As I have continued with my Kung Fu practice at Shaolin Hung Mei, I have noticed myself having more resolve to make solid decisions in my business and personal life in parallel with my progress in my Kung Fu practice and for that I am deeply grateful to the school. SHMKF is a place for people who are ready to challenge themselves in all aspects of their life and to keep growing as a person.

As a parent, I value the discipline and adherence to tradition. As a woman and mother who is not very tall or big, I am learning how to leverage my body mechanics and size in my practice, and I feel more confidence and security for myself and my teen daughter. I am also very impressed by the dedication of my instructors and classmates who have commited to learning an art that is both physically and mentally challenging.

The atmosphere is bad, but takes a while to see why. * Sin The is their grandmaster. look him up because he is a fake grandmaster. trust me, you will not learn real Shao-lin kung fu because Sin The made a lot of what he taught up so he could copy write it. But lied to his students so they would all buy onto it. * they are a belt factory. the problem is they don't train enough in the fundamentals nor conditioning which leads to injuries. they constantly pressure you to test and it is for the money, not the students benefit. they teach the forms so fast that you never have the time to really learn them. * they teach weapon forms, but not the fundamentals of each weapon. this means that you are handling the weapon wrong and you don't get a feel for it because they don't teach it to you nor give you the time to even try to get there. I am not to sure they know themselves. * they talk bad about existing and past students. * they talk bad about other martial art schools to just keep saying how great they are. * this one is too hard to explain, but they are one of those cult like martial art schools. * sometimes in the middle of class, instead of continuing to teach, they will push their political points of view on you. * they don't always like answering questions you might have about what they are teaching. * they setup an atmosphere where i had seen students turn on one another...on more then one occasion. i have even heard them tell lies about their students to other students...all as subtly as possible. In their own subtle ways they are controlling. you can never truly enjoy your achievements nor your time there. avoid this place and find a healthier atmosphere.

People there are friendly and welcoming but still serious about getting better, they take their training seriously but it's a relaxed vibe. The instructors are wonderful, very professional yet personable. High level techniques being shared here. With soo much experience on the mats you have lots of different Jiu-Jitsu styles to choose from. The amenities are exceptional. Nice clean bathrooms, changing rooms and showers. The front desk people are always smiling and helpful when you come in the door. While I haven't gotten to train the striking classes as I primarily train Jiu-Jitsu , they look like a lot of fun and they are training very hard with solid technique. They have lots of quality mat spaces for grappling and striking as well as workout equipment. There are many classes for people to choose from. Giving the most flexibility I have ever seen at a gym. Add in the elevation and the location of a beautiful mountain city, this is one of the best places to train in the country. I highly recommend the gym.
