditative. I first started when I was studying for the bar exam, and this was the only time during the week that my mind was not stressing or thinking about legal problems. I often get bored going to regular gyms, or feel frustrated because I can't do certain work out or dance moves. This is the first time in many many years that I found a sport so fun, engaging, supportive and challenging that I kept to a schedule of working out 2-3 times a week! And I always felt respected for whatever level I'm at. People who are super fit as well as people who haven't worked out in years are equally welcomed. I'm from Sweden and we always go by first name, so in the beginning it was a bit unusual for me to get used to the "mam" or "sir" or to bow. But I got used to it quickly and it's really a matter of showing respect. There isn't a lot of formalities otherwise. It's a wonderful fitness and martial arts studio. Come and try it!

I found that the other schools were very focused on profit (aka... buy our unique clothes/shoes which are very high compared to what you find online and lots of pressure to sign a one year contract), didn't have a safe/decent training facility, or weren't really Kung Fu schools. The Sifu at this school charges month-to-month and charges significantly less than other programs. Don't believe me? Check the numbers here and other places. He is also interested in teaching the art and philosophies of Kung Fu. Not teaching you how to beat people up. I actually had a school tell me I would be able to pummel people in a couple months. This isn't what Kung Fu is about. I studied here for a year before being relocated to another state and I have to say it is one of the things I miss most about Colorado.

I have moved through many physical challenges, joint issues, and etc through my 8 years of kung fu, qigong and tai chi training. I highly recommend Sifu Wang as a teacher. He is compassionate, knows how to meet his students where they are at, and is a great guide and motivator, seeming to know exactly where your limitations are and how to help you understand your own body, when to push and when to rest. As a side benefit, I am comfortable in a bikini. I am grateful to have an unexpected extended family of brothers and sisters who come from different backgrounds, cultures and experiences and yet we all are in this life and practice together. I am a calmer, more balanced and centered person and I attribute much of this to my martial arts practice at Boulder Kung Fu.

I've been training in aikido at both Boulder Aikikai and its affiliated CU aikido class for over 10…read moreyears, and feel lucky to have access to such fantastic instructors and training partners. For those who might not be familiar with aikido, it's a Japanese martial art that focuses on joint locks and throws with the goal of resolving physical conflicts with a minimum of injury to both parties. Aikido classes generally tend to focus on open hand techniques, but can also encompass weapons like knives, swords, and staffs. Unlike many other martial arts, it is non-competitive and has an emphasis on paired practice, so you end up working with a wide range of people at different experience levels, backgrounds (many people have trained previously in other schools of martial arts), and styles, all of which makes it consistently fun and engaging to train. Both of the head instructors--Hiroshi Ikeda sensei and Tres Hofmeister sensei--are 7th degree black belts with many decades of experience who have become known worldwide for their expertise, even outside of the aikido community (the only downside of this is that they tend to travel on a recurring basis). In fact, students have even been known to move to Boulder specifically in order to train with them. Unsurprisingly, the dojo has attracted a large number of advanced (black belt-ranked) students, and it's not uncommon to train with people who have been practicing aikido for 20-30 years or more. Despite the wealth of experience and knowledge on hand, one of the things I really like about the dojo is that most people aren't especially focused on rank, and we all get to train with each other regardless of experience or skill level (which can be especially great for newer students). There's a nice sense of community, and people are generally supportive and encouraging while also challenging you to push yourself in different ways. I can't speak to the child and youth classes, but I expect the more peaceful nature and fun training style of aikido could be great for kids, and all the instructors I've worked with to date have been fantastic. So, in summary, if you're looking for a different martial art that's fun, has fantastic instructors, and an array of experienced students to practice with, I'd highly recommend checking out Boulder Aikikai. If you're on the fence or want to see it in person, you can always come watch a class--there's a large balcony overlooking the mat where you can sit on couches and easily see everything that's happening.
